Have some cash you’d like to invest in a company that aligns with your plant-based values? All of a sudden there are lots of publicly traded businesses that tap into the growing sector. But picking and choosing individual stocks can be risky, not to mention intimidating if you’re not an experienced investor. Meet today’s guests, financial advisors Anup Ruperalia and Justin Manning, the guys behind a Change.org petition called “Vegan Investing Platform in Canada.” With your help, and digital signatures, they want to show portfolio management companies there’s more than enough interest to justify creating a diverse, balanced portfolio of plant-based stocks. Hmmm. A professionally vetted collection of companies that are trying to eliminate and replace animal products. Sounds good to us.

With the TVA Annual General Meeting coming up and the recent call for committee members we thought the timing was right to learn about how the TVA works behind the scenes.  Elliot and Peter, two of our current board members join us to chat about what goes on behind the scenes.

This year’s Veg Food Fest will look a little bit different.  Because of COVID-19 restrictions, it’ll be staged as a pop-up event at the Steam Whistle Brewery rather than its usual home, the sprawling Harbourfront complex. There will be 30 vendors instead of the usual 150+. Instead of three days, it’s just one – Saturday.

Cookies, chips, and crackers, oh my! There are many mainstream products in grocery stores that are “accidentally vegan.” Everything from puff pasty to pancake mix. The term refers to items that are not necessarily marketed to vegans, and are not produced specifically to be vegan, but they just happen to not have any animal derived ingredients.

Connie Oliveira is the creator of the food blog The Portuguese Vegan, which you can find on Instagram and Facebook. She joins fellow Portuguese Vegans Ana and Jeanette on this episode of Veg Out to talk about her journey to create a cookbook that honours her mother’s heritage by preserving family recipes, and veganizing them.

Taimoor Choudhry is a fashionable guy. In fact, he used to be the General Manager and Creative Director of a jewellery line called Damas. He also used to wear fur. No more! A few years ago, Choudhry had an epiphany when he started to see that fur trim on his parka as more than just a piece of raw material. It had, of course, been a living, breathing, feeling being no different than his own beloved pooch. Now Choudhry is doing everything he can to help others see fur for what it is, including making Real Fur, a documentary about his journey from oblivious to educated, from fur fan to animal-rights activist.
