Seeing Red: God’s Wrath On The Cross

People see red in their life and struggle with low-boil anger, acting out anger, and raging anger because they have not learned to SEE RED in the cross. Only when we enter into the depths of Christ’s sacrifice for us do we find true soul peace, rest, forgiveness in our heart; and patience, understanding, and forgiveness for others.This Sunday, we will take a close up look at the sufferings of Jesus on the cross. We’ll discover that the greatest sufferings of the cross were not physical, but spiritual as Jesus became sin (2 Corinthians 5:21) and faced the terrible, holy, and righteous wrath of God. To do so, he arranged a very unique set of events in Balaam’s life. Instead of softening his heart to God, Balaam became angry. He lashed out when things didn’t go his way. The more God spoke, the more angry Balaam became. Anger in our lives can sometimes be the result of our refusal to surrender to what God is revealing. There came a moment when Balaam finally humbled himself. In that moment he saw Jesus in his situation. He saw Him in power, wisdom, and glory. My prayer for our time together is for us all to see the glory of Jesus even in the places of our greatest frustration. God has much to show us as we learn how to surrender our will and be free from destructive anger!  This week, we take a look at a story from Moses’ life in which his anger cost him greatly. Instead of seeing the glory of God, the people saw the glory of Moses in his anger. What happened there cost Moses and the people deeply. God longs for us to see His glory. He is arranging our lives to bring us to the end of ourselves so that we can experience Him. In those moments, we will be tempted to anger instead of surrender. This story is about a young man that Vertical Church helped three years ago through the 360 Recovery Ministry. This young man was homeless and addicted to heroine. God used members of Vertical to help this young man experience healing, redemption, and restoration.The Storm Chaser story will be told by his mother. Few things break a mother’s heart in a greater way than to watch her child hurt. This mother watched helplessly as her son spiraled out of control.
