Vibrations Seris

This mix reminds me of the rain. The feeling of being humble inside with heavy clouds, rain and thunder outside is what it's inspired from.

This mix was inspired by various structures I've seen during my travels around the world.

I like to call this mix ‘Speed to Saturn’ - a sci-fi vision of what music will be playing as you travel in a Hyper Speed portal to a rave on Saturn, to escape a desolate and dystopian Planet Earth. The mix is a representation of what my friends and I have been experiencing and dancing to during the pandemic in Scotland. Currently our city of Glasgow has been in a depressing 9 months of lockdown, the longest in the UK - which we have been escaping through means of listening to futuristic Hard Trance and Hard Techno. We all live near the bridge in the picture - which on certain weekend nights looks like another planet, glimmering in the distance.

This mix transport you in a dreamy, breakbeat, ambient, electro balanced atmosphere. The tracks have been put together after a long car ride. I felt inspired and ready for a little timeless adventure.

With this mix, I’d like to present the listener with something that reflects a combination of both past and future tense. The journey is presented through an array of tracks that have given me inspiration over the years, accompanied by some fresh sonics of my own. Through pairing these 2 concepts, I offer something of a symbiont nature. At a genre-focused level, the mix explores a landscape of 140, Techno, Footwork, and Halftime, weirdly intertwined to keep the listener on their toes.

I compiled the tracks for this mix while thinking of a great scandinavian summer evening I had with good friends in Copenhagen last July.

It was a real pleasure putting this mix together. It encompasses all the different abstract vibes and sounds across dance music, that have been inspiring and informing the music we have been making over the last year.

I built this mix as if we were climbing a mountain, starting the climb from a lower BPM with more hypnotic, straight and focused beats, slowly speeding up the BPM near the top. The second hour we starting the descent built up with faster and schizophrenic mixes and uplifting melodies like an adrenal race towards the foot of the mountain.

For this mix I wanted to do the complete opposite of how I DJ in a club. Normally I play three or four tracks at once, layering sounds and loops with them and cutting between them very quickly and aggressively. Here I am letting the tracks almost play out in full and taking a calmer, more relaxed approach. The tracks themselves range from music from Stephen Mallinder's debut solo LP Pow Wow from back in 1982 to upfront promos I've received in the last few days, there is some deeper techno but it is mainly melodic and atmospheric tracks.

This mix springs from a worried yet hopeful place in my mind reflecting on the past and whats to come in this new way of living we're all adjusting to, for the worse but definitely also for the better. It reflects the change and adjustment life is constantly demanding both naturally but also when forced upon you to make decisions and move on. It took me to both darker and happier places while creating it.
