  • Fighting Bezos in Bessemer

In the final week of the most-watched union drive in recent history, we take you to an Amazon warehouse in Bessemer, Alabama. Workers here will vote this week on whether to form Amazon’s first-ever union in the US, which could deal a blow to one of the world’s richest men and challenge the future of work as we know it. We meet with one of the workers leading that fight.

UPDATE: After this episode was published, Amazon responded to several of our questions and requests for comment. In part they told us that the company ensures every associate has easy access to toilet facilities. In addition to expressing concerns in the online portal, Amazon says employees can also call Amazon Ethics hotline or contact their manager or any member of the HR team. They also told us "it’s our business objective to ensure long-term career development opportunities for our employees."

This episode was reported by Lauren Kaori Gurley and Julia Nutter.

  • Healing A Wildlife Paradise

Brazil’s Pantanal is the world’s largest tropical wetland, home to an impressive concentration of wildlife like hyacinth macaws, giant otters, piranhas and jaguars. And last year, the wetland was on fire. Our host Arielle Duhaime-Ross travels to the vast region to see first hand how last year’s megafires changed this unique ecosystem and to meet the scientists who have had to take drastic measures to help it heal. Along the way she meets some of the Pantanal’s rare (and adorable) wildlife.

Watch a video report from Arielle’s journey here. And read more about last year’s megafires here.

  • Waiting on Biden in Juarez

For nearly two years since the Trump administration enacted the “Remain in Mexico” policy, tens of thousands have been sent back to wait. Most asylum seekers have been in a holding pattern akin to immigration purgatory. We spent time with migrants in Ciudad Juarez just as things have started to change.

  • Conspiracy, USA

A QAnon promoting mayor. Armed vigilantes looking to scare off antifa. And a heated fight over... an opioid treatment center? Reporter Jen Kinney takes us to one small town in Washington State, where the paranoid style of American politics is turning even the most everyday, local issues into conspiracy theories.

  • Hostile Territory: How The Army Got Trolled on Twitch

The U.S. Army needs recruits, and they're looking to Twitch to find them. With the Army’s new e-sports team, they hope to attract young, tech-savvy enlistees by streaming video games online. But they haven’t found a fully receptive audience. And this isn’t the first time the military has slid into our gaming consoles. VICE News Correspondent Dexter Thomas Jr. digs back in military gaming history to explain how we got here.

  • Mexico's Forever War Against Drug Cartels

VICE News Senior Reporter Keegan Hamilton travels to Michoacán where Mexico’s modern drug war began and continues to rage. To understand the effects of a seemingly endless cycle of crackdown, cartel re-alignment and civilians being displaced, Keegan tells the story of the right now in this region with unprecedented access to various sides of the war -- including the dominant Jalisco New Generation Cartel led by the DEA’s Most Wanted cartel boss El Mencho. • ‘I Was Prepared to be Arrested’: Jan. 6, 2021 - Hong Kong

UPDATE: On February 28th, 2021, the young politician we profiled in this episode, Fergus Leung, and 46 other pro-Democracy activists and lawmakers were charged with “conspiracy to commit subversion,” a violation of Hong Kong’s new National Security Law. As of this update (March 3, 2021) they are all still incarcerated awaiting trial. If convicted, Leung faces a multiple-year prison sentence.

In a pre-dawn raid on January 6th, hundreds of Hong Kong police fanned out across the city in a coordinated operation to arrest dozens of pro-democracy activists and lawmakers in a single sweep. It was the biggest crackdown on the city’s democracy movement and the latest Chinese government effort to curb dissent.

We go to Hong Kong to spend time with one of the people rounded up -- a 23-year old local politician -- and hear from VICE correspondent Laurel Chor about what led up to that day. Is this the end of Hong Kong’s nascent democracy?
