  • #307 I The House I Live In (Black Lives Matter, Chapter Six)
In our episode on the documentary, 13th (https://bit.ly/vicep302), we focused on our current crisis of mass incarceration in our country. Where does an idea like that come from though? In the documentary, The House I Live In (which you can stream for free right now: https://bit.ly/307movie), we are taken on the continuing 30+ year war on drugs. Learn how this epidemic has been in place long before the war was even spoken. In this episode, we're discussing our own experiences with addiction, the economic insanity that thrives off prisons, racial stereotyping and more.

Victims and Villains is written Josh "Captain Nostalgia" Burkey (and produced by), Caless Davis, Dan Rockwood, & Brandon Miller . Music by Mallory Jameson (https://bit.ly/expandmal). • #306 I L.A. 92 (Black Lives Matter, Chapter Five)
LA 92 is one of the toughest documentaries ever put to film. However, it serves as a great educational piece on the cumulative effects of racism and police brutality in America. While the LA Riots of 1992, definitely mirror certain parts of our own story now, it’s a reflection of the 1965 Watts Riots on a larger scale. Captain Nostalgia and Caless Davis (aka BlackNerdMagic) are sitting down with New York metal band, Prdgms (https://bit.ly/306guest), to discuss the strong sometimes tragic topics that this film brings up and if anything has changed since the Rodney King beating and what were the factors that led to the biggest civil disturbance in American history Plus as an added bonus we’re sitting down with someone who lived through the riots (in 92) to tell us how life was like on ground level.

Victims and Villains is written Josh "Captain Nostalgia" Burkey (and produced by), Caless Davis, Dan Rockwood, Micah Kimber & Brandon Miller . Music by Mallory Jameson (https://bit.ly/expandmal). • #305 I Straight Outta Compton (Black Lives Matter, Chapter Four)
Police brutalities, racism and raical injustice are common conversation for us today. Back in the 1980s, it was revolutionary for five young gents out of Compton, California who experienced this one a daily basis. Dr. Dre, Easy E, Ice Cube, MC Ren & DJ Yella were known to the world as N.W.A. Their debut album, Straight Outta Compton, placed racial injustice and police brutality right in the front conversation. As they say in the movie, “our art is a reflection of our reality.” The band who redefined the rap back back in the late 80s, is back to their story on the big screen. In this episode of Victims and Villains, we are breaking down the 2015 biopic, Straight Outta Compton. Discussing everything from hip hop being art, racial profiling, police brutality and more. Chrissy Torres, editor of Dummie Comics, joins us for this important episode.

  • #304 I Malcolm X (Black Lives Matter, Chapter Three)
History has a tendency to repeat itself. What we’re currently experiencing now with civil unrest in the Black Lives Matter movement echoes throughout history. For Generation X, and to a lesser extent the Baby Boomer generation, there was a revolution taking place before their very eyes. Men like Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., James Baldwin and Malcolm X were pioneers for civil rights for the black community. The latter, in Malcolm X, had his life grace the big screen in 1992 – thanks to director, Spike Lee, and a transformative performance from Denzel Washington. In this episode of Victims and Villains, we are sitting down with Emmanuel Noisette, of E-Man’s Movie Reviews (https://bit.ly/304guest), to discuss colorism, history, the nation of Islam and much more! • #303 I I Am Not Your Negro (Black Lives Matter, Chapter Two)
An underappreciated artist that stood in the middle of the civil rights conversation of the 1960s. An author, essayist, an absolute wonder & more - James Baldwin. The man behind works like If Beale Street Could Talk, The Fire Next Time, Notes of a Native Son & more was working on a manuscript that never quite found closure. That manuscript finds new life in the documentary, I Am Not Your Negro. Brought to life by Samuel L. Jackson, Baldwin attempts to write through the eyes of fellow friends and civil rights activists Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. & Medgar Evers. In this episode of Victims and Villains, Capt. Nostalgia & BlackNerdMagic are joined by Gary Scott, the host of the Say Eff It Podcast (https://sayeffit.com/), to discuss Baldwin's views on humanity, race, religion and more.

  • #300 | The Room (2003)
In our previous episode, we discussed the enormous influence of Citizen Kane (http://bit.ly/Vicep299). The Orson Welles picture has gone on to be known as “The Greatest Movie of All Time.” If you have good, sure you must have bad. Dubbed “The Citizen Kane of Bad Movies’’, Tommy Wiseau’s The Room has enjoyed a cult following over the years. It's ridiculous plot, terrible writing, acting and editing have made this a crowd favorite for the last 15 years and counting. In this episode of Victims and Villains, we’re breaking down every crazy theory, ludacris film trivia, & every reason why it’s completely worthy of its reputation.
