Felipe Nasr and Connor De Phillippi go at → De Phillippi gets into the back of the #7 Porsche (just a little love tap!) Chaos at the hairpin → #6 Porsche Penske gets spun after contact from a Lambo GTD (Lambo was later penalized for the contact, maybe not necessary), this leads to everyone checking up and causing an extremely silly traffic jam situation #25 gets more damage from the incident → front end damage and rear damage, gets repaired but then ends up in the tire barriers later, officially taking the car out of contention # 01 Cadillac brake checks the #31 01 Cadillac wins in GTP (the strategy of taking no tires worked out for them) #89 Vasser Sullivan wins in GTD IndyCar Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach Pre-Race stuff F2 Champion Theo Pourchaire fills in for David Malukas at Arrow McLaren → Recovery for Malukas taking longer than expected as there are still pins in his arm Qualifying Arrow McLaren disaster class unfortunately → none made it to the final round of qualifying Felix Rosenqvist on pole Race Good race or no? April 18, 2024Chicanery #23 - Smörgåsbord of Sports Car ShenanigansIntroduction Quick points on GT races @ Sonoma Raceway GT races at Sonoma seem to go well despite prior issues with the circuit being repaved and testing/practice sessions being canceled due to the circuit needing to be fixed Westin Workman scores podium in TGR Cup Samantha Tan and Neil Verhagan get P2 in GT Challenge America GT World Challenge Europe @ Circuit Paul Ricard Good race or no? → Good race in my opinion Notable moments from the race Mustang GT3 has rear bodywork issues again Aston Martin catches fire #32 BMW DNF after collision with Ferrari and getting a puncture, puncture caused the bodywork to get shredded up (Charles Weerts at the scene of the crime AGAIN) #98 BMW bungles strategy → Did not get enough fuel in the car the first time around and ended up having to pit again Nürburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS) Interesting faces participating in this series this weekend Glickenhaus Kamui Kobayashi Jimmy Broadbent and Steve Brown (won in their class in Race 2) Race 1 Falken Motorsports clutches the overall win Race 2 ABT Motorsports played themselves and fumbled the win in race 2 → Pepper was told to let the clock run out because they were not going to make it on fuel, however he ended up slowing down too much and which resulted in Vanthoor from Manthey snatching the win Other Sports Car News Drama at the Nurburgring Explanation of the drama → Owners of the Nurburgring wanted to run their own series as opposed to NLS running it (caused a split between the two, similar to the CART IRL split) NES (Nurburgring Endurance series) vs NLS NES double header season opener races canceled (week of 3/19) Drama in GTD IMSA (3/25/24) AWA withdraws the #17 Corvette (in a rage quit kind of fashion) Initially started as an IG post (with a lot of attitude) then later announced on Twitter that they were withdrawing the car Continuing the season with one car Statement from AWA on Twitter → “Anthony Mantella has elected to step away from the GTD program at this moment in time. The #13 car will continue to proceed as planned and will be present at the upcoming round in Long Beach.” The Dacia Logan returns to the Nurburgring 24H this year Sebastian Vettel Tests Porsche Penske 963 Will we see him in the 963 at a race soon? → No plans from Porsche to draft him for the 2024 LeMans entry list Qatar 1812 km Post Hoc penalties 02 Cadillac gets DQ’d due to modification of a homologated part (the rough year for GM continues) Vista AF Corse Ferrari (54 Ferrari LMGT3) fined €60,000 ($64,800 USD) for sneaking extra engineers on the grid (team tried to disguise them as sales/marketing staff and claimed they didn’t touch the car) As a result Toyota and BMWgot points (BMW are DQ/Penalty merchants) WEC requiring a minimum of 2 entries for the Hypercar class starting next season Good decision or not? (FIA/ACO shooting themselves in the foot imo and creating a solution to a problem that does not exist) Rule that forbids Hypercar manufacturers from running more than two factory cars is still in place (LeMans is the only race exempt from that rule) Would spell trouble for customer and privateer teams like Isotta Fraschini Hosted on Acast. Free Practice Logan dipped a wheel onto the grass at the Dunlop Curve and binned the car Remember: still no spare chassis Super Formula driver (and F2 race winner) Ayumu Iwasa made his F1 debut in FP1 Would end up P15 in the session, behind Stroll and Bottas FP2 would largely be washout → only 13 timed laps in the session Qualifying Alpine quali’d P15, P17; OCO, GAS RUS was investigated for a pitlane incident involving PIA → NFA TSU would make Q3 again → knocking out RIC this time TSU P10, RIC P11 Merc’s pace faded as the track heated up P3-P4 RUS, HAM in FP3 would end up P7-P9 HAM, RUS in Q3 Red Bull front-row lockout → PER only 0.07 behind VER Race Day After rain and subsequently cool track temps, race day brought track temps much hotter than expected L1 T3 crash involving ALB and RIC → Lengthy red flag period to repair the barriers RIC appeared to just move up the circuit and into ALB STILL NO SPARE WILLIAMS CHASSIS The start was re-racked and VER sailed off into the distance Mercedes would attempt a one-stop after the restart and run long on hards It didn’t work at all with both cars making an additional stops for hards and then mediums ZHO would retire on L13 with an unspecified issue STR and ALO would pit on L14 to swap softs for mediums It’s here where STR would be investigated for unsafe release into a Haas With 10 to go, SAR locked up into Degner 2 and brought out local yellows RUS would launch a late-race attack on PIA and nab P7 PIA felt like he’d been forced off at the chicane Red Bull 1-2 → VER-PER Sainz would round out the podium TSU would nab the final point Hosted on Acast. April 03, 2024Chicanery #21 - Clangers and BangersPre-Race Free Practice Albon has a massive accident in FP1 at Turn 6 → same place he wiped out in 2023 It becomes known that Williams doesn’t have a spare chassis Logan gets to sit out out of the race Albon admitted after the decision that the atmosphere within the team wasn’t good Qualifying Perez received a grid drop for impeding Hulk during Q1 → OTR P3, lined up P6 Tsunoda knocked Lewis out of Q3 → TSU lined up P10, HAM P11 RIC out in Q1 → is McLaren-era Danny Ric back? Race Day Verstappen out on Lap 3 due to a sticking right-rear caliper VER had complaining about the car being loose all race, up to that point Last Verstappen DNF was Australia ‘22 VER’s DNF triggered a rash of early pits All the soft tire starters took hards, BOT’s pit woes continue Lewis DNF on Lap 16, to a PU failure brought by an oiling issue This brings out a VSC → Alonso basically getting a free pit stop Last lap shenanigans from Alonso → copped a +20s penalty for “potentially dangerous driving” Based on telemetry data from previous laps, Alonso was going significantly slower Combination of overspeed and dirty air caused RUS to have a colossal accident Ferrari 1-2! Carlos P1 - Charles P2 → Lando rounds out the podium Haas double points! → HUL P9, MAG P10 Albon P11 → causing a lot of folks to ask what was the point of the chassis swap Albon: “We need these races when you have three [cars] of the top teams retiring. You've got to capitalise on that and unfortunately, we didn't” Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information....more1h 18minPlay
