Rafael Carrasquillo, a piano tuner based in the NYC Metro Area, originally from Guaynabo, Puerto Rico is a musician and music professor who now is dedicated to healing pianos. He talked about technicalities of tuning and adjusting pianos. We talked about Puerto Rico and statehood and living stateside. The idea of piercing the skin with permanent ink to create a tattoo, has always been fascinating to me. In this episode I had the opportunity to meet with Oscar Arias, a tattoo artist from Matawan, NJ. As a non- tattooed person, I had many questions about the time they take to make, how they're done, what trends are in.. and more.

Manny Ramirez, owner of Dichter Phamacy in Inwood has created a space for his community where patrons can buy their medication, but neighbors also go hang out, drink a float, eat a bagel, learn a new language, listen to professional musicians, recite poetry as well as many other activities.

It was truly a pleasure to have a conversation with Manny about a lot of things including growing up as a Nuyorican in Inwood, about creating space for community, finding space to slow down, politics and much more.

The recovery of Puerto Rico is largely dependent on the volunteer efforts of individuals and community based groups from within the island as well from many of those of the diaspora who are taking it upon themselves to provide aid to the people in Puerto Rico in any way they can. In this episode we talk with Samantha, Paul and Martha about their trip to Puerto Rico and their mission to provide assistance in whatever way they can.

This episode is the second part of the audio blogs I recorded during the first weeks of the aftermath of Hurricane Maria thru Puerto Rico. I talk about the conditions of the island from my perspective in those days in San Juan, without running water or electricity. I touch upon the idea of leaving the island for some time, I cry and sing and even sing while crying, which is why the napita musical ends on a note out of tune... but it's a slice of real life.

In the intro I share a brief summary from my perspective, of the most furious storm to rip through our island, Puerto Rico. Hurricane Maria impacted Puerto Rico on 9/20/17 and has changed the lives of many people. I had the opportunity to have a brief telephone conversation Vicente Toledo, a journalist, writer and friend, who shared with me some details about the current situation in Puerto Rico. He talked about the traffic congestion in San Juan, the deregulation of the cost of food and water, and the devastation of the coffee crop, among other things... pero para Navidades hay lechon!

English. Days after Hurricane Irma passed some 60 miles north of San Juan, PR.. there are still many people without electricity, including my little brother, Leo. Luckily, I got my light back first so he was staying over and we had the chance to finally record one of our many conversations. We talked about the aftermath of Hurricane Irma, about rebuilding, politics and policies; about liberals, conservatives and libertarians.. a little philosophy and a hodge podge of many things. It was recorded a few days before learning that another hurricane, Hurricane Maria was due to pass closer or through Puerto Rico.
