Viewpoint: Is Singapore ready for ERP 2's new driving experience?

Listen Later

Singapore is preparing for the rollout of ERP 2 from January 1, 2027, introducing a satellite-based road pricing system that replaces the current gantry-based ERP network.

The Land Transport Authority says ERP 2 will provide greater flexibility in managing traffic by allowing new charging points to be introduced without the need for costly physical gantries.

So what will the new system mean for motorists and how will features such as ERP alerts and roadside electronic parking payments work in practice?

On Viewpoint, Lynlee Foo speaks to Lee Nian Tjoe, Senior Transport Correspondent at The Straits Times, about the ERP 2 trial, its new features, and what drivers can expect when the satellite-based system is fully rolled out.
