With experts predicting that it could take up to 30 years to get South Africa's NHI fully functional, millions of South Africans will be left without access to adequate healthcare in the meantime. Could the inclusion of complementary and traditional options into primary healthcare bring us closer to universal healthcare? Many of our BRICS counterparts have already done this. India for example has achieved a doctor to patient ration of 1:819 (the WHO benchmark for universal healthcare is 1: 1000) by incorporating homeopathy and other indigenous medicine practices into its healthcare system. By comparison, the doctor to patient ratio in SA currently stands at 1: 3192. There is also growing evidence that incorporating homeopathic care into primary and rural healthcare is having an impact here at home. Sections of Century City, Silversands, the City Bowl, Bellville, Kenilworth, Rondebosch, Claremont, Steenbras Water Treatment, Khayelitsha, Bizweni, and Tokai will be affected. The City’s Water and Sanitation Directorate will be doing planned work in the identified areas, which will result in water supply disruptions. The City sincerely regrets any inconvenience caused.This critical maintenance work is done on our water supply infrastructure to benefit customers.Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to take note of the work that will take place and prepare accordingly.

SAPS are investigating a horrible shooting incident that happened at a Khayelitsha barber shop on Saturday afternoon, According to reports an unknown gunman entered the barber shop and opened fire on the occupants of the premises. Two children aged 11 and 12 and an adult aged 30 were killed on the scene.Three other children were admitted to hospital. A 5-year-old later died of their injuries.The suspects fled the scene and are yet to be apprehended.The motive for the incident is yet to be determined.Abie Isaacs from the Cape Flats Safety Forum joins us on the line for more.
