Views From The Chixx

On this week's episode, the Chixx talk about the Surviving R. Kelly documentary and reveal their thoughts behind the testimonies and allegations against the famous R&B singer. We discuss how we felt once the infamous video tape was made public as well as the history behind the not-so-secret marriage to Aaliyah almost 25 years ago. This episode gets pretty heavy and if you haven't seen the 6 part docuseries on Lifetime Network yet, we advise that you watch with a open heart and mind. Also, don't forget to take a break if necessary...the series can be very triggering to anyone watching who may have been or is dealing with abuse of any kind.

Let us know your thoughts and as always, you can join in on the conversation on our social media platforms #viewspod

On this week’s episode the ladies take an in depth look at Blackground Records, the now defunct record label that was founded by Aaliyah’s uncle Barry Hankerson and launched the careers of artists such as Aaliyah, Timberland, Tank and JoJo. Despite their talented roster, the company went in a downward spiral after Aaliyah’s passing and a slew of lawsuits followed. The most famous lawsuit was with JoJo, which took her almost a decade to resolve before she could release music again.

We discuss the importance of artists owning their masters and how Barry Hankerson’s refusal to put Aaliyah’s music on any major streaming services may affect her legacy. Plus we debate the pros and cons of streaming music vs record sales.

Hey music lovers! On this week’s episode, we interviewed Philly based hip hop artist E-Hos. As a true creative at heart, he juggles many hats such as acting, producing and even playing the viola. However his love for music surpasses them all. He began writing at the fruitful age of 10 and over the years focused on perfecting his craft.

While in college E-Hos began recording music in his friend’s dorm room studio and later released his first feature via YouTube. Like wildfire the track quickly went viral which caught the attention of local radio stations. In the words of E-Hos, “Good music travels fast”.

During our conversation, we discussed his latest album Underestimated II. E-Hos describes this album as a personal journey of self-discovery. His clever storytelling skills will leave listeners hanging on to every word. On December 21st, the first day of winter solstice, E-Hos will be releasing his new album Subzero Season and from the looks of it, it’s definitely going to be a cold winter!

Hey music lovers! Have you been in a R&B funk?? Tired of the same old song and dance you hear on the radio?? If the answer is yes, then we are on the same page. This week we interviewed singer, songwriter, and producer Dante Hawkins from New York who is determined to make you fall in love with R&B all over again! During our conversation we discussed how he got his start in the game and how an unexpected encounter with DeVante Swing of Jodeci helped further ignite his passion for music.

Describing his sound as "life music", Dante pulls from personal experiences to inspire others one song at a time. We see that on his song "Journey" as he walks listeners through the hardships he experienced growing up in a broken home. Even though it was a long ride, he persevered and made his life his own. His willingness to be open and honest about his journey resonates with both women and men. Society often discourages men from tapping into their emotions and speaking on certain matters, but through his music Dante lends a voice to the fellas who often go unheard.

Dante has worked with a lot of heavy hitters in the music industry and does not plan on slowing down any time soon. His latest single “This is Real” evokes hip-hop, R&B and pop all in one record! Take a listen and find out why “life music” is the new wave.
