Harjeet Singh was born to a truck driver in Punjab. In 2004, he started playing hockey. For a few months, he took his initial training at the Gopal Hockey Academy in Kurali, Punjab. He thought of quitting the sport because of his family’s financial constraint. However, his stellar performances in the local league led him to sail through all the odds. Then, in 2008, Harjeet joined the Surjit Hockey Academy in Jalandhar, which is famous for producing quality Hockey players in the country; the testimony of the fact is that 10 out of the 18-member Indian Hockey Junior World Cup Squad (2016) were from this academy. He captained the Indian squad at the 2016 Men's Hockey Junior World Cup that went unbeaten throughout the tournament, eventually winning a Gold medal. In 2018, a biopic titled “Harjeeta” was made on the inspirational story of Harjeet Singh. In July 2019, he signed for Dutch club HGC in the Hoofdklasse where he played for one season.
