Restrictions on asylum requests that have prevented hundreds of thousands of migrants from entering the U.S. in recent years are set to expire next week, following an appeals court ruling. 

The D.C. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled Friday not to keep the Trump-era policy that restricts the number of asylum seekers the U.S. would allow under the COVID-19 pandemic, collectively known as Title 42. 

The rules will expire Wednesday unless a further appeal is filed.

Ronna Mcdaniel could be removed as RNC chair. RedState.com reports:  

It looks like some committee members are joining in a grassroots effort to stop Ronna McDaniel from winning a fourth term as chairperson of the Republican National Committee, arguing her track record thus far has been disastrous. RedState previously reported that McDaniel had gained a worthy challenger in Harmeet Dhillon, who seems to be slowly peeling support away from McDaniel. 

The initial calls for McDaniel to hit the road came from Roger Villere of Louisiana and Solomon Yue of Oregon; Villere disclosed that McDaniel had promised committee members at a recent meeting that she would not be seeking reelection in 2023. Bafflingly, McDaniel decided after the midterm election, the results of which were hardly a resume builder for her, to go back on her word to the committee and run for an additional term. 

Since Villere and Yue first voiced their opposition to McDaniel’s candidacy, a steady stream of committee members and state committees have withdrawn their support for McDaniel. Some have transferred their support to Dhillon, while others seem to be taking a step back to see how things shake out.

A new policy in Canada would allow those with a mental illness to partake in “assisted suicide,” if multiple doctors were to sign off. Breitbart has the story:  

Canada legalized assisted suicide, which it prefers to call by the euphemism Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID), in 2016. Euthanasia was initially limited to patients over the age of 18 suffering from a terminal illness — but, as critics predicted, the standards have been relentlessly loosened with every passing year. 

Canada is now one of only seven countries that allows medical professionals to administer lethal drugs to patients, rather than providing suicide formulations and requiring the patient to inject themselves, and it is the only country that allows nurse practitioners to kill their patients. 

Last year, the requirement for MAID subjects to be suffering from terminal illness was lifted, and in early November, the Canadian Association of Medical Assistance in Dying Assessors and Providers rolled out a new training curriculum that advises doctors to aggressively offer euthanasia options, instead of waiting for patients to ask. 

Removing the requirement that natural death must be “reasonably foreseeable” for euthanasia subjects opened the door to letting mentally ill people kill themselves, and that very policy will go into effect on March 17, 2023.

The former billionaire, Sam Bankman-Fried, has been charged by the SEC for defrauding cryptocurrency investors. CBS News has more:  

The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission has charged the former CEO of failed cryptocurrency firm FTX with orchestrating a scheme to defraud investors. 

An SEC complaint filed Tuesday alleges that Sam Bankman-Fried raised more than $1.8 billion from equity investors since May 2019 by promoting FTX as a safe, responsible platform for trading crypto assets. 

The complaint says Bankman-Fried diverted customer funds to Alameda Research LLC, his privately held crypto fund, without telling them. The complaint also says Bankman-Fried commingled FTX customers' funds at Alameda to make undisclosed venture investments, lavish real estate purchases and large political donations. 

"FTX operated behind a veneer of legitimacy Mr. Bankman-Fried created by, among other things, touting its best-in-class controls, including a proprietary 'risk engine,' and FTX's adherence to specific investor protection principles and detailed terms of service," Gurbir S. Grewal, director of the SEC's Division of Enforcement, in a statement. "But as we allege in our complaint, that veneer wasn't just thin, it was fraudulent."

The Lockerbie plane bombing suspect is now in U.S. custody. Reuters has the story:  

LONDON/WASHINGTON, Dec 11 (Reuters) - A Libyan man accused of making the bomb that killed 270 people after it blew up Pan Am flight 103 over Lockerbie in Scotland in 1988 is in custody in the United States, Scottish and U.S. law enforcement officials said on Sunday. 

Abu Agila Mohammad Mas'ud Kheir Al-Marimi was taken into custody about two years after former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr first announced the United States filed charges against him. 

A Justice Department spokesperson confirmed to Reuters on Sunday that the United States has custody of the suspect. Mas'ud is expected to make his initial court appearance in a federal court in Washington.

Brittney Griner has been released from a Russian prison camp in exchange for a Russian arms dealer. NBC News reports:  

WNBA star Brittney Griner is free Thursday after the Biden administration negotiated her release from a Russian penal colony in exchange for an arms dealer, according to a senior administration official. 

President Joe Biden signed off on the trade, which took place in the United Arab Emirates, even though it meant leaving behind Paul Whelan, an American corporate security executive who remains jailed in Russia. 

"She is safe, she is on a plane, she is on her way home," Biden said in remarks from the White House on Thursday morning. "She will soon be back in the arms of her loved ones, and she should have been there all along."

Raphael Warnock defeats Herschel Walker in the Georgia Senate runoff. This gives Democrats a 51-49 majority in the Senate. FOX has more on the race:  

Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock defeated Republican challenger Herschel Walker in Georgia's high stakes Senate runoff election. 

While the Senate majority has already been decided, Warnock's victory in the last ballot box showdown of the 2022 midterm elections gives the Democrats a 51-49 margin in the chamber and a bit of breathing room in their razor-thin control of the Senate. 

"Thank you, Georgia. We did it again," Warnock tweeted soon after his victory was projected by the Associated Press on Tuesday evening. 

And in his victory speech, the senator noted that "after a hard-fought campaign, or should I say campaigns, it is my honor to utter the four most powerful words ever spoken in a democracy – the people have spoken."

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster wants to ban the app, Tik Tok, from all government devices due to security concerns. Cyber Security expert, Morgan Wright, joins the program. WLTX has more:  

South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster says he wants to block TikTok on state government devices and has taken the first step to do just that, just days after a warning came from the nation's chief law enforcement officer.  

McMaster made a request to the state's Department of Administration to block access to the popular social media platform on all government managed devices. 

“Protecting our State’s critical cyber infrastructure from foreign and domestic threats is key to ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our citizens and businesses,” Governor McMaster wrote in a letter. “Federal law enforcement and national security officials have warned that TikTok poses a clear and present danger to its users, and a growing bi-partisan coalition in Congress is pushing to ban access to TikTok in the United States.”
