D'Onofrio has stated multiple times that Swamp Thing is one of his favorite comic book characters, ranking him alongside Spider-Man and Batman.[1] While he has faced legal restrictions regarding his Marvel character in certain big-screen projects, he sees a potential DC role in the "sympathetic monster."
