According to Der. Ira Byock (an expert in ‘end of life’ care), people often go to their graves with regret that they failed to say what they needed to say to the people they care about. Specifically, they regret failing to say “I’m sorry,” “I forgive you,” “Thank you,” and “I love you.”

Justification is what God did for us. But sanctification is what God does with us, as we live in response to Him.

Justification isn’t misunderstood, as much as it is under-understood. We tend to teach it and believe it to a certain point, but after that it gets a bit overwhelming…. not because it’s complicated, or hard to understand, but because it just seems too good to be true.

A.W. Tozer wrote, “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” If that’s even partially true then it’s worth asking ourselves what we, in our heart of hearts, believe that God is like. Isaiah 42:1-4 can help us see him more clearly.

Maybe what we need most in the wake of a really difficult year is a grid to help us begin to process and respond to racially motivated events, crimes and comments in light of the gospel.
