Perseverance is about determination to keep going. You get knocked down and you get up again. Biblical perseverance means that when you get back up again, you get back at it. Even though you might get into trouble and get knocked down again. Even though it’s been difficult, and it looks like it might be difficult again in the future, you get out there and you do it anyway.

Ananias and Sapphira were bound. Tied to money, people’s opinions, and even the ways of the enemy; but Barnabas was free. And if you want to flourish as a Christian, you need freedom too. You need to be free from what the world has to offer, you need to be free from the opinions of others and you need to be free from the shackles that Satan will use to tie you up.

Do you believe God knows exactly what you need to flourish, even if what you need is not something you want, even if what you need might be painful for a time or life-threatening or seemingly unbearable? This week we talk about trust under fire. We need to learn to trust God to flourish.

All followers of Jesus who want to grow and flourish in their relationship with Jesus must embrace the idea that the only confidence they have that matters is the confidence they have in Jesus Christ.

It is hard for a plant to flourish if it’s left for too long in too small a pot. The roots encircle the plant, swirling around to create a densely snarled root ball that chokes the life out of the plant. Plants can’t flourish when they’re not free. Plants in a greenhouse don’t have to force themselves to flourish. They don’t have to try harder to become better plants. They have a gardener who makes sure they have everything they need to thrive, survive and flourish. In the early church we see the disciples of Jesus flourishing in the presence of the Holy Spirit.

Easter Sunday is a big deal, not just for Christians and the Religious, but for everyone. Through Jesus, God flipped the world on it's head, the paradigm changed. Through Jesus, God says to us, "You are seen. You are known. You matter and I love you." Because Jesus was resurrected from the dead, the world and our relationship with God is forever changed.
