Where Matthew sees Jesus as the fulfillment of the Jewish hope, the gospel writer, Mark, emphasizes Jesus as the suffering servant of God. This message examines one of the most complete expressions of what it means to be a Christian in the entire Bible, Mark 8:27-38. In the process, Pastor Mark addresses five questions: Who is Jesus? What is the mission of Messiah in the world? Why did Christ have to die? What is our objection? And, How should we respond?

James could have easily talked about a lack of health or companionship or  a satisfying vocation but he chooses the lack of wisdom and money because these two issues are universal. They stand as placeholders for all the times in life when you come up short. What do you do when you come up short, when what you lack is more than what you have?
