Exploring Tomorrow was science fiction made by science fiction people — hosted, edited and adapted by John W. Campbell Jr. of Astounding Science Fiction, the editor who shaped Asimov, Heinlein and half the Golden Age, with scripts by working SF authors instead of radio staffers. In this Poul Anderson story, scientists seed a distant world with human colonists, strip away their machines and every memory of where they came from, and settle in to watch a sociological experiment run at planetary scale. It works far too well. The colonists start advancing at a rate nobody predicted, and the Galactic Imperial Armed Forces send Grand Marshall Gorham out to answer the only question that matters — whether a planet of geniuses is an asset or a threat that has to be erased before it grows up.
