I got this album when I was in high school, and it has always served me well when I'm in my more gothic moods. I definitely like this recording way more than the kooky Virgil Fox version that we heard a few episodes ago.

    Cheap Trick [25:38]

    "Southern Girls"
    In Color
    Epic PE 34884 1977
So hard to choose just one track from this album, but I'll go with this one. Pure power pop goodness. For interested parties: if you shake the Internet hard enough, you might be able to find a re-recording of In Color produced by Steve Albini that features a sound closer to what the band originally intended. The drum sound on that version's "Southern Girls" is astounding.

    "The 'In' Crowd"
If You Can Believe Your Eyes and Ears

    "Primitive Painters"
Ignite the Seven Cannons and Set Sail for the Sun
    Cherry Red BRED 65 1985
Why yes, that is Elizabeth Fraser on backing vox. And yes, that is some Robin Guthrie production going on there. But no, it's not the Cocteau Twins. Why yes, it is the Deebank brothers. Actually, to my ears it sounds a bit like the Feelies. But who am I to say. Feelies? Felt? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller?

    Madonna [mm:ss]

    "Lucky Star"
    The Immaculate Collection
    Sire W1-26440 1990
Well, since "Into the Groove" isn't included in this compilation, "Lucky Star" will do just fine. I mean, the video is pretty iconic. Made it to number 4 on the Hot 100.

    Yellow Eyes [mm:ss]

    "Jubilat"
    Immersion Trench Reverie
    Gilead Media RELIC93 2017
Some excellent New York-based black metal. Evidently this test pressing is one of 105 that were pressed for the band by Gilead Media for them to sell on their Euro tour, but the records were held up in customs and eventually returned to Gilead.
