Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Edward Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School with a few announcements. Monday is a late-start day with Period 1 starting at 10 am.

This is National Suicide Prevention Month and National Hispanic Heritage Month. Did you miss Back to School Night? You can still see videos from the event at bit.ly/vapabts2020.

Please note that students who are interested in playing a sport, should get a physical and complete online sports packets. You may also contact coaches for updates.  Their contact info may be found at www.legacytigers.com Physicals may be turned in to the VAPA office on Mondays until November 1. At this time, sports are scheduled to resume with practices on December 14, should we be allowed to return to school by then.

We are in our final week of our Fall Enrollment drive. Please let anyone you know who is interested in coming to VAPA as a student THIS year, to contact the office or my at [email protected] before Wednesday. We are also starting our Zone of Choice enrollment drive to recruit current 8th graders to enroll at VAPA through the Zone of Choice process. We have several recruitment events planned over the coming weeks. Please get the word out. Our goal for 2021-22 is 500.

This week we will have our Back to School Night Virtual Event on Thursday, September 10, at 5 pm. In addition to having the opportunity to see our teachers live in the Zoom Webinar, several teachers will post videos so you can see who they work with our students on a daily basis. In addition to our classroom visits, we will give a brief welcomes for myself and some of our students and staff, and you will have the opportunity to learn more about PTSA, School Site Council, and our Gifted and Talented program. Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Edward Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School with a few announcements. There is no school this Friday or on September 7 as we celebrate Labor Day.

Monday is an B-Day with Period 4 starting at 10:05 am, followed by Periods 5, 6, and 7. Our theme for this year is VAPA Strong: Into the Light as we CREATE, INSPIRE, UNIFY, and EDUCATE.

This week we continue our all online schedule. Please note that in Zoom classes, students must use their official first and last name and must show their video if directed by their teacher, or communicate with the teacher if their a technical problems or another issue. Students who do not use their correct name will not be allowed into classes and students who do not show their video or are non-responsive the teachers, will be removed from the online classroom. Please note that all of our school and district rules and code of conduct apply in remote virtual learning and there will continue to be disciplinary follow-up for students that violate rules or the code of co0nduct.

August 23, 2020

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Edward Trimis, principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School with a few announcements.

Monday is an A-Day with Period 1 starting at 10:05 am, followed by Periods 2, 3, and Advisory H and L. Our theme for this year is VAPA Strong: Into the Light as we CREATE, INSPIRE, UNIFY, and EDUCATE.

This week we have our final textbook pick-up and registration paperwork return days. Please follow guidelines for mask-wearing and physical distancing on campus and be sure to wash your hand before you leave the house and when you return. Please also follow the schedule for when students pick-up books. 10th grade on Monday, 11th grade on Tuesday, and 12th grade on Wednesday. On Wednesday, seniors will also take their senior portraits in the MPR. Again, please follow the schedule from Fotorama and senior boys need to be sure to wear a button-down white shirt to the photo sessions.

This marks our 9th year as a school as we look forward to next year’s 10 Year Anniversary when we will celebrate a decade of providing outstanding education in academics and arts for our community and we greet a team from the Western Association of Schools and Colleges for a full accreditation visit.

This week we are pleased to start our regular online schedule with classes meeting in both synchronous (at the same time, led by a classroom teacher) and asynchronous (students working on assigned tasks at their own pace) including live instruction every day. We appreciate of the support from from the district including additional LAUSD teachers and staff who you may see in virtual classrooms or who may call homes to check in with students and parents.

Opening of School Year and Welcome

August 13/16, 2020

Good evening. This is Dr. Trimis, Principal of Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School, with an important message for our students and families.

The first day of school will be August 18. The first two days of school, August 18 and 19, will focus on preparing for online learning.

Students will spend Tuesday and Wednesday morning watching orientation videos about tools and strategies for online learning success, online safety, and digital citizenship. Students need to log on to lms.lausd.net with their username and password and click on their grade level (or homeroom advisory) to access their lessons.

On Tuesday, August 18, at 1 pm, I will hold a virtual meeting to welcome you to our school and answer any questions you may have. The link to this Orientation is www.bit.ly/vapath3  For those who are unable to attend, a video recording of the meeting will be posted on our school’s website.

On Wednesday, August 19, (advisory) teachers will hold an online meet-and-greet session with their students at 1 pm.

On Thursday, August 20, full day of online instruction will start at 9 a.m.  We encourage your child to be logged in on time and ready for this exciting start to the school year.

We are living in unprecedented times and there is quite a bit of information that you need to know as we start the school year teaching and learning online. Please note even in the virtual or distance learning classroom, we are continuing to focus on student success which including on-track high school graduation, on-time attendance, and citizenship.   

Please note these days when students need to go to campus to return signed registration paperwork, pick up textbooks, and advanced instrumental students will also pick-up instruments. Pick-up times are assigned on these dates: 9th Grade on August 10, 11, 20, and 21, 10th Grade on August 24, 11th Grade in August 25, and 12th Grade on August 26. 12th Graders are also taking Senior Portraits on August 26.

Dear Students and Parents or Guardians,

 

It is with great excitement I welcome you, or welcome you back, to the Legacy Visual and Performing Arts High School family! We have been working hard to prepare for a wonderful year for you full of fantastic learning opportunities from the classroom to the stage and beyond! We are excited about the many programs we offer that you will learn about from your Link Crew mentors to the Educare ACE program for all Freshmen.

I hope to see you at Fall events, our Freshman Orientation event, Back-to-School Night, shows, concerts, recitals, and more! Please be aware that given the current health crisis we are all facing, we are not sure at this point what any of these will look like, but we are hopeful we will get back to more of a normal situation soon.

Traditionally, our sports teams would be holding try-outs and practices after a Sports Orientation. We held on online sports orientation on June 20 and it may be found at https://youtu.be/8heKDLamEtw. Please note at this time, all sports seasons will be played in the Spring Semester, beginning with the first day of practices for Fall sports not allowed until December 14 and the first game on December 26. Summer Virtual Orientation for New Freshmen will be on Wednesday, August 12, 2020 from 10 am to 12 pm and the first day of school is Tuesday, August 18, 2020. The Educare ACE Virtual Program will be on August 24, 2020 to September 4, 2020 1 pm – 2 pm, details to follow. Back-to-School Night will be an online event on September 3 beginning at 5 pm. Dear Students and Parents or Guardians,

Please be aware that given the current health crisis we are all facing, our calendar and events schedule is fluid, but will be getting more information throughout the summer.

Hello VAPA Community! This is Dr. Trimis with a few announcements! ¡Hola Comunidad de VAPA! Este es el Dr. Trimis con algunos anuncios!  

We are in the final week of the Spring Semester. This week all students will be returning return any textbooks, library books, uniforms, instruments or equipment for school including performing groups, sports program. SENIORS will pay outstanding fines with the Student Store, return Chromebooks or other technology, and receive caps and gowns. 9th, 10th and 11th Graders will NOT return technology/Chromebooks and will not pay fines this week. ALL SPORTS equipment and uniforms as well as musical instruments will be returned on Monday only, 8:30 am-3 pm.

Students are assigned times on their specific day and can get those times on Schoology.

We will have a virtual Senior Awards on June 11 at 5 pm and Sports Orientation on Monday, June 15 at 5 pm, presented via YouTube Premier. Our Class of 2020 Virtual Graduation will be Saturday, June 13, at 3 pm, presented via YouTube Premier. We encourage you to watch with your families. After the graduation event, diplomas will be mailed to students. Links for both events will be posted on our social media sites and website. Our Class of 2020 Drive-through Graduation Event will be at 3 pm on Tuesday, June 16. Only graduates and their invited guests may attend and there is a strict protocol that will be followed by all participants. Specific guidelines will be sent to all senior families.

We are in the final two weeks of the Spring Semester. This Friday, June 5, at their assigned time, seniors will return any textbooks, library books, uniforms, instruments or equipment for performing groups, sports equipment and uniforms, and pay any outstanding fees at the Student Store. After final clearance, seniors will receive their caps and gowns. 9th-11th grade students will follow the same return process on June 8-11 on assigned dates and times.
