Today marks the start of the big dig on Water Street in St. John's.

The massive infrastructure project will see the city replace the pipes under Water Street, which are now around 100 years old.

Initially the city had planned to dig up the entire block. Now, it's using what’s called “trenchless technology,” meaning they will not have to dig as many holes, and as a result, it will feel more like regular roadwork to motorists and pedestrians.

The project begins today and runs to Canada Day.

But even with the shift to "trenchless technology" business owners are still a little apprehensive about how the work will effect them.

The Canadian Association of Stand-up Comedians, or CASC, formed in 2017 as a unifying voice for stand-up comics in Canada.

They are urging government to include stand-up as an art form so that comics can apply for grants to make albums and tour around the world.
