French Horn phenome Shanyse Strickland plays Thursday July 11 at 8pm for Chamber Music Pittsburgh Just Summer series at the Ace Hotel in East Liberty’s Ace Hotel.  Shanyse combines Mozart Tchaikovsky and Mahler with Anita Baker, neo soul, samba and jazz moods hoping the summer audience will find new sounds to enjoy.  Shanyse tells her story of working with the Pittsburgh Symphony’s Zachary Smith at Duquesne University, her work at Youngstown State and growing up in Akron. The conversation includes observations on getting more colorful representation in the classical music world and where Shanyse is headed next.

WQED's education department has developed a recently new program titled "Inquire Within." The program brings events and activities to local libraries around Allegheny County through partnerships with PBS resources. Liz Kostandinu stopped by to tell us more about the program and about what the WQED education program is up to.

Poets Rick St. John and Samuel Hazo spoke with Jim Cunningham about their shared event coming up on July 9th at Hemingway's Cafe in Oakland. The event is part of the Hemingway's Summer Poetry Series, an annual event that brings Pittsburgh's growing poetry community together.
