Germany has always occupied a special place in the Marxist imaginary. In 1918, the insurgent KPD (at that time known as the Spartacus League), attempted to bring the Socialist Revolution to the West. They failed-- & it wasn't just Fascists who fought them on the streets. The Social Democratic government-- the movement they split from but a few years back-- was responsible for helping the Right crush the Bavarian & German Soviets while they were still in their infancy.

Fast forward to today: Die Linke is a political party in united Germany, one that claims the mantle of the Socialist Unity Party of East Germany, & also the heady mantle of the KPD forward in German politics. But can they live up to this revolutionary past? Up until this current election cycle, Die Linke has never officially supported an SPD (Social Democrats) presidential candidate, but they have stated their intention to do so in the 2017 federal elections, while at the same time calling for radical moves such as the dissolution of NATO.

What to make of Die Linke? Are they revolutionary still? Didn't they learn anything from 1919? If they aren't a 'revolutionary' force proper, are their efforts still worth applauding? Should the German worker vote for them? What to make of the current contradictions in the German situation? Activist Amy King, Academic Rinita Mazumdar, & Philosopher Luke Ford present their unique views & proscriptions for this particular period in Germany's history.

Safiya & I continue through the Torah, from the Persian Empire, back to the 'Holy Land', where the Kingdom of Judah exists under Assyrian authority, & the Kingdom of Israel "is but a distant memory. We comb through books of prophecy, where the presence is women is not only non-existent, but when it does appear, is completely allegorical. The only 'woman' we encounter in this period is the female personification of the 'Israeli'-Hebraic nation.

The exit musick, J. Cole's "False Prophets", is apt -- With a dearth of women, we examine the actual prophecy given by the male prophets -(Hosea, Isaiah etc) and we find them utterly lacking. Unlike with some earlier books, the time between the books being written & the events that they describe is very short. So short that *while being written*, the political situation changes, rendering the 'prophecy' purportedly given by these books fairly useless. In some cases, namely the book purportedly written by Isaiah, the prophecy given is more and more inaccurate as the book goes on.

We also examine the changing political situation of this period, with the two poles of the Hebrew world -- Cosmopolitan Persia & the back-water Holy Land -- struggling for control of the tradition.

All in all, women are nearly invisible. As Safiya notes, prostitutes were the only women in Hebrew society during this period that were given any modicum of free movement or latitude with regard to their lives, though the practice was not approved of in general, & the Hebrews had abolished the 'shrine prostitute' position years before.

In this third episode of the ABC's of LGBT we discuss the two main sexual orientations - heterosexuality & homosexuality. Ria gives us figures and background on the overwhelming prevalence of heterosexuality and the definition of hetero-normativity. Also, we each provide information gleaned from our particular different experiences -- Ria talks about identifying as a 'Lipstick Lesbian' & I talk about deep divisions and prejudices that relate to the over-all devaluing of the feminine in the gay community.
