Laurin is a Portuguese American artist and fashion designer living and working in New York.  She grew up in a small town, far removed from the arts industry, and went to school for premed. After a successful decade long career in the pharmaceutical industry in New York City, she made the decision to pursue her dreams of being a fashion designer and went back to school at the age of thirty-two.
