Someone asks, “What keeps you going?” and my answer is simple: you. Your attention, your shares, and your decision to care are what turn Voices for Voices from a podcast into a living mental health and community advocacy movement. I start with a straightforward request to like, follow, subscribe, and share because the mission only works if the message travels, and we want it to reach people who need support, guidance, and clean help.
From there, I get real about discipline and momentum, starting with a hard gym session and the familiar temptation to skip it. That small moment becomes a bigger mental health lesson: the hardest part is getting started, and the “after” feeling is the evidence. We talk about how routines, service, and healthy choices can reshape your day when you commit to doing the thing you know is good for you, even when you do not feel like it.
Then the conversation turns practical and urgent with extreme heat safety. We talk about checking on neighbors, friends, and family, and we do not forget pets. Hot cars, high humidity, and even short exposure times can become dangerous fast, and looking out for each other is a concrete way to live out community care.
Finally, we step into heavier territory: missing children, exploitation, and why accountability should never be a partisan issue. I share why verification and due diligence matter, how I approach skepticism without losing hope, and what it looks like to stand firm when you get pushback or get written off. If you care about trauma recovery, child safety, resilience, and advocacy, you will hear the heart behind the work and the standards we try to live by.
If this resonates, subscribe, share the show with a few people you care about, and leave a review so more listeners can find Voices for Voices. What’s one area of your life where you are ready to stand instead of sit?

When Speaking Truth Becomes Illegal: A Survivor's Fight for Justice | Episode 305
When a human trafficking survivor tries to speak his truth, should a defamation lawsuit silence him? This episode pulls back the curtain on a troubling legal battle that cuts to the heart of free speech, survivor advocacy, and alleged abuse within a religious publishing network.
Justin Alan Hayes delivers a meticulous reading of the legal response filed by Voices for VoicesⓇ and trafficking survivor David Solomon against Faith and Fantasy Alliance LLC (Realm Makers). The court documents reveal shocking allegations: Solomon claims he was chloroformed, kidnapped, and trafficked for over a decade by individuals he identifies as leaders within the Realm Makers community. His testimony describes forced servitude, sexual exploitation, and even having his name changed to spell "SOS" as a cruel joke.
The countersuit details how Solomon initially tried to address these concerns privately. After forming a friendship with Scott Minor and being offered a leadership position within Realm Makers, Solomon shared his experiences. Rather than investigating these serious allegations, the legal response claims that Solomon's account was deleted within hours, and a defamation lawsuit followed.
Throughout the defense, one principle remains constant: "Truth is an absolute defense to defamation." The filing systematically responds to over 130 points raised in the original lawsuit, consistently asserting that any statements made were factual accounts of Solomon's experiences, not defamatory claims.
This case represents more than just a legal dispute—it embodies the challenges survivors face when powerful organizations respond to allegations with litigation rather than investigation. It raises profound questions about accountability, power dynamics in religious communities, and the courage required to speak truth in the face of intimidation.
Your support means everything during this difficult time. Visit voices4voices.org to donate to our legal defense fund and help us continue giving voice to survivors who deserve to be heard, not silenced!

Burnout rarely shows up all at once, it builds quietly when you keep “powering through” and ignore what your mind and body are asking for. We get real about the difference between true consistency and nonstop grind, and why rest days, sleep, and even a short nap can be the move that keeps you strong instead of stuck. If you’ve been pushing hard in the gym, at work, or just trying to hold life together, this one is a reminder that recovery is part of the plan.
We also dig into the heart of Voices for Voices: mental health, trauma, and recovery, and the belief that everyone has a voice. Your voice is not only the spoken word. It can be music, sign language, sports, art, or the way you show up for yourself and other people. We talk about dropping the shame around getting help, tuning out judgment, and building self-care habits that actually make you feel rejuvenated, even if they seem small to anyone else.
Then we shift to a practical topic that can save lives during summer: extreme heat safety. We share reminders about staying cool indoors, watching for heat stroke risk, and protecting pets from dangerous temperatures, especially in cars. If you live in a hot-weather area, this section is worth sharing with someone you care about.

One quote stopped me in my tracks: “You can’t be inconsistent with the grind. You miss one day and your competition overtakes you.” I sit with what that really means, not in a hype way, but in the lived reality of trying to build habits when you feel tired, distracted, or like nothing is working yet. If you’ve been chasing consistency in your goals, your health, or your creative work, this conversation is a reset that brings you back to the basics.
I talk through the difference between the glamorous part of success and the quiet, repetitive work underneath it. The gym becomes a practical mirror for discipline and mindset: the drive is not the hard part, the mental resistance is. We get into realistic cadence, why missing a day is not the end of the world, and how showing up regularly can give your brain space from the nonstop pressure of projects and responsibilities.
Then life interrupts the productivity talk the way it always does. I share a heat wave safety reminder about hydration and breaks, and I open up about grief, grounding, and what it feels like to return to a family home when your dad is no longer there. We also pull back the curtain on the behind the scenes grind of podcast production: titles, descriptions, hashtags, file quality, platform links, and all the unglamorous steps it takes to keep publishing consistently.
If this hits home, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find it. What does consistency look like in your life right now?

Stress does not wait for your schedule to clear. It shows up on busy mornings, on off days, and even right after you do something good for yourself. We sit with that reality and ask a sharper question: if anxiety and stress are always going to be there, where are we choosing to spend them?
We start with the small, practical stuff that actually changes your day, like building a gym routine that fits real life. I talk about how I’m training now, why I lean toward higher reps instead of chasing max weight, and how adding a little cardio can be less about “getting ripped” and more about warming up the body and protecting long-term health. We also dig into a simple habit that reduces mental load fast: write it down. Workout notes, calendar reminders, and quick phone lists can keep your brain from carrying everything, especially when you’re juggling a lot.
Then we widen the lens to mental health and recovery. Exercise can support mood and resilience, and even a small pet moment can help interrupt rumination. Lucy makes a cameo, and we talk about how laughter, frustration, and daily chaos can all be part of learning how to regulate again.
Finally, we go straight at burnout, corporate fire drills, and the difference between stress spent on someone else’s mission versus stress spent on a purpose you believe in. If this hits home, subscribe to Voices for Voices, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find these conversations. What would change if you treated your stress like a budget?

Walking into therapy can feel like you’re admitting defeat. Taking medication can feel like you’re “not strong enough.” We reject that story and tell the truth: getting mental health help has real emotions attached to it, and those emotions change over time. Justin Alan Hayes shares a raw, personal look at what it feels like to go from avoiding support to relying on it, including the early shame, the fear of the unknown, and the relief that comes when you finally stop carrying everything alone.
We also dig into sobriety and the kind of temptation nobody applauds. Justin describes going years without alcohol after a past of weekend binge drinking, then facing the alcohol aisle again and again at the grocery store. It’s a simple moment that can still be a battle, and we talk about why that quiet restraint is courage. If you care about addiction recovery, staying sober, relapse prevention, and reducing mental health stigma, this conversation keeps it real without turning it into a lecture.
We close with the practical emotional arc of support: how therapy can feel before, during, and after a session, how psychiatry and diagnosis updates fit in, and why medication changes often don’t feel good at first even when they’re necessary. The big takeaway is learning to give yourself credit for showing up, for staying clear-headed, and for stacking small wins into a life that feels steadier.

A broken screen at the gym gave me something I did not expect: relief. No speed readout, no calories, no countdown clock pulling my attention away from my body. I started moving by feel, and that small change opened up a bigger conversation about fitness mindset, anxiety, and why we sometimes need less data to make real progress. If you’ve ever felt trapped by numbers, apps, or “perfect” workout plans, this one hits close to home.
I talk through a real-life gym moment where I can’t even remember which body part I trained, so I pivot to cardio instead. From a stationary bike session to spotting an arm bike that reminds me of shoulder surgery rehab, the theme stays the same: movement does not have to be a competition. Sometimes the healthiest choice is simply showing up, listening to your body, and letting consistency beat intensity.
Then the episode turns sentimental when I notice men walking the indoor track with walkers and it brings me right back to my dad, his cancer diagnosis, and how much walking meant to him while he still could. It also reminds me why I value a no judgment gym, a place where people just let others be people, help when needed, and leave the politics and noise outside.

Some losses don’t show up as a single moment. They show up as a look, a laugh, a whisper, or a quiet “that’ll never happen” from someone you love. Justin Alan Hayes opens up about that kind of loss: the loss of belief from your circle when you’re doing out-of-the-box work and building a future other people can’t see yet.
We dig into the real rhythm of creative projects, entrepreneurship, and purpose-driven goals: seasons of peaks and valleys, long stretches where progress is invisible, and the mental health battle that happens inside your head. When you’ve been judged as unrealistic or lazy, it’s easy to get trapped in looping thoughts and endless “what ifs.” We talk about resilience, protecting your mindset, and why staying optimistic is not pretending everything is fine, it’s choosing to keep moving anyway.
Then we tackle the toughest question: when the work finally pays off, what do you do with the people who doubted you for months or years? We explore “bandwagon” support, forgiveness without forgetting, and how to think about boundaries while still keeping your humanity. If you’re coping with loss, dealing with naysayers, or trying to hold onto self-belief while you build, this conversation is for you. Subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review with the one line you needed to hear today.

If you’ve ever told someone else “just get help” while secretly thinking, I could never say that out loud about myself, this conversation is for you. We get real about the distance between what’s easy to say and what’s hard to do, especially when life gets chaotic and your mental health starts sending signals you can’t ignore.
Justin shares what it was like to reach a late-in-the-game moment and finally accept support after years of pushing through. We talk about the stigma that still follows therapy, psychiatry, and medication, and the fears people carry when they consider treatment: What will it be like? Will people judge me? Will this label stick to me forever? The honest answer is that the unknown can be scary, but staying silent can be worse. Asking for help isn’t weakness, it’s a choice to keep going.
We also dig into self-care and burnout with practical, relatable language. You can’t pour from an empty glass, and you can’t run on an empty tank. We discuss why your body doesn’t separate “good stress” from “bad stress,” how modern efficiency culture pushes people to act like machines, and why slowing down and tapping the brake can protect your health, your relationships, and your future. We also point to 988 in the United States as a crisis resource, and encourage listeners outside the US to look up local equivalents.

Showing up is the hardest part and the most powerful part. We talk about getting back in the gym and why self-care is not a flex, it is a commitment to your health, your mind, and your future. For us, the real win is consistency. It is walking in the door, doing the work you can do that day, and letting that habit support your mental health and longevity over time.
Then we zoom out to what it looks like to build Voices for Voices at a bigger level while staying grounded. Popularity does not protect you from criticism, and growth does not guarantee everyone will clap for you. We share the mindset that keeps us steady: if we feel good about the work and we know why we are doing it, we do not waste energy chasing universal approval. That perspective matters in mental illness advocacy, trauma recovery spaces, and any mission-driven organization where the stakes feel personal.
We also get candid about secrecy, trust, and why we keep our circle tight. When you have been burned by leaks or watched others run with your ideas, you learn to stop announcing everything ahead of time. And to make it real, we break down the preseason mindset: you win before the “game” by practicing, preparing, and putting in the unglamorous reps. If patience is not your strength, we share a practical way to chunk the work so you keep moving forward.
If this connects with you, subscribe, share the show with a few people who need it, and leave a review so more listeners can find Voices for Voices.
