Voices of Wrestling Podcast Network

Coming off news that early estimates for All Elite Wrestling's Double or Nothing pay-per-view may have been among AEW's most-bought PPVs yet, we revisit the strategy behind the WWE Network, as told by former WWE co-president Michelle Wilson.

Plus Brandon Thurston talks about the Wrestlenomics formula and talks your questions!

Chris and Jeff are a little heavy into the critique of comedy wrestling. Drew Gulak re-signs, FTR debuts, and the Hockey Glass era of WWE begins. Also, is Chris taking being a cat dad too far.

This week on Wrestling Omakase we talk some really good matches and, uh, some really bad ones too! If you haven't listened to a 5 Matches episode yet, every week John and the guest each choose 2 matches to watch and talk about on the episode. Then we each choose a third match, which is put up to a vote on the @wrestleomakase Twitter account, letting the listeners choose our fifth and final match of the week. It's a fun retro format featuring all sorts of different wrestling!

As we talk about on the show, Wrestling Omakase is about to launch our brand new Patreon! We go live on Monday June 1st at www.patreon.com/wrestlingomakase. For just $5 per month you'll get: TWO bonus full 5 Match episodes of Omakase per month (our first two Patreon-exclusive guests will be Alan4L of PWTorch and Rich of the VOW Flagship!), our new 1 Match series where John will discuss an entire series of matches in bite-sized podcasts (each covering a single match) starting with every single Kazuchika Okada vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi match in chronological order, Anime Omakase bringing you our first ever anime-exclusive podcast on a wide range of shows, movies and more, and daily tournament coverage of the G1 Climax, Champion Carnival, D-ou and more! Join us on our new journey!

John is joined by first time guest Chris (@funkyassdg), co-host of the Bad Wrestling Podcast (@badwrespodcast). We talk a little about recent events and also just playing Yakuza and EWR/TEW to get through the current quarantine, plus briefly discuss an absolutely amazing opening segment of Friday Night Smackdown from this past week. Once that's out of the way we get into our five matches of the week, and boy are they a doozy:

1. Carlos Colon & Invader #1 vs. The Sheepherders of Butch Miller & Luke Williams, WWC 12/21/85 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pSThGYoMgzM)

2. Shuji Ishikawa vs. Kazusada Higuchi, DDT 9/25/16 (https://youtu.be/3PyPtBU7-gQ)

3. Crazy Crusher vs. Hell Storm, EWR 12/19/04 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vo5RmTOTBb8)

4. Homicide vs. Takeshi Morishima, ROH 2/17/07 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrUZBWHIhoQ)

5. Jimmy Jact Cash vs. Hippy Dicky Moon, SWA 10/8/16 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DqQFo4awoGI)

Topics that come up along the way include: what the hell was going on in Puerto Rico that night, big boy slaps and unfortunately big boy headbutts too, the single craziest match you've never heard of with some absolutely insane spots described in detail, singles vs. multi-man ladder matches, Homicide's place in history, how to put a guy over for a big run, Jimmy Jact Cash somehow having a 20-year career with absolutely nothing to show for it, and Dennis John: What The Fuck? Yes, it's quite the packed episode.

On this episode of Music of the Mat, Andrew teams up with Rich Kraetsch (Voices of Wrestling) to tackle the themes of Kevin Nash! Known by many gimmicks and singlets, Nash is one of the more polarizing figures in modern wrestling history due to his combination of laid back coolness and backstage politicking. Andrew and Rich give their thoughts on the big man, but more importantly break down his many entrance themes from over the years. From Oz to Diesel to the nWo Wolfpac and beyond, this is an episode you don't want to miss (unless you're too lazy to hit the play button).

This episode is dedicated to the memory of Larry Csonka. To support Larry's family, you can contribute to their GoFundMe page: https://www.gofundme.com/f/larrymania-living-on-in-his-girls
