This month’s queer folk radio introduces Seaweed in the Fruitlocker an LGBTQIA+ sea shanty choir formed by artist Rhys Morgan; exploring queer motifs within seafaring history and collective performance in marginalised communities through the tradition of shanty singing.
Rhys Morgan is a queer interdisciplinary artist and curator based in Plymouth, UK. His work explores queerness as an operative in everyday experience, the limitations of its expression, and its relationship with mythologies, folklore and history. Being based in the South West of England, Morgan’s work often reflects on the heritage and experience of queer people on the peninsula.
