Voices Radio

For this month’s Imagine If, @paperplanexmusic hands over the controls to the incredible selector @dianammatias

Expect a selection of deep, progressive house, ambient and techno records that will coax you into places you didn't know you wanted to go until you get there.

Did somebody say disco? Well, disco is the name of the game this month on You Can Dance With Us. Proper grooves followed by a slightly leftfield final 10 minutes. Don’t sit – DANCE!

No fancy “radio copy” this time, just a description - I’ve been listening and playing a lot of SWANA (South West Asia & North Africa) music on my other Voices show and when playing out and about (on @_cicadaaaa_) so naturally I wanted to explore if this region’s music has been “vapowaved” (it has!). I feel I am only just dipping my toe into this and still have so much to listen to but I have been loving exploring this. I was going to play this on my next show but this mix just came together very organically whilst playing around at home with no planning or prep and I enjoyed making it so much here it is, mistakes and all!!

Robin Ball — 50/50 explores underground electronic music through curiosity, feeling and different points of view.

Moving across genres, eras and scenes, it’s about opening up different ways of hearing and thinking about the music — making connections, following ideas, and seeing where the sound leads.

Less about rules and categories. More about curiosity, connection… and the music itself.

Tonight: Disco

“To me, disco feels like where it all starts. It opens the door to deeper sounds.”

Exploring electronic disco and the sounds that grew from Giorgio Moroder’s pioneering work — moving through disco, house and the connections between them.

I made this mix with a bust of Edgar Allan Poe staring at me through the window. The starting point was a song by Grady Steele then it just weaved into all these other songs. Thanks for listening.
