Vulgar Auteurs

From the mind of James Wan, Ingrid Bisu and Akela Cooper, and the camp of Dead Silence level dumbfounded silliness, comes a new type of horror that can only be described as having 15 minutes of actual entertainment. Spoilers. Join Terry, Paco and Jason as they do everything in their power not to equate Malignant to sitting down with your family to watch old home videos on their can't-believe-it-still-works VCR….now where’s the tracking knob?

Okay. What did we learn? Why did we choose Zack Snyder to cover as our vulgar auteur? There are many reasons, and *spoiler* we came through with brighter colors than we expected. Which is strange for a filmmaker that is about as drab in color tone as Takashi Miike. Join the whole gang Terry, Jason, Evan and Paco as they sit down in person (yet again! Long awaited!) to discuss the entire oeuvre of an artist that was previously easy for us to dog on, and yet gave us more surprise and delight than an Ozu flick. That one’s for Terry. We love to poke the bear.

Army of the Dead was more easy peasy lemon squeezy to watch than we had anticipated. What is less easy peasy lemon squeezy is deciphering Zack Snyder's general politics, if he even has any, or cares to represent them in his films. Either way, join the fellas Paco, Terry and Jason as they corral their thoughts on a zombie flick that puts the work in to broaden, and subvert the genre in ways that are ultimately as Snyder-esque as you would expect, and sometimes hope for.

Forget Lawrence of Arabia, or A Bridge Too Far, or Ben Hur. We’re diving deep into what this generation has to offer in terms of epic filmmaking. Except it’s nowhere near as groundbreaking as the aforementioned films. It’s just long. Join the fellas Jason, Paco and Terry as they discuss the merits of storytelling, and how one filmmaker’s vision can be easily skewed by another’s, and how the pandemic has given an entirely new meaning to the term “director’s cut”.

This movie….let’s just say we created an entirely new segment/game based on how we felt about this movie. Join the fellas Jason, Paco, Terry and Evan as they try to whittle through the weeds of the garden party of madness, misguided auteurism, and sensual deviance that is, Sucker Punch.

This week the guys take chopsticks to a pellet looking to uncover the specks of wonderment in Zack Snyder's first animated film, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole.

The trial of the century: Alan Moore VS. Zack Snyder. We're very unsure about this movie...and yet pretty sure about most of it...so...oxymorons aside, as nerds we're conflicted.

How many Spartans were there? We’ll never know. But we do have four boisterous goofballs going crazy talking about Zack Snyder’s second feature film, 300. That’s it!! There were, like, thirty or something. Anyway, join the fellas Jason, Paco, Terry and Evan as they get a little smashed and talk into the wee hours of the night about stylization, incredible action sequences, unreliable narrators, and the overarching theme of this film adaptation, racism. Our first episode back together in one room after a whole year and some change! We’re pretty excited, so bare with the shenanigans.
