  • Ep. 049 - Silent Movie (1976)
Spoilers: Silent Movie is an unsung masterpiece...at least to us. Suffice to say, we engulfed and devoured this movie like Dom DeLuise with a series of snacks and a blueberry pie. Except in this case the pie doesn’t fly off and smack a cop in the face, even if we would be happy with that happening. Anyway, join our resident cinephiles Terry, Jason and Paco as they gut-bust their way through one of Mel Brooks’ unsung comedy gems and try their best at picking apart what makes a daring piece of filmmaking, as Silent Movie is, so warm and inviting in an era where the silent picture had been (for the most part) dead for the past 30+ years, as well as the struggles that come with getting a silent movie off the ground in the 1970s.

  • Ep. 048 - Young Frankenstein (1974)
While the grandson of Victor Frankenstein considers Victor’s work “doo-doo”, there is no “doo-doo” to be found in this beautiful homage to both the original James Whale adaptation, as well as old-school, early 20th century monster movies. Join resident cinephiles Jason, Paco and Terry as they traverse the complexity of ‘70s comedy working (and sometimes not working) in our modern time and sensibilities, and the beauty with which Mel Brooks and Gene Wilder bring a newer face to a classic tale.

  • Counterprogrammers - Raised By Wolves - Ep. 10
Spoiler Alert! "I don’t get it, and I think It's dumb," a solid quote from this episode that does its best to really pinpoint where RBW went wrong, and where it was right for a short stretch. In an amalgamation episode, Jason and Paco cover both the season one finale, as well as a little review of the show as a whole. Thanks for listening, and if you've been watching along with us....we're sorry.

  • Counterprogrammers - Raised By Wolves - Ep. 09
Knock, knock. Who’s there? Counterprogrammers. I don’t get it. Look, just play along please. Okay okay....Counterprogrammers who? Well...I didn’t actually think that far along. Anyway, SPOILER, Papa’s back. Who? What? You’d understand it if you had watched Raised by Wolves up to this point. Some heads get smashed in, sectarian violence breaks out, yada yada yada, table-setting is the least of this episode’s problems. Welcome to the jungle. Fun and games...nnnnn-we don’t have that here, except for the fun and games played with your expectations. Raised by Wolves? More like Abandoned by Plot. Anyway, Join Paco and Jason as they somehow cohesively trudge through a rather upending penultimate episode to an initially promising sci-fi television show. We swear it’s worth the watch...for the most part.

  • Ep. 045 - The Producers (1967)
Mel Brooks has led a full career......full of laughter! HAHAHAHA!!! *loooong sigh* Anyway, the man is a legend, and this week we are breaking into his filmography with his debut feature-length film, The Producers. After coming off the circuit as a young and enthusiastic comedy writer for Sid Caesar, as well as his bouts with Carl Reiner, Mel Brooks steps into the film game, both as a writer, and as a director. Join the fellas - Jason, Paco, Evan and our VERY SPECIAL new co-host moving forward (!!), our good friend and resident cinephile at Cinamecca, Terry - as they discuss the ins and outs of Mel Brooks' debut feature film. It has its faults, but it goes without saying that The Producers is one of cinema's most colorful and audacious projects that has ever seen the light of day within the past 50+ years. Hate what you will. Love what you love. And are actors really people? Have you ever eaten with one?

  • Ep. 044 - Kusama in Review
What makes a Kusama flick? There are many elements to Karyn Kusama’s work, but one theme carries its own merit within her filmmaking. Catch Jason and Paco as they discuss the nuances of Kusama, as well as the struggles she has faced just to make both iconic, and interesting pieces in her career. Whether you like the movie or not, you can feel Kusama’s touch in each of her films.
We are also revealing what genre filmmaker we will be covering in our next series, and, goyim, are we more excited than ever.
