On today’s episode, I had such an incredible conversation with these two gems Gio Petrucci and Renée Meloche who are the hosts of the podcast listen 2 me.
We talked about topics like originality expectations, how social media can change our perspective on what validation actually means, we also discussed the importance of diverse representation in success stories and how this is related to imposter syndrome & so many interesting and important topics that just blew my mind.
If you are looking for food for thought, this is the episode you’ve been waiting for.
Gio is the founder of GIOGRAFIK, a boutique creative studio specializing in branding and design. From developing socially-conscious campaigns to partnerships with an international clientele, Gio uses his platform to create informed, conscious design. See his work at giografik.com or on Instagram @giografik.
Renée Meloche (she/he/them) is a queer writer spinning short stories, poetry, and essays out of the wintry Alberta air. She lives with her husband and two adorable (if exacting) corgis. You can find more of their work online at reneewrought.com or on social media @reneewrought.
Here are the takeaways:
1- If you want to remove distraction from your day and keep your creative flow going keep your phone out of the room and practice mindfulness
2- Remember that validation should come from within first
3- If you know that you’re benefitting from a system that’s advancing your progress over other people you have the responsibility to speak up
4- Look at your own bias to help other people
5- Don’t let society models determine your value or success
6- You are not your thoughts and you always have a choice
7- There’s no such thing as pure originality, everything comes from something that already exists, and it’s derived from someone’s authenticity, privilege and their position in society.
8- Focus on the person who makes the magic happen instead of just focusing on the work itself, give yourself the credit you so deserve
9- Trust your intuition, what you create is valuable, take yourself seriously
10- Give yourself the validation that you need

Is it possible to heal from emotional abuse?
On this episode Catarina talks about her own experience as a survivor of an emotionally and psychologically abusive relationship.
Here are some steps to take when dealing with an abusive partner:
1 - Find emotional and professional support.
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/groups
2 - Educate yourself.
* Books that helped me through this journey
- The book my former therapist recommended is called Psycopath Free, by Jackson MacKenzie
3 - Hold on to whatever reason you have and leave before you get manipulated again.
4 - Use the "No Contact" Method, eliminate any type of connection you may have with the toxic person.
5 - Be aware after experiencing emotional, physical and/or psychological abuse you might experience PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) or C-PTSD (Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), that's why is important to seek professional help and keep working on your healing.
https://www.psychologytoday.com/us
6 - Remember your healing journey will not be linear. You will experience ups and downs, but you will certainly not be back to square 0. That is impossible once you learned what you did so far.
7 - Don't let other peoples' perspective blind yours. What you have gone through is valid and no one can say otherwise.
8 - Surround yourself with supportive people and don't be afraid to cut ties with toxic and unsupportive ones.

What does it really mean to be productive?
In this episode, I bring my own perspective along with some research around this topic.
Here are the takeaways:
1- Understand your own schedule instead of following someone's recommendation for how many sleep hours a human being needs;
2- Sleeping fewer hours to create more time actually stretches out your day, but also can make you take longer to accomplish any task because you aren't fully rested;
4-Create quarterly goals instead of yearly goals. That makes you create a better sense of accomplishment which can help you get motivated for your future projects;
5- Coffee and Donuts aren't fuel. It has been proven that a poor nutrient diet can actually lower your immunity and make you more vulnerable. And if your body lacks important nutrients your mental health will be affected and so will your productivity;
All areas of our lives are connected and deserve equal attention.

In this episode, I talk about my experience dealing with people's opinions and judgment about my life goals and dreams.
Additionally, I invite you to create an empowering statement to kick start your beautiful journey. If you can, take some time to close your eyes and repeat these words to yourself:
I allow myself to have an amazing experience, I allow myself to have the incredible, I open the doors for the extraordinary, I allow myself to have: (SAY YOUR DREAM) and feel the energy travel through your body when you say these words to yourself. Believe your inner power.
Feel free to adapt this statement as much as you want, but don't forget to pump yourself up!

I honestly believe understanding ourselves is the one thing we all need to do before we start trying out new strategies and begin new projects. So I recorded this mini-episode to give you some perspective on it and reinforce the idea of self-awareness.
Questions to ask yourself before starting a new personal project or trying out a new strategy:
How does that apply to my life?
Is this feasible?
Have I tried something similar before?
Has it worked?
And why do I think that is?
The key here is to understand patterns of what was effective in the past and what wasn’t so you can make decisions based on the existing data, this will help you understand your areas of strength and areas you need improvement. Remember this is not an overnight process, it takes time to become aware of our thought process. Practice makes perfect!
