Savanna Labuschagne, who migrated from South Africa to Australia in 2008, urges the Federal Government to consider the plight of African farmers seeking refugee status in Australia.

 

Ms Labuschagne says white people are the minority in South Africa but no one was suggesting they were the only ones suffering, as black people were suffering just as much due to the “corruption” of the government.

 

“We were looking for humanitarian visas but we picked up a lot of flak, (with people) saying, ‘Why do you feel white minority people are more important than people are from war-torn countries?’ That’s not the case. We are saying our people are as important as people from those countries.”

 

She says people are being raped, having holes drilled through their knee caps, their skin ironed off.

 

“The elderly are also being targeted. An elderly couple had boiling water poured down their throats. I could go on for days. How do we help our people?”

Michael is joined by Karen Stiles, Executive Officer of the Owners Corporation Network, a not-for-profit body representing apartment owners, who claims the federal government's $25,000 Home Builder grants would have been better spent fixing apartment buildings cloaked in flammable cladding which posed a risk to lives.

 

"Once again, strata owners have been left to fend for themselves," Ms Stiles said.

Michael is joined by Peter Baldwin, Former minister in the Hawke & Keating governments & member of the Australian House of Representatives from 1983 to 1998, who wrote in the Weekend Australian that ‘we are in the grip of a cultural revolution and Western civilisation itself is in danger of being destroyed.’

‘Something very weird and profoundly disturbing is going on in the Western world at the moment, something I would not have imagined possible just a few years ago — indeed a few months ago.’

‘We are witnessing nothing less than a cultural revolution, with distinct echoes of the one that rent China in the 1960s and 70s. We see mob hysteria in the physical and online space, and ritual denunciations of anyone expressing the slightest disagreement with the ever-changing orthodoxies of the identity politics creed, as even the hitherto impeccably politically correct JK Rowling has found.’

Michael is joined by Mary-Louise McLaws, Professor of Epidemiology Healthcare Infection and Infectious Diseases Control at UNSW, who says with Victoria going into coronavirus lockdown, it's time to consider moving infected people outside the home.

 

Professor McLaws writes… ‘we know many people pick up the virus in their own homes from another family member, even if the infected individual isolates in one room. This is partially because indoor environments often have crowding and poor ventilation. It's also quite difficult to practice good sanitation, cleaning high-touch surfaces properly with detergent or bleach.’

 

‘The best option is to relocate an infected family member to reduce the risk of spread to the rest of the family. An option is to relocate them to hospitals or other suitable purpose-built health facilities. Victoria's numbers will get worse unless infected individuals are relocated. This is a particular risk for crowded high-rise housing.’

With Queensland borders about to open, Michael is joined by Daniel Gschwind, Chief Executive of the Queensland Tourism Industry Council, whose state’s tourism industry had been crippled by the pandemic and lost up to $5 billion in the past quarter due to COVID-19. 

 

"It came to a complete standstill in March, we’re seeing a slow reopening of activity now but it will be a long road back” Mr Gschwind says.

 

More than $2 billion worth of visitor expenditure is expected to be lost in Far North Queensland this year as Queensland forges ahead with a multi-million-dollar tourism blitz hoping to lure people north as other parts of the country tighten borders.
