Today is the 118th birthday of Lawrence Welk. I remember him from my childhood and every once in a while, I come across his show and watch for a moment. One interesting fact that I learned while researching this is that he was awarded several US Patents including an accordion-themed ash tray. The world is a better place because he was in it and still feels the loss that he left.

Today is the 64th birthday of the performer The Lady Chablis. Savanah seems to have no shortage of characters that are loved and protected. She was larger than life. The world is a better place because she was in it and still feels the loss that she has left.

Forty-four years ago today, the film Airport ’77 premiered. Absolutely star-studded, lavish, action packed, and 70s glamorous. You should really watch this movie.

Fifty-one years ago today, the band Crosby, still, Nash & Young released the album Deja Vu. I heard this a lot growing up, it was on heavy rotation in the car. It’s very comforting to hear it again and very comforting to feel that the music is actually still very good.

Today is the 93rd birthday of the playwright Edward Albee. There is a teleplay of A Delicate Balance done in the 70s with Katharine Hepburn, Paul Scofield, Lee Remick, Joseph Cotten and Kate Reid that is absolute perfection. I found a copy of it and attached it below. The world is a better place because he was in it and still feels the los that he has left.

Today is the 99th birthday of the man who has provided us with one of my very favorite quotes that has become a personal mini-manifesto for me:  Jack Kerouac.  His writing influenced his contemporaries of writers and continues to influence generations of writers and readers.  He is one of the most important stylized writers of the 20th century.  The world is a better place because he was in it and still feels the loss that he has left.
