  • Day 16 - Don't Want to - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 16 – I’ve run out of steam, couldn’t be bothered, didn’t want to go, haven’t got time, so much to do. BUT I went, if only for a short walk – a mile and half, better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick right? Couldn’t very well be encouraging others to do something rather than nothing, so I went for me and a little bit for you.

Willow wore her camera today, which everyone managed to notice and comment on, like I didn’t know it was on there. Have you ever noticed that people will let you walk round with a bogie hanging out of your nose all day but do they say anything ‘no’, unless its me and then I’m pointing, laughing and screaming – you know somethings not right and I got your back, only for my own amusement of course– yes I’m mean deep down inside. I’m nice just enough to lull you to let down your defences. Anyway, I digress; I am going to post the footage, but because it’s one of those cheap imitation go pro camera it doesn’t have a stabilisers thingies in it, so if you think Tracey’s bouncy was enough to make you sea sick you aint seen nothing yet.

I hope you managed to get out today and if you didn’t, did you take stock, re-do the maths because your going to need to claw these ‘missed days’ back. Keep going you know I got your back, as previously mentioned before.

  • Day 15 - Saved a Trolley - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 15 – Today I looked like a Chav pushing a trolley back to Marks and Spencers. 3rdone I’ve saved in 15 days of walking; I don’t think he would have survived in the wild. He didn’t have a pound in and it was good will gesture. Willow actually trots really beautiful beside it so I was really chuffed she wasn’t crisscrossing in front. Another walk around the block, whilst messing with my selfie stick and videos

In two weeks #walk1000miles I’ve done 72.6, left to go, 927.4 miles - weirdly I’m a little excited about coming up to the 100 miles mark milestone.

  • Day 14 - Two Weeks - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 14 – I have walked consecutively every day since the #walk1000miles challenge started. I’m so pleased with that, so excited by that achievement in itself, staying power #selfpraise. Focus on what you have achieved not what you haven’t. You remember I said I have limited focus, well I’m still here, still smashing it – well chuffed.

May have been a tinsey wincey bit over zealous. Walked the dogs half a mile each this morning. Walked Eva before taking Willow round the block and now I’m walking like an old woman, which I am so let me be more descriptive - walking like an old hag witch, each step a feat and an ache. An old hag with, the most extremely firm buttocks.

Dave did ask me what was for tea, at which point I gave him the look, you know the look anyway I gave him the look and said “whatever your cooking”. Let’s be serious I can’t move. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, I’m hoping to walk round the block but I’m hoping to scale back the half a miles. Moral of the story, don’t run or walk long ways before you can walk. Something like that anyway. It’s a very famous saying, you must know it.

In related news - both watch and phone ran out of battery, #sigh good job I’ve done the walk before, moral of related news – charge your Garmin daily because clearly, he ain’t used to this level of pace from me either.

  • Day 13 - Company - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 13 – It’s nice to have company, I set out with my marathon runner, Natasha, we kept our distance – although to be fair she doesn’t look like a lurgy carrier. Let’s face it, it’s not like my voice doesn’t carry. We had a little visitor before we left. You could definitely tell it was Saturday, I thought all these people had to stay home – clearly, they were all out for the one time a day exercise.

Don’t they know this is my route and only the chosen, like Natasha can be on it. Willow kept looking at me as if to say ‘I’m not built for this fly ball weaving malarkey’. I guess she was feeling shy because no poop right up until we got in the middle of some lush green sports ground, l looked at Natasha but she wasn’t taking the hint so I picked me up myself, I thought that was the reason she came to be at my beck and call, apparently not.

To be honest a really enjoyable walk, chatting, laughing and support – Thank you Tash, I can’t find you on Garmin. Side note - I’m 661 out of 4684 people

  • Day 12 - Maths - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 12 - It's all gone wrong, well at least the calculations of my miles anyway. I thought I was doing a ‘boots on’ challenge, I thought I was doing well. The reality is my Garmin is recording my walks, which I want but also recording unaccounted for steps. This came to light because yesterday it didn’t record my walk, so I put it in manually however looking at my news feed it recorded the unaccounted-for steps 11K so in effect it means I recorded it twice.  I’ve deleted the manually inputted one now. I’m not running the race I thought I was which that kind of bums me out. Going forward, I’m going to continue to walk round the block, lets face it there is only so many steps you can do on a 50 foot narrowboat. Now a days a more sedentary lifestyle as we are not allowed out to play. The reason why I wanted to do the ‘boots on’ challenge was because; last year 2020 season, busman’s holiday; https://www.youtube.com/c/NarrowboatChangingPace I stepped 917.2 miles anyway. Going forward - I’m going to continue as it is now, but if I do, sorry, when I do reach my #walk1000steps all in, I’m going after my first desire #1000miles2021 ‘boots on’ #givememymedals (please note the extra ‘s’)

Going back to today, I wasn’t really in the game, took my headphones out again which I may leave at home tomorrow, dragged my carcass round the block. Willow is such a good girl, she walks like a real lady, never far from my side and we had a photo shoot in the empty grounds. She perks me up, always make me smile unless she’s barking. I’m such a proud fur mummy

  • Day 11 - Talk and Walk - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 11  –Had a great walk chatting my way round the block, I didn’t walk faster but didn’t notice so much of the walk. Thank you to Lisa, Mary and Irene for keeping me company, it did ease the pain, right till I got home and accidently didn’t save the walk on my Garmin, which kind of bummed me out. I know what a difference a fortnight makes, I didn’t think such a thing would upset me but I need gratification, I need to see and relish the reward on seeing it all mapped out.  Anyways I pulled up my big girl pants and entered it in manually, don’t sweat the small stuff Louise.

Talking of Gratification - Got this beaut today, yeah go me. My 50 miles in the bag award / certificate. Well chuffed. Keep going climb your own personal mountain - Do a little Dance - shake a little thing - get down tonight, get down tonight

  • Day 10 - The Beat - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 10 – I can see a pattern developing here Miss Willow, poop and a pee straight out of the gate although she didn’t seem to mind going for a walk #walk1000miles.

Let me explain, today for the first time I wore my headphones and all was good with the world, basically because I couldn’t hear it. Okay slight over exaggeration I had one ear in the world and one out – always good to be aware of your surroundings. I think Willow likened it to a ‘Pink’ concert, she loved my singing, I mean who wouldn’t!! Also did some secret strutting when the Bee Gees made a guest appearance, well when I say secret not exactly, but to be fair I’m never going to see them again, no not the Bee Gees of course I’m going to see them again, they’ve asked me to tour with them – Clearly ‘I win again’.  I was referring to the dazzled onlookers at my free performance.

Anyways let’s get to the gritty – same route as yesterday, mud, canal, mud, busy road, river, busy road, big open space, mud, canal and home. Oh my body, it is so sore, my wobbles have wibbled, Mr Kanye West you Gold Digger you. No, I didn’t go any further, but my Pace was so much faster, some may say a cross between Lady GaGa and Wonder Woman – I’ve got the moves and boy was those moves moving fast. Got home a bit stinky and dragged my sorry ass to the shower. I still ache, stupid 4 miles.

  • Day 9 - A Whole Week - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 9 – I have been walking for over a week now – Here the big news flash, are you sitting – I have walked every day, Everyday, not missed one, started off really badly, but today, I have found my route, finally got one sorted. Canal Mud, Tarmac, River, Canal, Mud, Home. It’s not the perfect route, heavy car noise but it’ll do for now.

Yeah I know - let’s talk about me some more.

More News flash – still sitting – I have walked the grand totally of 42.7 miles. Isn’t that amazing – anyone who knows me, knows that unless it involves a dog I’m not really into walking. I’d like to say a big shout out to WILLOW who has been with me most steps of the way. Today we had just stepped out of the gate and she pooped and peed within seconds, I can only surmise it was a hint and I could almost feel her eyes rolling as we set off on our walk round the block.

Keep going and when you think your empty - be one of those dare devils that drives the cars on fumes, knowing your going to get another 3 miles out of it at least. If I can do it, I really know you can, just have little goals, walk everyday for a week. Or walk a little bit further then the last time. Or try to keep up with the strider in front of you. Little goals because #walk1000miles does seem like a big ask.

Can I just say when I hit 50 miles I might do a little dance and a holler I’m very excited about that, who’d have thought

  • Day 8 - Lost - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 8 – Took Eva out for a short mid day walk, I think she’s comfortable with 0.5 miles #walk1000miles.

Then took Willow and thought, I’ll mix it up and mix it up I did. I in my great wisdom decides to go the other way round the block, clockwise, but I want a few more miles, so without planning anything, got lost. The 5 Weir walk is based around the River Don and the Sheffield and Tinsley Canal. I know I don’t want to be this side of either, so Willow and I were weaving in between Industrial estates. Nearly got took out by a bike, who cut the corner and didn’t expect anybody to be walking never mind Willow. I growled at him, out loud and everything, it’s a knee jerk reaction – I’m a dog person.

Then it started to rain, bitter wind – ended up on a super busy, noisy road needing a wee. Finally found familiar ground which office blocks were overlooking. Had to go up a steep embankment and wild wee (the shame, but even the queen wees, although I suspect not outside, in a bush, on wasteland) – yeah for the below the knee winter jacket.

Walked round the back of Meadowhall and told of a teen for littering when the bin was 4 steps away (it’s my age I’m allowed to do stuff like that – wait till I get older!) Anyways got home, missed lunch, now eating everything. Today’s mileage wise was good, Willow and I clocked 4.8 miles #givememymedal Willow has gone to bed, I suspect in a huff - guess she’s ignoring me.

Day 7 - Who knew shopping could be so good for you? Yes, I see you all have your hands in the air, right? Left Willow home, to be honest with you I think she was happy for some “stove snuggle, I’m not going out in those freezing temperatures, not again” time. Dave and I walked to Meadowhall (big shopping centre) to return and replace some TIMBERLAND boots (not for dog/mud walking) that mummy aka Santa Claus bought/brought me. Some other shopping ie, Nephews birthday etc and then walked home. For the majority walked in the warmth. Clocked up the daily allowance of 3.47miles, thank you very much.

Dave’s back at work tomorrow so I go back to single parent dog walking, so I’m thinking I’ll be able to get my miles in, but we’ll see.

Keep going everyone, for people thinking about doing it, do do. I’d like to think this is a walking community and together, we are stronger, walking the miles together but miles apart. Your Pace Your Race
