  • Day 36 - Lost the Pig - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 36 – Been a busy Day today – Took Eva to vets, dropped van with Dave, walked home. Sun was out and I was in a good mood until - Willow started being a pig – ate everything including bread and something else, don’t ask. She ran off into a bush which I can only assume she was chasing something, needless to say I don’t run as fast as her. Not her finest day and yes I moan and we have a giggle about her behaviour.

However, I was saddened to learn today, that two young man lost their lives on Saturday night, where Willow and I walk under the bridge to get round the block. The bit they are always blocking off due to water levels. The young men’s car had clearly run off the road, breaking the barrier and onto the path we take, and through the fence and into the River Don. Makes you think doesn’t it, I didn’t know them, but just like that they are gone. Sad.

Chase your dreams, be silly and have fun. Don’t put anything off and call your family and tell them you love them. Makes you think! Side note – thank you to you all for being here for me and for each other.

  • Day 35 – Unconditional Love – Walk 1000 miles a year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 35 - Willow the Alarm clock was whining indicating time to get up, the joys of having a dog. It’s not all sunshine and roses, it’s expensive food and then the other end. The being tied down, kennels costing twice as much as the budget holiday. But of course, the security, the companionship and believe me when I say we have some great conversations, how we laugh. The unconditional love. Okay you sold it, I’ll deal with the whining, screaming and barking, it’s a trade-off, I guess. Another beautiful icy cold day and yet = everything seemed OK. Still and Calm. I think Walking gives me that head space to think, when I’m not glued to technology and I do both sorts of walks. What are you getting from your walking journeys?

  • Day 34 - Hiding - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 34 – Didn’t walk today, I hid away on the boat I had so much to catch up on. That my walking took a lesser priority. That’s Okay isn’t it? It’s Okay to have a day off? We did the normal bimble but with weightier things on my mind I didn’t walk.

On reflection, could I? yes, I think probably. Should I have? Again probably.

Here’s the thing though, I don’t think I should feel guilty for taking this one day, for me, for other things. As long as this one day doesn’t become a long week off, followed by a long month off. I hate to say it but I will; you have to take some level of self-accountability, I say that in the same breath as self-praise, which I don’t think I do enough of, and I see that flaw in others. It’s considered boastful, not humble or ‘lording it over others.

We’re all quick to praise and support others so why not ourselves? Why not hold value in what you do do? Not in what you can’t, you haven’t or quite frankly anything you are rubbish at. Do self-praise, do know your value. It’s difficult to know your worth but do try to reflect and get to know you and the value you hold inside.

    Wow – to deep?

On a shallower note, I didn’t move my arse - Soz!!

  • Day 33 - Sunshine - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 33 – Willow the Alarm clock gets me up again, by screaming in my face. I took Eva out for a her quick bimble whilst Dave slept on, after all he is the bread winner. Swapping for Willow we set off - Oh yeah you guessed it round the block. Unsure if you aware, I am not a morning person, I do not like being woken up. However, it was a great time for a walk. The sun was doing its best to take ownership of the shimmering frost on the ground, there was a chill in the air but I didn’t care, I was wrapped up like Mr Soft or the Mitchell man (old commercial references), whichever you prefer. Have you ever noticed how when the sun shines it seems to both literally and figuratively put a ray of light into the day, lifting your spirit and putting you into a good mood? hence the excessive photos. Hope you had a good day? Whatever that looks like

  • Day 32 - Birthday Missed - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 32 – The block route was closed, yes the same sign was up as yesterday, no I didn’t ignore it – I thought I would end up on the TPT Trans Pennie Trail and lack of directions supersedes me, looked at Willow, who shook her head , so I took that as a sign and turned round. I ended up walking round Meadowhall carpark. Not a blade of grass in sight, poor Willow, I was riddled with guilt. Mind you neither was there any cars. I did find where the security guards skive though. Trooped home with my bottom lip hanging out in a sulk, clearly, I was not adulting today – it’s overrated anyway. I did accomplish the obligatory 2.something miles - all was not lost.

  • Day 31 - Smell It - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 31 – Had a really good walk, why? Was I doing a new route? Has all the mud disappeared? Did Boris say we can go out to play? Was Willow a good girl? Did Willow eat anything?

No – No – No – Yes – No We had company, the newly jabbed Natasha the Marathon Runner, now go easy on her she didn’t make me run, she’d have wet herself laughing. Dave describes my running a lot of effort with little forward motion. A bit like Phoebe’s free running (come on people sitcom references) but she does it better ie, more forward steps and not out of breath at three…. That’s steps not miles. Just thought I ought to be clear about my level of fitness. Although what I possess isn’t fitness, it’s more the ability to know and work to my strengths .... and fitness isn’t one of them.

The miles flew by, when I say miles, I mean all 4 of them. Now I’m not telling a lot of people this, only you because you’re my favourite and I know you’ll not go blabbing my personal stuff all about. I can smell it, no not Natasha – I can smell the 150 miles, it’s just round the corner – more accurately, that would be around 8 corners because it would be two more blocks.

Can’t believe you thought that about Natasha!! – little bit rude aren’t you

  • Day 30 - So Cold - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 30 – It was cold, Ice Cold (Yes I know your singing the song - Ice, Ice baby da da da dar) and the wind was howling some and yet we strode on. Took Eva out for a bimble first and then Willow round the block. I’m getting bored of the block, I’m getting bored of the mud, I’m bored of being bored. I do note the days are lengthening and I long for spring, but not April showers. I’d really like to be cruising then we could walk in a different place, every day – The times we live in eh people. Stay home, stay safe, get your jab done. Anyway enough of my longing, my nose nearly fell off - it was a bit like ‘The day after tomorrow’ film reference people, you do need to be clued up on them.

Willow and I spiced up the walk by going the other way round. It’s longer, same walk, just going the other way round longer. Some ambulance peoples tried to take over my Carpark as if that's going to stop me walking through - Not sure I liked that the alternative longer way round.

Day 28 – I’m not feeling it, I lost my mojo, we set out for a walk - my neck hurts, it’s cold and it’s like Piccadilly circus outside. Lots of peoples doing various things and very little lockdown but I suppose they can argue they are just having their exercise just like us. You can tell it’s a weekend/Sunday. Super short walk, nothing too much to write home about but then I suppose that’s the journey isn’t it? Sometimes life just gets in the way. I know where I’ve dropped miles, yes, I’ve got some in the bank but do I want to use them (rainy day miles, literally)? – no I don’t. I’m going to have to re-evaluate what I I’ve done, versus what I haven’t and see whether I need to up. Have you got a plan or schedule? Are you just walking it off the cuff? Roughly it’s about 84 miles a month. I think I’d like to do about 100, which I’m on target for. Must not get complacent, must continue to walk. Willow was no help in motivating me. Snuggled up and sleeping, not very much aware of anything apart from what’s happening in her dream, which was running as she was drumming on the wall and the crinkly of a food packet.

      • Day 27 - Neck Ache - Walk 1000 Miles in a Year #walk1000miles #WillowWalks1000Miles

Day 27 – As I rolled over in bed, I know normally my walking day starts much later ie, when I’m dressed with fresh minty breath. Bear with me; as I rolled over, my neck got in a tangle with itself, and I tore some of my neck muscles, both heard and felt. No chance of going back to sleep after that, up at the crack of dawn. Okay when I say crack of dawn, I mean 8am but that is still very early for a Saturday. I was doing some sort of Frankenstein’s monster impression with one leg longer then then other as I emerge from the boat dragging Willow who was still bleary eyed. Good job we get off the pontoon to the right because that is my preferred direction today. Cracked the left side of my neck.

Was a lovely crisp day, birds singing, no one around and only gone and lost the piggin dog. 8 times out of 10 Willow is directly behind me, like an episode of the three stooges - and what with only being able to turn to the right like a one longer legged Frankenstein’s monster I just turned in a circle for a bit. I called her = nothing. I recalled her = narda I’m beginning to freak out, she’s normally very Velcro. I start retracing myself and hidden in the trees like something out of Call of the Wild is a Black and White disgusting gobbler of, no – don’t ask me what it was I really do dread to think, I don’t want to talk about it. I frown with disappointment, she badly let not only her self down but the team.

I was showing her shame on camera when she turned her head and breathed on me. WOW not pleasant is an understatement, by Sherlock Holmes deduction I can only conclude that “it” the “whatever” had been dead and rotting for quite some time. I dread to think about the digestion and aftermath of such disgusting
