Day 56 – I killed our website late last night. I don’t know what happened, I think it is something to do with code. Didn’t sleep well, got up early again. Oh No it’s Okay you stay in bed you ‘bread winner’ you. I’ll do my stay-at-home fur mummy bit. Didn’t wake up in a good mood.
Took Willow out again and left Eva with her Dad, he’ll take her out when he gets up. Rang my SOS, who somewhat calmed me down so was able to get into the walk. Did take my headphones but only made it half way round, that McD app is a nightmare, once you’ve set it up for click and collect you just hang around in the carpark. Took his Royal ‘brings home the bacon’, a breakfast – erm – breakfast in bed for some, no it’s Okay ‘head of the family’, I’ll take the other dog out as well. Still not in a very good mood.
Powered up the laptop for much frustration and I’ll just try this before I pull in the big guns, and it’s back, to be fair I’ve lost a little, because I back tracked a little too far, but better then losing most of it. – IT LIVES - Don’t ask me about the rest of the day, I’ve barley looked up but I am glad I went out first thing, because as evidence seems to state, I wouldn’t have moved otherwise.

Day 55 – Another Early start today, I don’t know why I got up, and whilst Dave still slumbers on, rather than be quiet, I went out. Willow certainly looked surprised and a little miffed she missed out on yelling in my face.
Took my headphones out and headed round the block with Willow, clearly the pattern dictates that for me it’s easier to walk early before I get heavily distracted by anything else.
Spring is coming I can feel it – went out with my little jacket and even had to take my jumper off, got a right stride on. As we came round the back of Meadowhall a man was trying to run with his two girls both on bikes, both with helmets, but one was about 8, big/little bike and the other 6 little/tiny bike. The youngest was struggling to keep up, never mind the steep incline. The older girl rode ahead and the little one dragging and it’s like every parent’s worst question, was posed to him, whilst he stood in the middle contemplating, which is my favourite child – He went back for the youngest. It did make me chuckle. To be honest with you I’m sure the 8-year-old would have survived in the wild, although the girl had smarts and waited, and didn’t get carried away with the wind in her hair.
Willow did Okay with other dogs, no lunging and we met one of the neighbours – clearly, we were out of the marina because she’s a top ponder and we are mere bottom ponders. On this neutral ground Sharon was lovely and to her saving grace – Willow didn’t try to eat her dog or show me up so win win I feels.

Day 54 – Just a little jaunt today, still distracted by the laptop making a website, that is all coming together nicely. So that’s a week of laptop work really. It just takes my breath away, that I have actually managed to keep walking and recording, our walks for very nearly two months. My staying power, all be it wobbly, has gobsmacked me. Took Eva for her little half a mile, didn’t feel bad because yesterday highlighted her limitations. I can definitely see her abilities or inabilities, little and often - I hate to think of her as getting old #bottomlipquiver, Took Willow for a little jaunt, maybe a mile. Nothing really to report about other than I didn’t wear my big coat, but that’s not really headline material there. Still wore my mummy knitted woolly hat mind. Whilst making the website I’ve been trawling through some really old photos of when Dave was fitting out Changing Pace and found some of her naked.

Day 53 – Spelling bee continues – Actually was rather keen to go for a walk today, had my chickens in a row and Willow nearly ate a seagull, later, I’ll get to it later. So, did a bit of head scratching, think I’m getting the hang of it. I would say it’s a labour of love but to be honest it’s been a steep learning curve and I am super stubborn and will not be beaten. Spell no, I can’t do that but my strengths lie elsewhere in waffle and stubbornness, those are my super powers.
I snuck out before I was asked and I thought well it’s only over there, less than a mile, I’ll take Eva, she can do a mile. Let’s be clear, Eva can’t just do a mile, she was limping by the time we arrived at and she still needed to walk home. I took Eva on the flat run because she’s not that good with stairs anymore. I felt so guilty. Lesson learnt.
Willow went over the stairs surprising people who cut corners – I hope they learnt their lesson. Just after we photographed a sign, yes I know the irony. Some ladies were standing at the traffic lights with a pet seagull. On closer inspection the seagull was injured and the ladies were trying to keep it out of the traffic and phone the RSPCA, good luck with that ladies, the RSPCA didn’t want to know about the poorly moor hen last month. Bird, rat, rabbit, cat or little dog – all fair game as far as Willow was concerned. Whilst these lady’s presence was for the good, clearly our presence was not required. Was a little nerve buttocks clenching time at one point, but these ladies are clearly the hero of this tale. We swerved them and on we went. I definitely misjudged the distance to W it was just across the road, so we used the other traffic light crossing as not to add insult to injury. Ha ha ha see what I did there, injury – the seagull was injured. Never mind I’ll show myself out. The walk, using the word used extremely loosely, was far too short so had to take Willow for a longer one. We’re done, with this challenge #dropmicwalksaway

Day 52 – Woke up with a spring in my step – I know hold me back because I’m coming for you. Yeah, again not sure where I was going with that, but I was at it, unsure what the it was but I was feeling good and had all my chickens lined up. Would you like me to get the point? Not sure I have one other than to say, much better frame of mind.
Didn’t touch my troubling thoughts contained within the laptop – got up, sort out the bed. Did domestic chores. Had my breakfast and reflected, didn’t open up social media, didn’t turn on the telly or internet just sat and was still.
I think my waking journey will be ups and downs, peaks and troffs, I just think that’s the way it will be and the realisation of that is liberating. It’s not always going to be unicorns with rainbow farts, it’s going to have its dark days, I like to call them snow days. It’s not always going to be perfect conditions for getting it done. Here’s the thing. I am getting it done. It’s also about realising my limitations and especially Willows. Do you wanna know something, she’s 8 that is a massive age in Great Dane terms and what seriously upsets me is will she see this through, that thought follows me and petrifies me. I know Eva can’t do it and I see Willow getting older, I see her head lowering after about 4 miles, I don’t think we can pull the big numbers, but here’s where knowing your limitations comes into play, by knowing that we know. Our chosen path has to be consistency and even then we are fighting the dark days. We’ll see – watch this space.

Day 51 – I couldn’t sleep last night my mind was racing, running round this corner and then running back. Darting over there and then the other way. Seriously my head is still down the rabbit hole trying to figure stuff out. If you know me, you know that I won’t let it go, like a terrier with a bone. I need to get it sorted and as a negative, the walking has really unfortunately taken a back step (see what I did there) but quite literally. I have seen your challenge Natasha and I will get to it, you did say it was over the week. I have some ideas but I’ve got my head down a rabbit hole at the moment.
The dogs left me well enough alone again today. We went a for short walk this evening but nothing worth bragging about
Recap on my numbers are as follows; I have walked 222 miles thus far. Currently near Durdle Door in between Bournemouth and Weymouth. I’m still ahead of the pace marker and would like to do 100 miles a month. You remember I never said I was fast! Slow, Steady and Stubborn. I’m 3467th out 7005. When the boating season opens, I’m hoping to pick that number up a bit, especially for the majority of the time being on my own. I think a couple of years ago I did about 20000 steps and travelled the grand total of about 2 miles, I was working a flight of locks. We’ll see how it goes. Please don’t let my lack of focus on walking deter you from achieving your targets. I am in awe of all of you, you’re all doing so well. Rightly so, you deserve to do well - for putting in the time, focus and dedication

Day 50 – Rabbit Warren – Walk 1000 Miles in a Year
Have you ever spent the day with your head in the laptop, concentrating with the occasional interruption from her Royal Highness Willow, of course you haven’t, your lucky enough not to have Willow. Worth noting Eva never bothers me and would sit there crossed legged for three days before she asked anything, for herself. But Willow nudges me occasionally and I go out automatically on auto pilot because my head is still in the laptop trying to figure out why it won’t do what I want it to do. Oh my!! I’m beginning to sound like Willow. We did our short bimble down the locks and back up. If only I could figure it!!
Being so far down the rabbit warren, I was really concerned with missing a previously arranged meet and greet with one of Willows fans. Well, when I say one of Willows fans it’s more like an old work mate of mine, I hope she didn’t feel compelled to come? Michelle kept reminding me throughout the day because I asked her to. You know what’s it like when you’re so far down the rabbit warren you just can’t figure out direction and you certainly can’t see the way back. She’s a very nice lady and was probably doing me the favour pulling me out and away into the fresh air - the great outdoors. Thank you, Michelle, for coming, it was lovely to see you and catch up. I’m sorry Willow barked at you but everyone looks super scary with facemasks on. I suspect she would have been braver if Eva had been there

Day 49 – Today I got up and went for a walk, that quick, that easy didn’t think about it just went. And I think when I go at late lunchtime, I know it’s coming. Normally by the time it comes round I have my head in something concentrating and I kind of resent being interrupted. Weird I know, I resent myself – no not like that. Whereas going this morning I didn’t think about it, just went and hadn’t started on something else. What time do you walk?
It was cold this morning, I warmed up, once I got going. Of course, not with Eva, that generally is just a lot of standing around but with Willow you can get the Pace going.
Willow isn’t as green as she’s cabbage looking (you know that saying right? She’s not as dumb as she looks) because when we went past the disgusting, she looked at me, gave it a side look and carried on like little Miss innocent, yes, its still there, I suspect it’s a misplacement from the ‘Burns Nuclear Power Plant’ yes you clocked it that was a Simpsons reference.
When I say Willow isn’t Green I do mean that in a metaphoric way she is actually literally green. It was easy to hide such a bad habit when it was snowing, I disguised it as snow angles but now the ground is beginning to thaw the truth ‘will out’ so I’ll tell you, but only you. She tries to rub the Halti off her nose, and because of the way it’s made, with the loose bits under her chin, if she rubs hard enough, she can get it into some sort of Alice Band / Head scarf / band. You must have seen it, she does it quite often.

Day 48 – Are you mad! Who walked today? Okay Irene walked today but let’s be fair she is keen as mustard and has some, quite simply excellent views up in North Yorkshire. How far did you get Irene? Anyone else?
It seems to be a battle of the elements today; we’re holding a nice stead 23 degrees (roughly 76F) on the boat. After a big fat discussion today, every day is indeed a school day, Fahrenheit was named after a German Dude who invented the scale, did you know that? Mr Weather person says it’s 0 degrees (32F) outside but feels like -6, that’s bloody cold – Dave has been a wealth of weather knowledge today.
To get to my point after 5 paragraphs (Yes I know it’s not really 5 paragraphs I was paraphrasing, see what I did there? The length it has taken to get to the point). And still I keep winding down the rabbit hole of nonsensical and indeed non coherent reading. However, I do have a point and that is – ITS TO COLD TO WALK
Willow and I took a vote, okay we didn’t it was just me thinking super icy breeze; are you mad?

Day 47 – Blue Moon – Walk 1000 Miles a year
I never really wanted to walk in a routine and yet here I am walking at roughly the same time of day, walking roughly the same kind of route. You know yourself when that starts to happen you’re going to see the regulars. The old couple who walk arm in arm. The fisherman who is apparently called a stalker, because he walks up and down the canal, no I didn’t know that fisher people could be called stalkers without the police being called, but it true. Like any hunter he’s stalking his prey. I digress with fishy facts.
As I was saying now that we are walking, most days we are seeing our regulars, who are doing their own routine and it just so happens that you become entangled with an others routine, would I query where the old couple were if I didn’t see them? You bet, we do the polite nod and continue on our separate ways.
Normally if we see people, bike or dogs I try to get the girls to initially walk to heel on the left or put myself between them and whoever. Generally, for bike I ask them to sit and they are released when bikes gone past. Dogs are more of a challenge, yes, I know your dog is friendly but mine is unpredictable. Yes, I know yours just wants to play, but if mine is on a lead, could you please just do the same with yours.
How often do we have incidents, once in a blue moon. Today was a blue moon – a bike went passed and Willow was sat with all this pent-up energy. Because of fisher people she hadn’t been let off the lead to do her zoomies, so all the pent-up energy it had to go somewhere, it was straight after the cyclist. He was very good about it, stopped - Willow woofed and came back. Good job we ‘polite nod’ know him. I’m pretty sure Willow just thought she was stalking and hadn’t done anything wrong.
Because it cold and horrible we only did half the block. Photographed a Royal Mail Van or two. Because I had already received a wonderful cream egg for my post box challenge. Thank you very much Natasha. The conversation went ‘I’ve got something for you’ my response was ‘it better be a puppy’ so whilst chuffed with the crème egg, did feel I got the short end of the ‘no puppy’ stick – I know ‘whoa is me’
