Day 66 – Thank you all for all your kind wishes for a speedy recovery, clearly, it’s working because the Drama Queen is fine. Nothing that a couple of rest days and not bounding around like an idiot won’t cure. The tigger impression isn’t helping, it comes to us all, the realisation that we are getting older. No, not me, I’m not getting older, I shall stay forever young and, in that respect, I think Willow is taking after me.

I do wish we’d have saved that 50 quid for an emergency appointment. I almost feel conned because she was really acting out of sorts, the screaming and sobbing and Willows was generally distressed but as Dave said money well spent for ease of mind. I do freak out especially as they are old girls. Milo, my Fawn Dane only just made 8 so I have turned somewhat into a hypochondriac fur mum which is well embarrassing.

We bimbled, we came home, no screaming, no sobbing no howling. Well, at least I think not, because she may have done those things in protest when I took Eva out. But as I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t know.

Day 65 - Couldn’t sleep again, it’s getting quite bad, isn’t it? Combination of thoughts and Dave doing his impression of a train. Just because one shoulder is not on the mattress does not mean you are on your side. We are all clear about that, aren’t we? Good to know.

I spent the early hours of the morning bashing away at the laptop. No, don’t worry, didn’t wake Dave up. He slept through that earthquake - you remember when it hit Sheffield in 2008? No Dave doesn’t either. I thought the house was subsiding into the mines underneath, although to be fair our house wasn’t built anywhere near any excavated earth – it could have been, I didn’t know that at the time.

So, bashing away I was and Willow got up again, screamed, neck tear scream, stood on Eva and they nearly got into it, I nearly throw the laptop across the boat and put an end to any fighting. Willow stood there with her trembling head down. She’s pulled whatever she’d pulled before.

That’s what I assumed and then you google it, don’t you? Advice – don’t google ever. You start seeing things, you start reading into things. She’s got Bloat, she’s got Wobbles (coordination thing), she’s got this that and the other. Their dog died from this and his dog had that. Got myself into a tangle, let me tell you. Anyways everything simmered down and I went back to bed, about the time Dave got up to go to work. Nope we didn’t disturb him he was ‘fast on’

I’d only just closed my eyes again and then I was awake again. I took the girls out, briefly round the tree and back. Really wanted to limit movement in Willow. Phoned the vets couldn’t get an appointment; see you next Tuesday. Not that much I can do I’m pretty sure it’s a pulled muscle, trapped nerve or something of that description. She wants to be just like me. But the screaming, when she’s repositioning or stood or sleeping, I feel completely useless.

Dave comes homes and things just escalated. The girls get all excited and that involves movement and movement involves screaming crying and pain, not from Eva. Although Eva is always in pain and heavily medicated due to her arthritis. Being an Akita, Eva is a quiet dog, no fuss, and very independent. Willow is like me, a drama queen, but a queen that is in pain. In the space of those 20 to 30 minutes, we had an emergency vet’s appointment.

Day 64 – How low can you go - Walk 1000 Miles a Year

It’s a struggle, to say the least, to park the beast anywhere due to size and width, yes size is important. Fully aware that cars are getting bigger including the posh electric hybrids. Was off out and about today and trying to park the beast is a right pain in the curb. Midday parking on a busy road, traffic zooming and me trying to reverse park. I felt like I was on my test let me tell you. It took me three goes to pass anyway, luckily only one go to get the beast in the hole.

Yep, you guessed it due to diary commitments no walking today. We did the odd dog jaunt, but the usual bimble, just keeping our hand in and nothing to report.

Willow has unfolded herself from the shower and was doing that downward dog stretch. The one they do in yogo, aptly named after this very clear example as demonstrated by Willow, and then she gave a massive scream. I thought she caught her tail. Dave had stood on her. The boat was on fire. She’d broke a bone or a nail. I shot up and out of my seat like a rocket. She was stood there trembling with her head hung low. My heart nearly broke. Do you remember Day 27? The morning when I heard my neck tear. Same thing I think, poor chicken egg, her head, and tail lower than ‘how low can you go’ trembling like she’d seen a vet. She refused to raise her head and could only plead with me looking at me through her rolled-up puppy dog eyes to make the pain go away. I checked her out, ran my hands the entire length, no tell tail signs. Nothing in her pads. All limbs worked as they should. I can only assume it was her neck, just like her mummy. She seemed to get a bit better as the evening ticked on, the head slowly raised not quite like a giraffe, but it was a good start and we didn’t think anything more about it. Poor puppy dog, poor Willow tell me where it hurts baby.

Day 63 – What a weird night. The boat was the wrong way in and so we can get out of the bow, which we can’t do with the dogs when the bed is down, we slept up the other end. It really turned the dogs upside down. Willow kept screaming at me at regular intervals throughout the night, I think to make sure I was there because it wasn’t like her back leg was hanging off or anything although to be fair by the end of the night/morning I was pretty much-taking requests.

Dave, bless him got up and took the dogs out this morning, and yet I feel this constant checking in on me and screaming was … well it’s like torture. Dave ended up building a fort around me, but alas my lay in had been ruined, and was up at a mere 9am, fair enough, late for work, but not like I can’t be a teenager and go at it either, getting up at midday and beyond is a dizzy dream; see what I did there – dream, sleep in – never mind taxi for Louise.

Walking? #tumbleweedrollspast Yes of course I walked the dogs, ye of little faith, but it was a little bimble nothing worth reporting in on. And no, I didn’t walk around the prison although I did go for a shower, I use gel, not soap.

Dave’s been on it, this weekend – We had a window (didn’t open), then we had a hole, which was very open, now we have a window that you have to get mad at, to open. It’s unreasonable to think that the side of a narrowboat would be straight. Then we went into metal expanding and contracting – seriously I got an E for science, please, don’t care about the middle bit – just want a window that opens. DIY Dave, you better fix it. He did.

Our front button is 10 years old. It’s like the bumper on a boat for non-boaters. Anyway, Mr Pancake wasn’t doing his job. At the beginning of last season, we started the Great Button Debate that finally got sorted before this season, just. We now have a big button below the old button. Might be a slight bit overkill, but at least when we ram you, you ain’t gonna feel it. Also handy for pushing boats out the way.

No great walking stories today but I have gone off on a tangent about boating. Would you rather I didn’t? Let me know, as you know my mind darts here and there and my typing just follows along.

Day 62 – Walking early is always the best way to go. Up before being screamed at, out and off we went, Willow and I. A little frosty start but it’s all good – when you get walking ya get a dab on, no need for any chills to be multiplying. I really enjoyed the walk, and yet I sit here talking to you thinking ‘well what happened?’ the sweet answer is simply nothing.

We saw lots and lots of fisherman, must have been a match on and whilst I didn’t put Willow on the lead, I’m always a little concerned with her clumsiness that she may tread on or push in an expensive rod. But no, best behaviour she walked past, off lead to heal. We did the whole prison route again today. It’s better no mud to moan at. No flowers or anything, no change of scene and no interaction just a nice normal nothing to report walk

Your all bored, aren’t you? You want Willow to be bad? You want action, drama and Dallas!! I know you remember Dallas, if you don’t just go look it up but don’t tell me because that will make me feel old. All the action, happened when we got home.

I had my day scheduled but that didn’t happen due to Dave’s announcement of ripping our front left window out. We turned the boat and whilst she’s this way there are several jobs for DIY Dave to be getting on with. Just so we are all clear and singing off the same hymn sheet, I shall list them as follow; 1. Make the window open. 2. Turn the tunnel light around so it bends the other way. 3. Flip the solar panels (we turned the boat round remember). 4. Drag out the buoy (which we used during the icecapaids. 5. Fill up with water might as well as we’re this way. 6. Bumper our button. The protection on the front is now a bit flat so we’re doubling up with a super large one. This could lead to the tale of Dave ramming the lock gates but you’d have to head over to You Tube for that one. Needless to say, the button didn’t work due to pancake stylness. there were some other jobs and sods but mostly I spent my day running round after Dave.

Day 61 – Today was a big day, no we weren’t told we was allowed out to play, I suspect Willow naughtiness has spread nationwide hence us all being grounded. Is that what you call it? We got grounded in our house, me I used to climb out the window and back in, Yeah – let’s hear it for flat roof porches. Don’t tell my mum that, she thinks I’m an angel. Did you call it “gated” or “Coventry” but I think that’s when people didn’t talk to you. I’m not sure what Coventry did to be so ignored mind. Where did that saying come from? Anyways big day today. Mrs Sunshine was out so I’ve turned off the shoreline, we were holding on 12 volts so hopefully this nearly spring sunshine can hold us for 240 volts. The only thing that is really being powered is the laptop. I know excessively powered with all my bashing on, the poor thing.

It’s true, whatever is on the boat, works and works hard. We haven’t got space for freeloaders. For example, the solar panels also hide a depth of storage, don’t tell the burglars. The dogs work for their keep, keeping us safe, company and entertained. Let’s face it, no one is sneaking up on us with our extremely early warning system. And then with the deep barks and the boat rocking would you hang about? Not me, but clearly, I’m biased. So that was the first big news, free sunshine electric you gotta love these longer days.

I know you’ve already guessed the second big thing – I am a quarter of the way there. I have walked my little socks off for 250 miles. I have made Willow walk all of that with me, poor bugger. Are we nearly there yet, soon – just round this corner? Yeah, go me!! I am amazing! Who said I couldn’t or wouldn’t walk unless there was a pub in sight? Little bit chuffed is an understatement.

I’ve just thought of a third big thing – we/me has been walking for two months, depending on which months you are referring to. Check out that staying power, yes I know, it’s not all been tip toe through the daisy’s, clearly because there hasn’t been any daisy’s and it’s mainly been mud but to be fair I have been tip toeing through that to.

Day 60 – So, we didn’t walk today. Yes, I took the dogs out, I’m not that cruel, we bimbled down the locks and back. The guilt hit just about the time it was starting to get dark, so we all went out, the whole boathold and the dogs had much more fun. More than I could have ever created on my own. Much biting each other’s faces off and feet was had.

Willow even found time to eat a dead fish that someone had lobbed in the bushes, because to be honest I don’t think even a flying fish could have made it from there to over there. And by the time I got there only half of the fish was left but the breath on the beast was rancid. The worst thing is Willow doesn’t like fish. That is unless it’s been discarded and rotting in the undergrowth, then of course Willow does like fish. I did contemplate cutting her loose and letting her be free and wild to eat whatever she wanted. But I fear, like a homing pigeon she would find her way home, like Gretel with really bad breath.

I’m pretty sure I’ve hit a milestone, but I think as I’ve been swearing at the laptop too long and it’s holding out on me. The Walk1000miles still says it’s day 59 and as you know this is Day 60 for me. When does it talk to the Garmin? Anyone? Anyway you’ve been warned hold onto your hats tomorrow because it’s time to put on your dancing shoes. Because once the Cinderella clock has clicked that’s me with the quarter of the way there, a quarter of the way to John O’Groats – yeah go me but wait till the clock strikes, maybe like my age it’s going to go backwards.

Day 59 – The alarm clock is ringing, well Okay not alarm clock but they are here, time to go, pack up the boat, throw stuff on the roof. The daffodils have indicated that spring is here, and as such, time to go.  Let’s chase the current, go get it, wave bye bye to the block but we stay and we, we wait, we will be late again this year – we waited last year and we waited the year before.

I see a pattern developing – April apparently at the moment, if we’re lucky. To be honest we see less people when we are out because we are not in a marina community. Because we like to remote moor. I know I know be patient but I have done the block for 60 days. You’ve all been in woods, trees, fields, history and interesting stuff. I feel like I’m walking round the yard at prison for two months.

On the reverse of this, of course is, if someone had said, “your free to go”, “anytime you like” - I’d be like “we’ll go when were good and ready thank you very much”.

Yes, your right there is no pleasing some folks. Don’t think that saying was primarily built around me mind.

The days are longer, the weather warmer and as such the solar is solararing (just made that word up, going to enter it into the urban dictionary which is way cooler than the Oxford), as I was saying before tangent the 12 volt is being held by solararing (yep that word again, thrown it in there for much usage, makes it more valid)

Dave’s just insulted me; said I go off on tangents. Of course, you don’t agree with him, thank you. But as I said to him, how can I go off on a tangent if I’m already on one, then I’m already there and as such I can’t go off on one. Nonsensical statements beat him with it till he submits. That didn’t take long

Day 58 - Another short walk today but like I’ve said from the beginning, it isn’t a sprint it’s a marathon. Not that I would ever consider doing either of those to be fair. My favourite season is autumn, and it felt like autumn today, a very blustery autumn. For half the walk I was tuned out with my ear phones on, and I sometimes feel that not really concentrating on the walk I miss out on, well not on nature, because as you know that doesn’t come near us when Willow is about. How to word it, with my headphones on I miss being in the here and now. The looking and actually seeing, not just glancing as I’m passing but seeing. I purposely took off my earphones and was in the now, loved it. Loved the wind, rustling through the trees, loved it whipping up the leaves that are still blowing about. Loved being head on into the wind, watching Willow ears wibble. All in short walk but I enjoyed it. Still a little bit bummed on the Prime Ministers announcement but to be honest we didn’t get out till June last year and still had a fabulous year so we’re sitting here, waiting.

Day 57 - What a busy day today, couple of appointments, running around and achieving nothin. Well, when I say nothing it looks like I achieved loads, by the photos but actually I cheated I just took a lot of photos of our feet on different terrain. The Challenge to photograph us walking over different surfaces. Willow was miffed because she was off playing, zoomies, jumping up tigger style, trying to become one with the grass and I just kept calling her over to photograph her feet. It did make me laugh, her bemused reaction, like I didn’t have a challenge to live up to. Don’t tell Natasha, she’ll think we’ve walked for miles when actually we’d be lucky if it was a couple.
