Walk 1000 miles a Year; Can a Great Dane and a Couch Potato #walk1000miles 2021?

Day 86 – Got dressed for the first time in a decade, wore clothes and everything.  To be honest I needed to.  I had an appointment at the cardiology department, they well and truly hooked me up to a monitor, the only saving grace here is the lady said the monitor is quite small to what they used to be.  Thankfully it is not when it used to be.  It has a little clip which I am clip to my clothes and I have now found myself telling everyone the time.  That is the only piece of information this little gadget tells me, so I’m playing to my strengths.  There is a slight blip in the fact that my clock is 2 minutes slower than everyone else’s, potentially I and whomever I’ve done my talking clock impression to, could be late for things.

Day 85 – I am clearly no graphic designer and I just can’t seem to make/get the design I wanted.  What I am capable of is picking up software and going on a steep learning curve journey.  These are all really good lockdown projects.  I don’t need to move I just need to concentrate and get my head in the laptop.  What I can’t do, I haven’t.

Day 84 – I’ve been thinking I need to get back out there. I know the saying; don’t put off tomorrow what you can do today – because tomorrow isn’t given. Meaning doesn’t think it, do it, don’t talk it, do it, just do it. I’ll start tomorrow I think. Dare I say I’ve actually missed walking. I’ve actually missed that downtime for me. I’ve missed the relaxation it gives me, and furthermore without being too airy-fairy, the peace and tranquillity it brings me. What, you don’t know the saying ‘airy-fairy’?, it means impractical and foolishly idealistic. Anyways must get back walking, the clock is  a ticking and I’ve been a missing. All those banked-up miles are slipping through; well, I was going to say fingertips, but it would be more like tipty-toes. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. I’m hoping tomorrow I won’t be saying I’ll get walking tomorrow because like another good saying tomorrow never comes, and I bloody want my medal so I best get walking. By me I mean us, gonna have to whip the Great Dane back into shape now that she has become a loafing princess.

Day 83 – Today is officially the first day of Spring. It’s the closest earth comes to the sun each year. It’s the day that white witches frolic around a circle in a prancing Equinox. Your right I have no idea what I am talking about. I’m just making up random sweeping statements as I sit this one out inside, whilst Dave takes up the mantle and does everything again. I am super lucky to have such a supportive spouse.

Spring is here though; it a beautiful day and I feel like I’m missing out. I’m not feeling very social and still uncomfortable so I’m spending the day mostly sulking. Dave’s working on the van and Willow is sunbathing in the kitchen where the sun catches her just so.

Day 82 - That’s a whole week on my own, whilst Dave is at work and I made it. Yeah go me, I do feel a bit better and I do feel the need to be a bit more active, including cooking. Yes, I know this is a walking blog but I’m not ready for that yet.

I love cooking on our multi-fuel stovetop. It’s the little stove in the corner that heats the boat in winter, have to say it’s very rarely on in the summer, maybe unless it’s been a really manky day, wind and rain. The stove is currently rolling 24/7 and that keeps as warm but it can and does on our boat play a dual role and that is, I sometimes use it for cooking. It’s already on keeping us warm so I class it as free fuel, ie not having to put the hob or oven on.

The best type of Dutch Oven, for me has got to be Le Creuset, without a doubt, spot on. Totally incredible. Yes, your right they are incredibly expensive but once you’ve had one you just want wont to use anything else. However, my pot needs reenabling. Is that something that’s still done? I was talking to mum and she was giving me the ‘Mum talk’ about not using metal utilise in it, taking care of it etc etc etc. I did point out that I didn’t and did. She seemed a little bit shocked when I told her my pot was 24 years old, not that I’m that old you understand. My pot has seen me through various life stages, different homes, and areas and I have it even before I met Dave.

Mum has kindly purchased me a replacement and I am so very lucky because whilst expensive they are so worth it – looking forward to another 20 years of cooking with my new pan.

I’m such an adult, especially when you get over-excited about a cooking pan. Living the dream.

Day 81 - We took the girls to the Vets today for their boosters, Willow’s shoulder is still sore. I think I may need a booster too – I’m tired and still not fully recovered. This is probably the first time I’ve been out since the operation.  It only highlights that I have been out of the walking game for far too long. I need to think about putting something in place to help me get back into the race. When I say race, I mean race at my pace, so not really a race. If it was, I would be at the back as I always was at school. I’m not really a natural sportsperson. Actually can I really blame people for picking me last – at the time, yes, but hindsight is a great thing and now I have made my peace with that. Sports and me are still not great big buddies, but I’ll have a go at most things knowing that I’m having fun because it’s not all about the winning – unless it’s the Olympics, then it is, but just the mere words ‘competitive sports and me’ should never ever appear in the same sentence.

Day 80 – It was nice seeing Natasha and Paul today, had a quick chat but Willow kept butting me in the nether regions which was sore anyway, never mind a 6 ½ stone complete knuckle skull butting in that area. I soon gave up with the chat and headed over to the green. Dave picked me up and we went out for tea. Dunkin Donuts has opened up locally and whilst I suspect this is not the way they thought their new franchise was going to work, it was open and working none the less, obviously, we couldn’t eat in, but have never ever had any dunkin doughnuts I purchased one of each. Okay, I didn’t get two, but that was because the package was for 12. Yes!! I did eat 6 donuts over two days and you know what, it was great comfort food. No dunkin was committed during the scoffing. I don’t like coffee, but the donuts were good.

Day 79 - Second day on our own, with Dave back at work and I think we are developing a pattern. The less I move, the better I am, and thankfully the dogs seem to be aware of that so they appear to be less demanding. Laugh out Loud, Willow less demanding. It does seem to be so. Maybe my little black white and green princess is aware that I’m not at my best. She does appear to be less needy and attention orientated.

Picked up another laptop project today, make a logo for Changing Pace. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew on this one. I’m no digital designer, actually, I’m no digital anything. I didn’t have the software and now that I have it, I don’t know how to use it, so this is going to be a steep, steep learning curve and I’ve got to do it fast. Have you ever used Abode Illustrator, well lucky you. Not me though. Got my head down and started the process.

Day 78 – Dave’s gone back to work today, practically ran the whole way there. Guess he’s pleased to get somewhat back to normal, and yet here I am, the first day on my own with the dogs. It’s not like I’m going to be running any marathons and I hope the dogs go easy on me. I briefly took them out twice today, and then Dave took them for a walk when he got home. I think they are Okay but I still feel guilty knowing that they like to sniff and play. I’m sure when we get out there will be plenty of times for more outdoor living and being outside more but these are very weird times we find ourselves in.

I’ve just finished uploading all the walking podcasts I did before the operation so I think by planning ahead that will be me some time to be inactive, moangy, and feel sorry for myself. So that’s one project down and another thousand to go. Dave would chime in, at this point - I’ve told you a million times to stop exaggerating. It’s the little things that make us laugh. It’s an oldie but a goodie.

Day 77 – Dave worked around the boat today, he seems almost grateful to be going back to work tomorrow. He does not appear to be suffering from any of the normal Sunday Blues (knowing he’s got work tomorrow). His uniform is washed and ready, he’s so keen and he’s not left it to the last minute, which he normally does.
