Day 96 - Not working all the days blend so Blur day follows blur day so imagine my fluster when Dave proclaims he doesn’t have to go into work. What Dave at home, under my feet again It only seems like yesterday he had summer and autumn of. Then he went back to work in November and December and then they gave him more time off. Mind you what is it they say, work hard play hard

Dave is working on the van this weekend but did manage to squeeze us in for a bimble. And on this bimble I try to capture the image of a bumble. You know way back then, they used to think that taking a photograph, the image would take your soul from your body. I only mention it because I think that’s still a belief in bee society. They do like to buzz about quickly and clearly far too quickly for me. I’ve been diving in the undergrowth for a week now.

If you look closely they are there, you believe me don’t you. Anyway, I tried video and having looked back over said video I have done it. All bow before me the great bumble bee-hunter. remember when the teacher said about effort well that’s what we are celebrating here. If at first you don’t succeed try and try again.

Day 95 – Sorry again not much walking today, but a busy day nonetheless, first another Eva vet visit. I know it is a shame we don’t have shares in the place, but a complete and utter fortuitous blessing that we do have pet insurance. Oh, boy haven’t we just kicked the arse out of it. Giant breed dog, Giant breed dog vet bills. I know some say that dog insurance is a rip-off but we always get it. I would whole heartily suggest everyone gets pet insurance. Because hopefully you won’t need it and hopefully you will see it as a waste of money but should you need it, it’s there. Big dog 4 times the tablets 4 times the cost. First Dane heart murmur (lifelong condition). And I have never ever had a more poorly dog then Eva, who shot through her £10K allowance of last year in 10 months, and we limped in for the last two months paying and praying nothing else went wrong, came up, or further injury (lifelong skin condition and allergies). John Lewis Pet Insurance, who knew, but they do. They have been so good and paid out with little quibbling and directly to the vets.

At the dreaded Vets, Willow made a scene, as usual, she is completely petrified of the vet, who is a lovely lady. After Willow’s dramatized scenes we went to Mum's – don’t worry we're in her social bubble, well when I say we, it was Me, Willow, and Eva, so how much of social bubble the girls appeared to be is up for debate. But to be fair, mum seemed happy to see them and they were happy to see her.

Not wearing a watch is weird, I feel naked and don’t like it. I was using a cracker packet one, but it clocked me as walking 1000 steps and I’d been sitting down all morning so clearly completely inaccurate. I was retelling the tale, and Mum suggested, as if by magic and totally without suggestion, hints, or peer pressure - Mum had this wonderful idea of me borrowing her Fitbit, amazing suggestion and totally out of the blue. I very gratefully accepted as I still have 2 weeks to wait until my strap turns up.

Day 94 – Bimble Bimble off we go. That was bimble, not bumble because let’s face it, I either don’t have the patience, or they are just too quick the busy bumblebees.

What I did manage to photograph, was a gate. Now you just see this as any old gate, but NO this is a special gate. This is the gate by which we leave for each of our walks or bimbles. This is the famous gate with the path beyond.

CRT paid contractors to improve the path beyond so when it rained people didn’t have to get wet feet, put plastic carrier bags on their shoes or bring spare wellies when they came. CRT ruined all my fun, I used to love watching other people’s misery, which made me laugh out loud, that people would turn round and realise I was laughing at them. Yes, I am that mean. Anyway, now the path has been raised, ruining all my fun, the water now runs and floods the ground just outside this gate. Some would say it was Karma. Erm… maybe.

The pound is the lowest I’ve seen it in a long time, a long long time. But upon a change of dog, they had started to refill it so good news for the fish.

Not so many people out and about today, and walking or bimbaling is so much easier in the sun. Makes me happy as does the surprise ice-cream van that came to the Marina. Yes, I was the only one in the queue, yes I did purchase (don’t tell Dave) a very expensive ice-cream called a bird's nest, so close to a baby bird, but not quite. Now you might not be able to see it in the photo because it was so very very very small, but it’s there. You're going to have to lean in close or take my word for it.

Day 93 – I took the girls out individually for a bimble. Eva first as we chicaned our way through the crowd. Anyone would think that they came for me, to congratulate me on moving again. The only thing that deterred this line of thought was the fact that they refused to clap. Crappy crowd. There was a mass of Lollers just all draped all over the grass.

The Fisher people had started outnumbering the fish. I did in fact think of pushing one fisherperson in. Talk about being unsporting. Fishing in the pound (body of water in between locks) that was down. Not like the fish had anywhere to go. It did put me in mind of Goldfish and how you used to win them at the fair. Sometimes they would be dead by the time you got them home because there wasn’t enough air in the bag. I know fish don’t breathe oxygen, or do they? They suck the oxygen out of the water so if there isn’t enough, ie the plastic bag you’ve been bouncing about because you are so excited, they suffocate. A bit like this instant, where the fish have nowhere to go and significantly less water, as the pound was down by 4 foot (1.3 meters). Yes, I know you would have pushed him in too – good move and I would have certainly been your alibi.

Most of Willow’s walk was spent trying to juggle the lead and the camera whilst chasing the bumble bees, no it wasn’t a swarm, but it did happen on more than one occasion. Like I was saying, chasing the bumble bees who refused to either hover in one place or land and wait (waiting being the significant part) whilst I photograph them. Clearly, the first busy bee put the word out. I bet when they got back to the hive, they all have a buzzychuckle

Like I’ve said previously bimble is little and often walk, which suits me fine. When we went out this evening, we were going to do the normal bimble, but a loose dog which appeared to be under little control by the group lolling by the lock so we went the other way. Up to the bridge and we accidentally, and it wasn’t me, so clearly it must have been Dave, accidentally turned up at 39 desserts. I was like ‘no Dave we can’t, think of our waist lines’ but he was like ‘we’re getting one, as well as a monster shake’ – so we did. I had to do what he said after all he is the man on the boat.

Day 92 – Was called into action by the screaming black and white beast, and off we went bimbling away. Okay I was on my own, standing on the grass whilst Willow rubbed her face on the grass, and I tried to pretend she wasn’t mine until she ran up to me and headbutted me in the thigh. Which was very close to headbutting me in the soreness and taking me out. I’ll say something for Willow, a bull in a china shop ain’t got nothing on her. Let’s consider that as one of the only two people on the whole planet who she headbutts I can only assume that it is an affectionate action, and yet it hurts so bloody much. If I’m quick enough, sometimes I put the zipline lead down, with its hard plastic exterior. Willow plows on and still manages to butt up against that. Saving me from the bony skull that bruises. Willow on the other hand doesn’t seem to feel a thing. Where there’s no sense, there’s no feeling.

Why is it that everyone thinks Willow is such a saint? We met a couple today, I leaded up as did they, and whilst the husband stayed a couple of steps away the wife came in for some Willow loving. Saying how beautiful and calm she was. How gentle and regal. And like butter wouldn’t melt, Willow stands there and looks angelic whilst I look like the bad person even suggesting that the dog had been headbutting me not minutes before. Some people will do anything for a pretty face. I do think Willow works it to her advantage. She did keep a beady on the lady’s dog whilst nudging and insisting that the lady stroke her. Meanwhile, I did feel sorry for the lady’s dog, talk about betrayed. That lady will probably get a ‘who’ve you been stroking’ talk when she gets back home.

Very pleased that Willow held it together enough not to lunge or make a scene, so I’ll consider that a win.

Day 91 – Are you sitting comfortably, if so, then I’ll begin. Just another day at the office. Using the term loosely, I don’t work so I don’t go to the office or anywhere else actually, so I’m guessing my office is the boat. Anyway, there I was, just minding my own beeswax typing away on my beloved laptop, being busy and getting nowhere. My watch strap broke – just like that out of nowhere. Noooo I wasn’t doing anything with it. Of course, I’m sure. Dave had noticed a couple of days before that my beloved Garmin watch strap had split. It could have something to do with it being 4 years old. The buckley bit had broke a long time since and I was using a hair bobble for that bit. But not even my ingeniousness was going to save my watch strap. Whoa is me and whoa to Garmin who do not offer a replacement. Is that whoa or shame. I think the idea is that if after 4 years it breaks, Garmin would rather you purchase a brand new one.

Do you think we have become disposable consumers? I think so, gone are the times of make do and mend. Now it costs more to fix it than it does to replace it and that makes me sad. Just because somethings old does it mean I should upgrade to a newer model – I draw your attention to Dave at this precise moment!!! How do you think he’d feel being chucked on the scrap heap because of his age. I know your all intently staring at Dave, in your minds eye. No don’t worry, I’ll keep him as they say better the devil you know.

So, what we going to do about my watch? Could have a little sob a moange and a whine about days gone by and how it’s been of good service. Or …. Ask youtube. Youtube says that if I buy this strap then I can amend it and squeeze my old Garmin clock face into it. Sounds good, well not so if your not patient because that not replacement strap won’t be here for two to three weeks

You know my thoughts about not being able to record my walking – If I can’t record it, I’m not walking it.

Day 90 – After my day out yesterday to the hospital, I know living the high life. I didn’t really go out today. Dave was tinkering with the lights on the boat because they have been tinkering for over a year and progressively getting worst. We are getting ready to go out for the season so all these boat jobs are coming to a head. Buy a narrowboat they said, it’ll be fun they said. Well, we didn’t buy a narrowboat, Dave built it. For the majority it is fun, but it is also a never-ending process of fixing, mending, and improving. There’s always something to do on a narrowboat. When you should be out walking. Dave is also working on the van, getting that ready for the boating season.

We bimbled out and about in the sunshine. Spring is here and as such, it’s time to go, when we’re allowed. The dogs enjoy being out, we walk and cruise. I’m more comfortable walking, which is good but I don’t want to over to do it, so at the moment, whilst I recover, we’ve gone back to how we used to exercise, little and often. Suits us all at the moment.

Day 89 – Busy Busy Day, Okay, not too busy, but I did get to ride a tram with my mask on which nearly made me panic as I felt I couldn’t breathe. I found my center and pulled up my socks and concentrated on breathing, it helped. I rode the tram-like I owned it and after paying £4.40 return I certainly felt like I should own the bloody tram. That is more than a pound a mile. Even with high petrol prices and a parking ticket, it would have been cheaper to take my own transport. They wonder why the city is clogged up; cheaper public transport might help. Let me step down off my box.

Went to the hospital to get the pinchy, itchy monitor removed. She pulled it off like she was ripping a plaster off, fast. I don’t know about you, are you a dive straight into the pool kind-of person, get it over a done with or are you a tippy-toe oh this is cold by the time you’ve got in everyone else is getting out kind of person. I’m the latter. Yes, I know I should be the other but I just can’t bring myself to do it

Even though I paid a fortune for the fare and should have been driven door to door - I have to walk a bit and I thought; two birds one stone – pretty sure that’s a cruel saying, but a saying nonetheless. Whilst walking I tried to complete the Walk Bingo challenge, was doing alright. Did you know that Sheffield has a variety, and I’m talking a wide variety of different nationalities of takeaways, which is pretty good if your hungry and want to try new things but for the life of me I couldn’t find an Indian takeaway, right up until the point I did!

I was coming up with a very worthy excuse as to why I couldn’t find a weather vane. Had to dig deep into history to find it. Didn’t they do the big scrap drive in big cities back during the 2nd world war, that was going to be my excuse. https://blogs.loc.gov/now-see-hear/2015/01/scrap-for-victory/ The old houses up by the hospital certainly looked like they’d taken part. But wait, look there way up high, a cock on a church. That’ll do nicely pig (film reference)

Day 88 – It’s a beautiful day today I feel the need to get outside and enjoy some of this wonderful sunshine. Life is good. It’s just the normal short bimble down the locks. I have to say we do tend to get a reaction when we walk down a street or in this case a towpath.

Dogs bark I get it. The dogs kept barking, yep I get that to. What I don’t get is why the dogs are not being corrected. Why are the dogs running to the end of their leads and dinging back? That’s the bit I don’t get. No! my dogs aren’t the best behaved, and maybe my dogs aren’t super dog-friendly dogs, but I do try to correct them when there is a need to.

Willow walked to heal very well, I can see her muscles tense like she’s ready to rumble, but she carried on walking, all be it craning her neck backwards to see where they are and what’s going on. She is getting better she used to lunge, bark and make a scene, but we’ve really worked hard together to correct that behaviour. We walk past without incident to report, the problem now is the dogs are behind us, and Willow doesn’t like anyone behind her, might be her super nosiness.

Day 87 – The sun is shining, today is the day to make a comeback. Kylie did it, reinvented herself over and over again. She did it very successfully, I’m not sure if she walks, hikes or bimbles like me, but we are going for a bimble. After the success of being dressed all day yesterday today is the day.

I took the girls separately for a short walk down and back up the locks. It’s nice to be back. It’s nice to be out with everyone. It was so busy I would say everyone and his dog was out, but I was the only one with a dog so I suppose that could have been the dog, but the everyone was there to. Lots of people, everywhere, it seems normal, no one with masks, no one avoiding apart from us. Not sure I’m up to play nicely just yet, still in hermit mode.

Yesterday’s stickers are rather itchy, little pinchy things monitoring ‘go figure’, my heart rate. Yes, those of you who thought my hermit status meant I was dead inside are wrong – I do have one, it’s in there doing whatever it’s doing. Time will tell whether it’s doing it right, but the way my health is going at the moment wouldn’t be surprised if it’s not. I always like to be different; some may say rebellious.
