Day 106 - Pubdaytoday. The Lockdown in the UK is easing and we are allowed to meet up to 6 people or two households outside as the shops, including pubs open. It also happens to be Paul's big 0 birthday so the timing is perfect.

Having snuck out at the weekend I wait, I wait for Dreamcatcher to turn up, as I follow them into Victoria Quays. They, the birthday boy, Natasha, and Dreamcatcher haven’t been out in over a year. They missed the gap when lockdown eased briefly last year, some may say too early, but we didn’t, we shot out like a cannonball as if we were giving the boating season a full gun salute. But they, unfortunately, didn’t. Cruising behind them I almost feel like it’s a bimble. Let’s just say I cruise faster than I walk. Yes, I know it’s a narrowboat, not a speedboat but seriously at one point, I had to knock her into reverse. I guess the Birthday Boy was just enjoying being in the moment and who am I to hurry especially as it was his Birthday. Fine Okay I’m a mean speed demon girl, are you happy now.

We cruised into the quays and I don’t know why people were surprised to see us, is the sun not shining. Is the pub not open. Are we not allowed to cruise? So, the surprise was a puzzle but not my puzzle. We were off to the pub.

Great night, great company, good fun. Thought we might have an issue with the ‘spice’ group but they moved off pretty quickly. What was evident was sunshine brings people, and narrowboats bring Gongoozlers. People meandering m for a peek and poke.

Day 105 - What is going on with the weather, one-minute glorious sunshine, and the next snow or maybe light hail. It was weird, we did spend some time outside, playing football and telling Willow not to eat anything. As for the mattress that someone had kindly left, it was like a magnet to a certain black, white and green Dane. I dread to think which smells she was heading for but heading for them she was. Let’s not talk about that anymore it makes me gip just a little bit. Really and truly, I dread to think.

This area is also where rats are running amuck. Remember I said it’s a hidden gem, very underused and as such the rats are making it their paradise island apart from when the girls are around, they hide then, as well they should. The girls chase them, sometimes they catch them, and other times not. Rats have been seen jumping in the canal trying to get away from the ferocious feet of Willow heading for them. Mind you I’ve also had those fleeting thoughts but generally, I just brace and take the headbutt head-on. I live a bruised life.

As a whole, I do think Great Danes are gentle giants but they are also clumsy offish lumps of low IQs with no brakes, so I guess that’s why they tend not to be rehomed with young children. Okay I’d admit it my last Dane knocked over my little nephew and I was wracked with guilt. Don’t tell my sister – Not Willow Mind. She has yet to push or knock a child over. But I think she thinks that I am fair game, she wants to be so close to me she just keeps coming, with no thought for personal space.

Day 104 - Dave worked on the Electrics this morning, in hopes of stopping our flash. The lights flicker for …. No, no idea why they do but Dave is working through the process of elimination which, to be honest requires much more patience than I would have.

We have had our first invite of the year, which seems really odd because it’s April, we’re going to the pub on Monday as the Lockdown restriction ease. Something to look forward to and also an excuse to sneak out of the Marina down the cut.

We all enjoy the tranquillity of being off-grid and head to our favourite spot. Sheffield and Tinsley Canal is really underused and we use that to our advantage. We use it and love it. I love the industrial units and the nod at the history that once was. I love the little hidden gems that get overlooked by others. After the electrics are sorted, we’ll head off and it’s just nice. It’s nice to be out, to do what boaters are born to do, boating. The girls love it, it’s like a private garden for them and we play, play football and sit outside. Eva is now trying to stay out of Willow’s way. Willow is still rough playing, but I think Eva’s slowed down a lot, don’t tell Willow she’ll be heartbroken, but I don’t think Eva likes to play rough no more.

Day 103 - Set off a little later than expected today and actually I took Eva out first. Returned to the boat and you would have thought a looter was on the boat or Cruella Deville was stealing Willows patches the amount of racket that was being made by little Miss Abandoned. Eva walks for about ½ mile which is about 20 minutes. I know that isn’t a very good pace, but I don’t set it - Eva has to bimble and sniff every blade of grass out there, it’s very time-consuming. Today someone said they wanted to stroke her, Eva went over and proceeded to rub most of her coat on the unsuspecting victim.

Like I said when we got back to the noisy boat, which happened to be ours, the shame!! I took Willow out. I’ve looked all over for a berry for Bingo photography but I can’t find one. I did find lots of 3s (mostly signs) and that, as they say, is a line of three. But like most Bingo games I’m about 20 numbers behind everyone else. Really, I just go to make the numbers up, not the bingo numbers (that would be cheating) but the people numbers but clearly in the present climate no one wants the numbers making up to more than 6, and as is we’re not allowed indoors anyway, so this whole paragraph, you might as well just skip it…..

Mind you if you’ve already read it, then I, unfortunately, am not giving a time refund back. I am also where you are now! slightly dazed and wondering what on earth am I whittling on about. But with a bit more whittling I can confirm that many a time I’ve listened to someone and thought, with mouth dangling open, optional saliva dribble – never gonna get that time back. Just wasted those precious moments listening to the drivel coming out of your big cakehole.

Like today when a well-dressed lady said that old cliché ‘IT must take a lot of feeding’. Why did she just call the beloved, all be it a pain in my arse, Willow an It? And yet further on in the walk from the other side of the spectrum a rough-looking lad ‘reyt nice dog’. To which I responded thanks. So I guess never judge a book by it’s cover, and also maybe these saying;- ‘It’, ‘Saddle’, ‘Whose walking who’, ‘Dalmatian Cross’, ‘that’, ‘bet that costs a lot feed’, - just ilk me!! I’m probably slightly to sensitive to them. If you want engagement, ask the dog's name, that’s always a good start.

Day 102 – After a Rubbish March and a not so good start to April let’s look at the figures

I have walked 308 miles with 692 miles and 264 days to go. When I first started, I needed to walk 2.74 miles a day to achieve the goal of walking 1000 miles in the year. Others have started after and overtook me. Well done them, they’ve put the miles in and deserve to do well. “Wait for me, I’m coming”

March was pretty much my write-off month when it comes to walking. I have achieved other things. I’ve learnt new skills and pushed my laptop to places she never thought she could go. I’ve made a website. I’ve made a logo I’m very proud of both of those achievements. As well as my walking, our vlogging has also taken a back seat. I so desperately need to get back to doing both of these.

Back to the calculations, I know you’ve probably already figured it out but before a rather crappy March I had miles banked, to my good fortune I am about on track. If I stay steady by still achieving the 2.74 miles a day I can still do this. I can still achieve the target of walking 1000 miles in a year

Back into the bimbling routine with walking, going slightly further than the day before. Still not made it around the block yet but, hopefully, Willow and I won’t have to. Dave and I are busy making plans for this season. Hopefully, by the beginning of May, we will be out on the cut again. Walking a different route and seeing a different scene. I’m really excited.

Day 101 – I’m getting back into the zone, maybe not the whole zone but the bimbling routine – it’s all coming back to me now.

As Sherlock Holmes once said “the game is afoot” or something like that. Dave and I are busy making plans for this season. Getting our chickens all lined up and ready. Can you imagine if they were real chickens? They certainly wouldn’t be living with us, they might have been eaten by the dogs but certainly not living. The girls will chase anything including other dogs, cats, rabbits, squirrels, rats, birds anything really with short and stubby legs. They are certainly prey-driven but who am I to argue with the primitive ancestral wolf drive. Actually, I do try, I do lose my cool when they try to eat nature, or far far worse, someone’s much-loved pet.

Back to the chickens - I have actually seen a floating Hen House, you see all manner of weird things out on the cut. Hopefully, by the beginning of May, we will be seeing many many more unusual sights out there on the inland waterways, cruising, strolling, and being, I can only describe it as being free. Walking a different route, seeing a different scene, and laughing with new people. Even if it is only a local movement at the moment - it’s still movement. Does anyone know the definition of local movement?

Day 100 – Why is it trying to snow? I know you're going to say because it’s cold! aren’t you? Thank goodness it did not settle. It was bitterly cold today.

I feel better, so went down the locks and back up. I put the Bingo out late last night of things we need to photograph so camera in hand, thought I did well with the few I got. However, others who shall remain nameless – yes, I’m looking at you!! have whizzed through it already. Am I making it too easy? I ask myself. Should I be saying a photo of a camel, but then where on earth am I going to get a camel from.

I’ve been wearing Mum’s Fitbit for a week now. It’s thin like my Garmin, which by the way I miss terribly. To think when I purchased all those many moons ago I was going to go for a Fitbit I have to say I am glad I didn’t. Mum’s watch is nice and small and I know my strap broke after 4 years but it’s the strap I miss. The Fitbit is strap is quite rigid and hurts my bobble bone in my wrist – give me a break I only got an E in Biology. So whilst the Garmin strap is less durable, it is more comfortable. Guess it’s a trade-off really. I have managed to sync the Fitbit, but it says I’m not walking far. That could be because I’m not walking far, but still, there are ways of being blunt. New strap due to turn up next week. I have no idea where it is coming from, but it was a three-week delivery, and what with Amazon Prime being a next day delivery, three weeks makes me impatient with a sore bobble wrist bit bone.

Day 99 – I did say at the beginning I wanted to do 100 miles a month. As we head into our third month of the year, I have just scraped in. I have had a really shocking, totally terrible March but I still pushed through a milestone today. 300 miles is not something to be sneezed at. It is just setting me up for the rest of the year. I’m coming for you, you best get a wriggle on. I am so very pleased I had miles in the bank to carry me over the self-isolation, operation, recovering, and then jabbing. Dave didn’t have one single side effect, so I guess I got his too, worst Hangover. Fine not the worst hangover but if I’d have rode the bus I wouldn’t have minded paying for the ticket. But buying the ticket and not having the ride was really rubbish.

Today is a new day – Tomorrow is 100 days but today is a get busy day, apart from the punch in the arm I feel fine. I’m moving and I’m Okay, even with Willow in my personal space and the inability to stop short of my space.

And just so you know I got a bee, all bee it shaky and really bad video evidence but I done got one. I also have several photos of the bush, undergrowth, and grass where there are bees hiding but can you see them? can you buggery - Can be found on our website.

Day 98 - I feel completely rotten today, got my jab yesterday. Everyone was like ‘don’t worry about it’. ‘you’ll be fine’. ‘No, we didn’t have any side effects’. I guess I got their share. I was floored. Worst Hangover ever, I thought my brain was going to pound out of my head, I really did. When I bent over, I was going to have to ask Dave to hand me back my head which had rolled off my shoulders. I had to phone in sick again today, what will the management think. I’ve only just recovered from my operation. The worst thing was it was a glorious day, the weather was beating a steady supply of free electricity and I’m curled up on the sofa, wailing ‘woe is me’ only able to sleep on one side because it feels like someone has given me a dead arm, just like my sister used to. Then having slept and wailed on one side for so long, my hip hurts – now there is a true sign of getting older when your hips start to crying. Shall we talk about me some more, because no walking got done with my fuzzy head.

Day 97 – I’ve made a decision that I think everyone will be interested in. I can not possibly pick up dog poop anymore. Is it because I’m lazy? Nope, or Is it a job too lowly for me? Nope. The reason is my hair – I can see you're pondering this one. Let me explain - every time I bend down to pick up a deposit, my hair is simply longer than my outstretched arm, hand, and bag. I bent down to pick up which I do each and every time. There are two camps when it comes to poop picking up, the baggers and the shovel and flickers. Each camp having very compelling arguments. Me I’m a bagger well at least I was.  I do see the merits of the shovel n flick, but to me, the cons certainly outweigh the pros but even if I did adopt this new-to-me method of clean up, I still foresee my hair dangling close or in some very disgusting instances in the deposits.

Worth mentioning at this point that we are dry poops otherwise this would be the worst tale that it is currently turning into.

I’m going to have to bobble my hair, which will be a pain. A bun gives me a headache.
