I greet you in Jesus’ precious name! It is Monday morning, the 12th of January, 2026, and this is your friend, Angus Buchan, with a thought for today.
We go to that very well-known scripture in the Book of Isaiah 40:31:
”But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.”
Now, I saw a commentary by that wonderful old Scottish preacher, who was blind. His name was George Matheson. You know they loved that man so much that when he died, they filled his grave with red roses. They really loved him, a true man of God. He said, and I want to try and paraphrase this for you, ”Flight, running, belongs to the young soul. It is the romance of Christianity. To run without weariness belongs to the lofty, the strong and healthy one. It is the beauty of serving the Lord, but to walk and not to faint - oh, that belongs to the perfect soul.’ He says, ”It is the power of Christianity.’ He says, ”Can you walk…” he’s asking you and me,” …can you walk in white through the stained thoroughfares of men? Can you touch the vile and polluted ones of the earth and still retain garments pure and white? Can you meet in contact with the sinful and be yourself undefiled? If you can then you have surpassed the flight of the eagle.”
Isn’t that so true? We need to walk in holiness. We need to mix with the poorest of the poor, the vilest of the vile but yet not let our garments become stained. We cannot try to help people nd secretly we are living a life of sin. We cannot be involved with things like pornography and adultery, and still stand up on Sunday and tell people about Jesus Christ. You can’t do that. We cannot be hypocrites. We are in the world, but we are not part of the world.
So we don’t seclude ourselves, not at all. We roll up our sleeves and we get stuck in. We help the helpless and we love the poor and the homeless, and we spend time with those who people have rejected, but we do not change our standpoint and we do not change our lifestyle.
Jesus bless you today as you walk through the stained thoroughfares of mankind.
Jesus bless you and goodbye.
