  • The Power Of Persistence
One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up. “There was a judge in a certain city,” he said, “who neither feared God nor cared about people. A widow of that city came to him repeatedly, saying, ‘Give me justice in this dispute with my enemy.’ The judge ignored her for a while, but finally he said to himself, ‘I don’t fear God or care about people, but this woman is driving me crazy. I’m going to see that she gets justice, because she is wearing me out with her constant requests!’” Then the Lord said, “Learn a lesson from this unjust judge. Even he rendered a just decision in the end. So don’t you think God will surely give justice to his chosen people who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, he will grant justice to them quickly! But when the Son of Man returns, how many will he find on the earth who have faith?”

What gift of love could I offer to a King?
What weight or worth could be held within my offering?
    When He alone is worthy
A glory song is inscribed upon my heart
This treasure held in an alabaster jar I break
To bring Him all the glory
Praise God from whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
What sacrifice could be equal to His own?
The cross of Christ has declared that there is naught I owe
Yet I know I owe Him all
Praise God from whom all blessings flow

  • Our Identity
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” They replied, “Some say John the Baptist; others say Elijah; and still others, Jeremiah or one of the prophets.” “But what about you?” he asked. “Who do you say I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.” Jesus replied, “Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah, for this was not revealed to you by flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” (Matthew 16:13-19)
Revelation is key to a meaningful existence. To live a productive life, we must know whose we are, what we are about, where we are going etc. The fact that God placed us in families is proof that identity is important. Knowing that the things that we see are copies of the things we do not see, we must stop to pay careful attention. Ask questions. The Bible records in the Book of Joshua that children would ask their parents why certain traditions exist and their reply was to recap their family history.
…to serve as a sign among you. In the future, when your children ask you, ‘What do these stones mean?’ tell them that the flow of the Jordan was cut off before the ark of the covenant of the Lord. When it crossed the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones are to be a memorial to the people of Israel forever.” (Joshua 4:6-7)
Today, we look into our identity. Jesus asked His disciples, who the people said He was. Their responses are worth noting. People thought various things of the man Jesus. Some thought He was just a prophet; others thought he was John the Baptist; some even thought he might be Elijah or even Jeremiah. Whatever they thought of Him would inform how they related to Him. The question we must ask ourselves today is "what do we think of Jesus?" From whose eyes are we seeing Him."? How have we been relating with Him?
Truth is if you asked people what they thought, you would get as many diverse answers as the folks you queried. Whatever their response would inform their actions. What we must note, however, is that we must all come to the point in our Christian walk where we get to answer the same question Jesus asked His disciples. If He quizzes you, ‘who do you say I am?’ The correct response to this question would unlock your destiny. It did for Peters.
Let's stop to consider the story. Peter responded that Jesus was the Christ, the Son of the Living God. And then Jesus revealed, only God could give a man the revelation of who Jesus is, and it is in that revelation that one will discover who we are as Peter found. Jesus said to him; you are Peter, no longer a reed, no longer unstable, no longer tossed about. From that moment, Peter became stable, rock, reliable, bold, and fearless. When you discover Jesus the Christ, we find out who we are.
For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.
    (Psalms 36:9)
My beloved, let's stop to ask: Who do men say Jesus is? Do you see Jesus through your pastor's eyes? Is He the one spoken about by others to you? By what name is He referred? Who do you say Jesus is? Do you have a revelation of who He is? Have you seen Him? (Phillip said we would see Jesus). Did He tell you who you are?
Many of us have carried identities that were wrongly placed. Labels that have no bearings with where we are going. Ask Jabez he knows that road. His mother called him a child of sorrow. God's identity for him was 'honourable man'. For as long as Jacob was Jacob, he could only scheme his way through life, as soon as he became Israel, his destiny changed.
My dear, I ask again: Who are you? What is God's pronouncement in your life? We all need to pray – Lord show me who you made me. Alleluia!

  • Lessons In Obedience
    Parable of the Two Sons
“But what do you think about this? A man with two sons told the older boy, ‘Son, go out and work in the vineyard today.’ The son answered, ‘No, I won’t go,’ but later he changed his mind and went anyway. Then the father told the other son, ‘You go,’ and he said, ‘Yes, sir, I will.’ But he didn’t go.
“Which of the two obeyed his father?”
    They replied, “The first.”
Then Jesus explained his meaning: “I tell you the truth, corrupt tax collectors and prostitutes will get into the Kingdom of God before you do. For John the Baptist came and showed you the right way to live, but you didn’t believe him, while tax collectors and prostitutes did. And even when you saw this happening, you refused to believe him and repent of your sins.

  • Gods Help is Here!
Oh, that you would rend the heavens and come down,
that the mountains would tremble before you!
As when fire sets twigs ablaze
    and causes water to boil,
come down to make your name known to your enemies
and cause the nations to quake before you!
For when you did awesome things that we did not expect,
you came down, and the mountains trembled before you.
Since ancient times no one has heard,
    no ear has perceived,
no eye has seen any God besides you,
who acts on behalf of those who wait for him.
You come to the help of those who gladly do right,
who remember your ways. Isaiah 64:1-5
    So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
    I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
    “All who rage against you
    will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
    those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
Though you search for your enemies,
    you will not find them.
Those who wage war against you
will be as nothing at all.
For I am the LORD your God
who takes hold of your right hand
    and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you. Isaiah 41:10-13

  • Don't go to Church Without Your God Given Gift
What then shall we say, brothers and sisters? When you come together, each of you has a hymn, or a word of instruction, a revelation, a tongue or an interpretation. Everything must be done so that the church may be built up. 1 Corinthians 14:26.
Dear friend, when you show up in church today, look for someone to encourage, bear someone’s burden, share God’s word, this you must do know that the day of the Lord is near.

  • Abike, the Virgin Bride 2
    His story
He was twenty five and ambitious. His parents were poor, having seen the woes of poverty, Ola swore his life would be nothing like the one his parents lived. He had a childhood friend called Jide, Jide’s stock a wee bit better than my husband’s plus growing up was hard for him too. It was therefore a thing of surprise when Jide turned up to their school reunion and he was the picture of affluence. My Ola would not let it pass him, he pulled Jide aside and quizzed him about the source of his wealth. He demanded for his secrets if there was any.
He did not mince words, told my husband he could not bear what Jide had to go through to be who he was. My husband believed all he was referring to was just in the physical, he did not realise that there was a spiritual angle to things and not all spirits were good. Jide told that he belonged to a club that where members were obligated to be kind to each other. The rule of engagement dictated that they be willing to help whoever was is need. It sounded noble so my hubby decided to join.
They went for Ola’s first meeting with the club and there he got the shock of his life. He was promised whatever he desired only it was in exchange for something precious to him. Of all the things listed, Ola felt his ability to have children seemed like the easiest. His terms was that he must not seek to have biologically or otherwise. He was also told that there was no backing out of the deal. He had to pick.
Believing he had no other choice, he chose childlessness. He told me that was the reason he chose to be with someone who would not want to have sex before marriage.
'My dear, I married you knowing you were innocent and fearing this day would come,' he told me. He said he was sorry and I could do whatever I wanted. He would understand.
My life ended at this revelation. This was twenty whole years! What do I do? What should I do? I have been living a lie all these years! What is my life without children? I know someone might say it is not the end of the age but for me it felt like it.

  • Abike, the Virgin Bride
Let’s talk about Abike, a 39-year-old who got married twenty years ago as a virgin. She was young, full of life and filled with hope and longed for a glorious future.
A big house in a large compound, many children and they would all be hers
Ola, her husband was a gentleman. Though ten years older, he treated her like a queen. Life was good and she could not hope for a nicer home. He gave her all she needed; she was extremely happy; it felt like heaven was smiling down at her alone.
One year rolled into another and the children were not showing up. At first, no one thought anything of it, especially Abike. She did not imagine that she could have a problem bearing children. she married pure for crying out loud!
When the in laws began to ask questions, they answered with confidence. the story was that they were just not ready for children. they wanted to enjoy ourselves before they came.
Ola was extremely gentle and nice, never bothered her nor did he show any signs or worry. if she raised any fears, he was quick to allay them.
He believed in God and His timing. She believed in my husband.
Then it was five years, and she began to feel uncomfortable. She needed to know what the issues were. She needed to consult the professionals. Her hubby was not interested. His point was if he did not worry Her, he did not see any reason why She would worry. By now, she still thought nothing of it.
She held my peace another year, now twenty five! What was the point of marrying early if Abike was going to wait to live her dream of a quiver full of arrows?
She became restless and decided to do something or at least start something. Her hubby would not budge but she could care less. It was also her life and she would not watch it slip by.
She consulted doctors and ran series of tests. All was good but Oga needed to run his own and they ran into a roadblock. Oga saw no need. Children would come when they would. What was the hurry? God would come through when He was ready.e was H
Abike cried, pleaded, threatened, Ola stood his ground. She could not understand his stand. This guy was thirty-five at the time, did he not want children or did his plans for the future not include them?
Two more years of no progress whatsoever and she decided to force things. He reluctantly agreed but chose the doctor. She was happy; at least he would come along. They ran the tests and everything was certified ok.
Something in her did not have rest. She felt like something was amiss. She turned to God and He helped calm her soul.
By the tenth year, Abike had kind of resigned to the fact that she may never have any children of her own. I thought of adoption. Her hubby was undecided, and she would no longer wait for him. She set the process in motion and was put on a wait list. Strangely though, one month ran into six years on the waiting list. Others who registered after Her got their desire….

  • Whose Counsel?
Rehoboam went to Shechem, for all Israel had gone there to make him king. When Jeroboam son of Nebat heard this (he was still in Egypt, where he had fled from King Solomon), he returned from Egypt. So they sent for Jeroboam, and he and the whole assembly of Israel went to Rehoboam and said to him: “Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but now lighten the harsh labor and the heavy yoke he put on us, and we will serve you.”
Rehoboam answered, “Go away for three days and then come back to me.” So the people went away.
Then King Rehoboam consulted the elders who had served his father Solomon during his lifetime. “How would you advise me to answer these people?” he asked.
They replied, “If today you will be a servant to these people and serve them and give them a favorable answer, they will always be your servants.”
But Rehoboam rejected the advice the elders gave him and consulted the young men who had grown up with him and were serving him. He asked them, “What is your advice? How should we answer these people who say to me, ‘Lighten the yoke your father put on us’?”
The young men who had grown up with him replied, “These people have said to you, ‘Your father put a heavy yoke on us, but make our yoke lighter.’ Now tell them, ‘My little finger is thicker than my father’s waist. My father laid on you a heavy yoke; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.’”
Three days later Jeroboam and all the people returned to Rehoboam, as the king had said, “Come back to me in three days.” The king answered the people harshly. Rejecting the advice given him by the elders, he followed the advice of the young men and said, “My father made your yoke heavy; I will make it even heavier. My father scourged you with whips; I will scourge you with scorpions.” So the king did not listen to the people, for this turn of events was from the LORD, to fulfill the word the LORD had spoken to Jeroboam son of Nebat through Ahijah the Shilonite.
When all Israel saw that the king refused to listen to them, they answered the king:
“What share do we have in David,
    what part in Jesse’s son?
    To your tents, Israel!
Look after your own house, David!”
    So the Israelites went home.

  • Parenting
Being a parent has to be one of the hardest things to do. It does not matter if you had to do it as a man or as a woman. The situation may have been thrust on you or may just be that circumstances were beyond your control. Your spouse may have bailed on you, maybe because they died or they walked. Found some other pastures or just left. Sometimes the child you raise is your, other times, they are not. Whilst it is impossible in one swoop, to talk about the different dynamics of your life as a parent, we will attempt to look at some areas that are important to note. Take Mordecai for instance, He did not give birth to Esther, yet he was saddled with raising her. She was an orphan and he was cousin. He took the role, became the voice of reason, the hand that guided, the counsel that lead and the principle that paved the way for destiny. He loved enough to provoke righteousness in Esther and yet required nothing but preservation of the culture of true worship of God. He knew God's laws and ways enough to encourage her to refuse the attractions of the world. He was the caretaker who though in strange environs himself he remembers enough to know that God rules over all. That you are not in your native land does not change your identity.
He was parent enough to not let success or lack of it does not change a thing. Esther's cousin Mordecai was more than a cousin; he became her guardian. He insisted on her staying true to her identity. He watched over her affairs daily. He knew better than to leave her well-being to chance. He nudged her into destiny. He understood the times. He knew when destiny was knocking.
Mordecai was so secure in himself; he would not compromise his stand with his God even in the face of death. We all need a Mordecai in our lives. Someone who knows the real you sometimes saw your beginning, saw you become who you are now and is not threatened by your position or status. We need someone who reminds us of our identity in Christ in God, folks who encourage us to defy the forces of evil in and around us. We need people who will spur us on, especially at critical moments in our lives and destiny. We need someone who provokes righteousness in us.
Now there was in the citadel of Susa a Jew of the tribe of Benjamin, named Mordecai son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, (Esther 2:5)
Mordecai had a cousin named Hadassah, whom he had brought up because she had neither father nor mother. This young woman, who was also known as Esther, had a lovely figure and was beautiful. Mordecai had taken her as his own daughter when her father and mother died. (Esther 2:7)
Every day he walked back and forth near the courtyard of the harem to find out how Esther was and what was happening to her. (Esther 2:11)
When the virgins were assembled a second time, Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate. But Esther had kept secret her family background and nationality just as Mordecai had told her to do, for she continued to follow Mordecai’s instructions as she had done when he was bringing her up. During the time Mordecai was sitting at the king’s gate, Bigthana and Teresh, two of the king’s officers who guarded the doorway, became angry and conspired to assassinate King Xerxes. But Mordecai found out about the plot and told Queen Esther, who in turn reported it to the king, giving credit to Mordecai. And when the report was investigated and found to be true, the two officials were impaled on poles. All this was recorded in the book of the annals in the presence of the king. (Esther 2:19-23)
All the royal officials at the king’s gate knelt down and paid honor to Haman, for the king had commanded this concerning him. But Mordecai would not kneel down or pay him honor. Then the royal officials at the king’s gate asked Mordecai, “Why do you disobey the king’s command?” Day after day they spoke to him but he refused to comply. Therefore, they told Haman about it to see whether Mordecai’s behavior would be tolerated, for he had told them
