  • #92: How Do We Talk Effectively About Climate Change in Washington?
This week, we convene a panel to discuss how we can talk more effectively about the issue of climate change in Washington. We break down what went right and ultimately wrong with Initiative 1631, we talk about the parameters of the newly introduced Green New Deal, and we explore how to convey the urgency of what is one of the most pressing issues of our time.
    Our panel:
    - Aseem Prakash, Professor with the Department of Political Science at the University of Washington and Founding Director of the UW Center for Environmental Politics
    - Steven Karceski, Ph.D. candidate in Sociology and graduate fellow at the UW Center for Environmental Politics
    - Ashley Ahearn, a public media journalist who has covered science and the environment for NPR for more than a decade, and most recently was the host and producer of the environmental podcast, terrestrial.
In the second half of the show, we have our weekly calls to action with Indivisible WA 8 research team leader, Stephen Wilhelm.

  • #91: A Spy Runs for Seattle City Council; New King County Dem Chair Shasti Conrad
This week, we talk first with Naveed Jamali, candidate for Seattle City Council in district 7, which includes downtown, Belltown, Queen Anne, and Magnolia. Previously, Jamali was a commentator for MSNBC, talking about national security issues drawing from his work as a former FBI double agent, an experience he chronicled in his book, “How to Catch a Russian Spy.”
We also talk with the newly elected chair of the King County Democrats, Shashti Conrad, who ran with a slate of progressive candidates under the banner, Vision 2020. Conrad has a transformative view of the role of the Democratic party, particularly as it interfaces and collaborates with grassroots groups like Indivisible.

  • #90: WaPo's Greg Sargent Discusses His Book, "An Uncivil War"; The Seattle Stop the Tears Rally
This week, we talk with Greg Sargent of the Washington Post about his new book, “An Uncivil War,” which details the many ways that Trump and the GOP are actively working to erode our democracy, engaging in every from voter suppression and disenfranchisement, to working to undermine our institutions like the courts and media. But he believes the press has held up, in part because of the way that sources like the Washington Post cover Trump’s lies.
Also, following the harrowing reports on the crisis of migrant families at the Mexico border in California, including footage of children being teargassed, the organization Families Belong Together has called for nationwide rallies called Stop the Tears, and we're joined by Palmira Figueroa, who’s organizing Sunday’s event in Seattle, to give us details.
And finally, we’ll hear from Indivisible WA 8 research team leader Stephen Wilhelm about this week’s calls to action.

  • #89: Congresswoman-elect Dr. Kim Schrier; Indivisible GA-6's Amy Nosek Talks GA Elections
This week, we talk first with Congresswoman elect from the 8th CD, Dr. Kim Schrier. In a wide ranging discussion, we talk about her experiences thus far in DC, about the surprising election night, and about what she plans to do right away on issues like gun safety, checking corruption in the Trump administration, and, of course, health care.
Also, the state of GA has been in the spotlight following the midterms, in part because the 6th district elected its first African American ever, and its first Democrat since 1979, and also because of the contested gubernatorial race there. We check in with the head of Indivisible GA’s 6th to get a view from the ground.
And finally, back here in Washington, the Democratic party will be undergoing a reorganization, or reorg, and 5th LD committee member Josh Trupin joins us to break down what it all means.

  • #88: "Indivisible on Offense" with Indivisible's Policy Director; WA State Legislature Race Results
On this, our first show since the midterm election, we talk with Indivisible’s policy director, Angel Padilla, about the release of "Indivisible on Offense." Indivisible’s brand new guide covers what it means to go one offense as activists, how to hold our elected officials to their campaign promises, and the importance of the first 100 days in a legislative session.
Then, we’re joined by former state representative Marcie Maxwell and by political director for the Washington Senate Democratic Campaign, Alex Bond, to talk about some of the big gains for Democrats in both the state senate and the state legislature.

And then, for this last show before the midterm election, we talk with Chris Petzold, founder and head of Indivisible WA 8th, about what’s at stake, about what we need to do to keep going for this final push to November 6th, and about the historic role Indivisible members are playing right now.

  • #86: Tracking Women’s Rage in America with Rebecca Traister; Our April Interview with Carolyn Long
This week, we trace the historical impact of women’s rage with writer Rebecca Traister. Her latest book, “Good and Mad” details the transformative power of female anger, from Seneca Falls to the #MeToo movement.
Then, with just two weeks to go until the midterm election, 3rd district congressional candidate Carolyn Long has pulled even with Republican incumbent Jamie Herrera Butler in recent polls. We replay our interview with Long from April of this year.

  • #84: Ending Sexual Misconduct in Politics with #EnoughIsEnough; TheRealDinoRossi.com
Stanford law professor Michele Dauber first came to prominence following the sentencing of Stanford student Brock Turner, who was convicted of sexually assaulting an unconscious woman. Turner received a sentence of just six months from Judge Aaron Persky, and Dauber subsequently led a voter initiative to remove Persky from the bench.
Recently, she has launched the Enough Is Enough Voter Project, which is committed to making violence against women a voting issue by actively exposing lawmakers and candidates who have been credibly accused of sexual assault, harassment, or domestic violence, and then working to defeat them at the polls.
Also, residents in the 8th congressional district may have recently seen billboards with the website, TheRealDinoRossi.com, on them, and wondered what that’s all about. Both the billboards and the website are the work of members of Indivisible Washington’s 8th district (and are funded by the Indivisible Project—not in conjunction with any candidate or candidate’s committee). We're joined by one of the creators of the content on the site, Tiffany Smith-Fleischman, to talk about educating and informing voters about the sometimes elusive political stances of Republican Dino Rossi, who's running for Congress in the 8th congressional district.
