World Water Day began in 1993 and since then has been an annual United Nations Observance focusing on the importance of water. World Water Day celebrates water and raises awareness for people living without safe water or access to water. The core focus of World Water Day is to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) number 6, which is: Clean water and sanitation for all by 2030. The central theme this year is Groundwater: Making The Invisible Visible.
In this episode, our guests are Chuck Young and Vishal Mehta. They are scientists from the Stockholm Environment Institute with vast experience in sustainable water management and share their insights and honor World Water Day 2022.

Bangalore Urban Metabolism Project (BUMP) is a joint initiative of the Stockholm Environment Institute and the Centre for Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore. The Bangalore Urban Metabolism Project has a framework and goal to treat cities as living entities that use energy and resources such as groundwater, among others, to generate valuable outcomes and is a multi-institution collaborative long-term program.
In this episode, our guest is Vishal Mehta, a senior scientist from the Stockholm Environment Institute with vast experience in sustainable water management. He is also the principal investigator of the Bangalore Urban Metabolism Project. We will discuss topics related to the project, such as frameworks, goals, computer models, and the role of government agencies. According to the United Nations World Water Development Report 2021, we have to recognize, measure, and express the value of water and incorporate it into decision-making if we are to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) of the 2030 Agenda. Also, COP26 in Scotland explicitly provided a focus on water. In this episode: Laura Forni and Annette Huber-Lee, both scientists of Stockholm Environment Institute, share their experiences on why it is essential to raise awareness about the value of water.

Ecosystems are critical elements of the global water cycle. In this episode, we talk with Marisa Escobar and Doug Chalmers, scientists from the Stockholm Environment Institute. They share with us the importance of freshwater ecosystems in California. We learn about the threats faced by aquatic species, especially salmon, from climate change. We also discuss allocating water for environmental flows and technology's role in understanding trade-offs and opportunities involved in different water management options.
