Jacob had blown it . . . several times, in fact. He was a deceiver, a conniver, and a compromiser. He very often came close to doing the right thing while at the same time seemingly trying to see how close he could get to doing the wrong thing. Does that sound like anyone you know? It sounds an awful lot like the guy in the mirror, doesn’t it? We can all relate to Jacob on some level, can’t we? Thankfully, God doesn’t throw His arms up and say, “Forget you, buddy. Take a hike!” Nope. God in His extraordinary grace and mercy says, “Rise up, Jacob, and come back to Bethel. Come back to where you first met with Me.” Guess what. God says the same to you: “Rise up, and come back home to Me."

QUESTIONS:

1: Is it acceptable that older words from the KJV Bible are being used from the pulpit though they now have different connotations in our modern society such as the traditional word for mule or donkey. Is that necessary for the purpose of the message? And is the physical anatomy also necessary to be specifically talked about for the main point of the message? It takes me back when I hear these things and makes me concerned for the unbeliever that might be hearing this in a church setting as well. Would this be received poorly by them? And are pastors being protected/ covered up when they make mistakes like this? Are the pastors untouchable?

What is our life consumed with? Think about it for just a moment. What takes up most of our time? Work is probably the number one answer for most. The family could be second for many. Yet, it can be painful when we consider the reality of how we use our time and energy. Jesus and other NT writers teach us that in all our dealings, we, as Christ followers are to be about the "now" and "not yet" Kingdom's Business. Yes, we go to work, school, or make a home, but can we say that in all of our dealings, we are doing the business of the Kingdom of God in creating a loving community of the Gospel? A community where Jesus is glorified, worshiped and adored, and the community is built on the foundation of love, and the mission of the Gospel goes out in the power of the Spirit of God. Love up, love in, love out, and love now. Is it possible through the mundane of our day-to-day to live for the Kingdom? Yes, if we remember that the King is coming and will reward each of us for what we have done in and for His glory. The King is coming, and His reward is with Him. Let us all be ready to meet Him. Is 40:10–11 reads, "Behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom and gently lead those that are with young." In Revelation, Jesus declares as the coming King, "And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last." (Revelation 22:12–13) So are we about the business of the "now" and "not yet" Kingdom? Remember this; kingdom business is about God's grace for the undeserving and our shared experience of God's grace with one another.

2: So, it seems like y'all's sacramentology is largely baptist, and I agree with credobaptism but I have a higher (hate that word) view of the sacraments as a whole. I see baptismal regeneration in the scriptures, and the writings of the church fathers and the reformers have convinced me that Christ is at least spiritually present in the Eucharist. Luther's position that you can look back on your baptism for reassurance that you are truly regenerate is very important to me because I struggle with self doubt. But I just can't get past infant baptism, it's so clearly unbiblical, and so the more traditional denominations aren't open to me. Would I be welcome at Watersprings or are my beliefs too far beyond your views?

Are you haunted by a ghost from your past? Many people are. Some who haunted by their past are on the run. If you are, one day, you must come face-to-face with your past. And the sooner, the better. In Genesis 33, Jacob meets a ghost from his past. A ghost that had haunted him for years. A ghost that he needed to deal with. Have you ever lost your car keys? I know it can be frustrating, and usually, there is also great anxiety. Why? Because we have to be somewhere and are on the clock. The relief of worry is without measure when your spouse cries out, "Found 'em!" But some of us have experienced fear and worry when, as a parent when our child has left their place by our side, and we can not see them. (I understand parents who use the retractable dog leash on their kids. So, no judgment.) When we do not know, even a few seconds in a crowded store where our children are can seem like an eternity. Yet, in the book of Genesis, God lost His creation in an instant of rebellion against His commandment as sin came into the good creation of God through rebellion, and His image bearers were no longer in their rightful place of fellowship with Him. But God had a plan. He sent Jesus into the world to seek and save the lost. When one sinner repents, the God of creation celebrates. Jesus in Luke 15 says, "I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. (Luke 15:6–7) and "Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents." (Luke 15:10) There is great joy in the discovery that which was lost is put back into its rightful place.
