Luke 8:1-18. The book of Proverbs tells us to, "Keep your heart with all diligence, for out of it spring the issues of life. (Proverbs 4:23). Jesus in like manner says that "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good, and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks." (Luke 6:45) What is the condition of our heart? Have our hearts become so hard that we refuse to hear the Word of God spoken into it? Have the difficulties of this life taken away our joy as zeal for God? Are we so distracted with the care and of this life that we have become fruitless for God's kingdom? I hope none of those are the case. However, we are fickle people. We all must tend the issues of the heart that we may find ourselves unwavering, unmovable, and unshakable in our desire to deeply know and obey the Word of God in order to be fruitful for the Kingdom of God.

Revelation 2:12-17. We all, without question, face a world full of temptations. We can so focus on the things of the Lord and His Kingdom, minding our business, as we walk in the light of fellowship with Him. Then it seems, out of now where, that His light seems to fade from our lives. But it is not God who has changed, but we who have moved. We have wandered off the path again chasing something or someone shiny and new in the shadows of this world. Much of the time we are so combusted with our desires we do not really notice that it is a trap. The snare of the devil waits to consume us every time we lose our focus on Him and give in to compromise and we are often left suffering in the dark. This is why Solomon wrote, "Ponder the path of your feet; then all your ways will be sure. Do not swerve to the right or to the left; turn your foot away from evil. (Proverbs 4:26–27)

Judges 6-7. Have you ever paused to ponder your own circumstances, choices, and character? Ever looked into the mirror and asked yourself, “How could God ever use a loser like you? Why would God use you?” If we are being honest with ourselves, we probably all have had that conversation with the mirror at one time or another. The truth is, however, God sees in you what you could never see in yourself. And believe you me, that is very good news indeed!

When you look into the mirror, you may think you see a failure, a disappointment, a coward, or an underachiever. But what you should know is that your Heavenly Father has a completely different perspective. He sees a person of might and valor; not because of your own innate abilities or your own strengths, but because of what He Himself is able to do in, with, and through you. You may see yourself as some sort of a cracked pot, but God sees a vessel He can use to bring the light of the Gospel into a very dark world.

Revelation 2:8-11. Whether we accept it or not, we are living in a time of growing persecution of God's people all around the world. The voices of the suffering servants of God have been crying out for over a millennia and we are to never forget those who have gone before us and must remember them and pray for them as if we are with them. (Hebrews 13:3) Yet, for many of us, we have never personally known someone who has died because of their trust in Jesus. But over the years countless followers of God have given everything for their faith. Would you? Could there come a time in the not-so-distant future where following Jesus could cost us everything? Only time will tell. But, are we ready? Are we able to? Would we give our full measure of devotion to our God? But this question should never cause us to fear. In fact, Jesus commands us to not fear and be faithful during times of crisis, difficulty, and persecution. Why would He ask this of us? First. As a witness to an unbelieving world that He is not only worth living for but dying for. Second, so that the testing of our faith would prove the genuine character of our fidelity to His kingdom. So, stand fast and fear not!
