With two headliners dropping out in solidarity with striking DC 33 workers, the July 4th concert and fireworks still went on and thousands of people still made it to the parkway to celebrate the holiday.
The city and the union representing the city's largest blue collar union are due back at the bargaining table, but despite the ongoing strike the traditional parade and the “Celebration of Freedom” at Independence Hall were also held, as scheduled,
Philadelphia Police and the Fire Department are warning against the intentional setting of fires at the city's various trash drop off locations amid the DC 33 strike.
The warning comes after authorities say they responded to multiple fires at trash collection sites overnight.
The cause of the fires is still unknown and ATF is helping Philly PD in their investigation.
Police said anyone caught intentionally setting a fire will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
Police are investigating a deadly accident in the city's Mantua section that killed a 47-year-old motorcyclist.
It happened at Belmont and Lancaster Avenue when a Camaro, that had reportedly been stolen, struck the motorcycle.
The driver was taken into custody and faces vehicular homicide charges.
The passenger of the Camaro was taken to the hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.
