Brandon Clift is the son of Bill Clift who has been a lifelong family friend.  Bill was influential in my life to show me that you can take alternative paths or even make your own path in life.  Bill was the only person I knew who was living differently than most.  He was racing sailboats, living as a ski instructor and traveling the World.  In hindsight, his influence was profound and is definitely a reason that I chose to do the things I have done thus far in this life.

His son Brandon and I met a few years ago as he was visiting the USA.  I was impressed with Brandon and spent some time working out together and talking about what he intended to do.  When he came back through the States, I took the opportunity to do a podcast with him.  The conversation was real, raw and honest.  I learned many things that I did not know before and came away with a greater understanding of Brandon, Bill, and myself.  

Through the Mankind Project, Brandon has learned a lot about himself and men in general.  He has continued his work with the Mankind Project and it has influenced his current work to bring awareness to suicide in men.

Mandy DeBuigne and her husband Jeff purchased the iconic fishing lure company called Al's Goldfish earlier this year. I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff while I was up at the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers ALGOW) conference in Bismark this past fall. Immediately I knew we'd have to have Mandy on the show!

Al's was started back in 1952 and Mandy and Jeff are poised to bring it "back" so-to-speak, though it never really went away. They have a goal of introducing it to new audiences across the country. Couple that with their heart for bringing more diversity to the fishing industry and it sounds like an undeniable recipe for success.

The ease of use makes it a popular lure among 1st-time anglers. You need to know nothing more than how to cast and reel to have success landing fish with the Al's Goldfish, which attracts a variety of species in a variety of waters.

In this episode, we talk with Victor Lucia, the founder of the Brooklyn Fishing Club, to talk about the explosive growth and popularity of urban fishing. My son Hayden Rowland is friends with Hunter Jackson. Hayden told me to look into the stuff he is doing and I later met Hunter’s dad and saw how supportive his dad was of his passion. I met Hunter and saw how passionate he was about guiding and recently connected with him and got to catch up with him on what he is up to.

Got some bad news however - just a few days after this podcast I learned that Hunter was in an accident where he was hunting and a gun went off and struck him in the neck. He is in the hospital recovering and has a chance to walk again. He is able to use his right hand and some of his left hand, but he is unable to walk. In this episode, we have Emily and Amanda Gale (The Gale Force Twins) on to discuss their journey of competing in college sports at the University of Miami to going pre-med and walking away from becoming doctors to pursuing fishing full-time down in the Florida Keys.

Turner Rowland is a professional Elk Hunting guide in Bozeman, Montana.  Today, he sits down with us on How2Tuesday to discuss the best ways to call in an Elk.

From Turner’s experience there are basically 2 strategies and possibly a hybrid between the two.  First is the Cow call where you sound like a cow in an attempt to lure the big Bull Elk to you.  Second is the bugle which sounds like a Bull Elk that is threatening to pull other cows away from the dominant Bull.

Both are effective and Turner talks about why he prefers one over the other.

Brenda Maier is the epitome of the outdoorswoman. She hunts, traps, sews with fur, guides for muskies and makes some of the best pheasants I have ever eaten. Her small frame and quiet demeanor would lead you to believe she is not very rough and tumble, but don't be fooled. Her adventures have earned her the title of Adventuress of the Year from Adventuress Magazine.  

She guided me to a nice fall musky and some of her stories would make any evening a pleasure. Her love for the outdoors drives her to try new things and if she sets her mind to it, she will get it done.  She is truly an inspiration, a resource for other outdoor women and after spending a few days with her, I consider her my friend. And not just because she can lead me to big fish.

Elliot Sudal is also known as @acksharks on Instagram. After a video of him catching, handling and releasing a shark on Nantucket went super viral on social media and then to conventional TV, Eliot found himself on over 80 TV shows and other interviews. 

Eliott has used his attention for good to tag sharks for the purposes of scientific research and conservation. 

Along the way, Elliot has also been on reality TV surviving 8 days on a life raft, catching sharks in Louisiana and more. Today he is fishing full time and creating video content for social media and YouTube documenting his tagging activities.
