Every religion including Christianity can be practiced in a prideful attitude of how spiritual we are, but true followers of Jesus know our spirituality is all due to Jesus and what He has done for us, rather than how well we do what He asks.

It is a sin sick world in which we live. We can go through those times offended at God and try to endure in our own strength or we can find our sanctuary in Jesus and rely on His comfort and strength. One way is faith in self. The other is faith in Jesus. We must choose which it will be for us. From what Jesus said in the next verses we can know that John made the right one.

All He needs to do is speak the word. All we need to do is trust Him and believe that His will is best. We humbly understand that we don’t know all that is involved now and in the future. We look to the worthy One who knows all, and in faith we submit all to His will. We know His will is good, for we have seen His love displayed on the cross (Romans 8:32). Like the centurion, we can cause Jesus to marvel at our faith if we will trust Him even when we don’t understand what He has allowed.
