Shanley football is 3-0 and leads the EDC in passing yards, thanks in part to some basketball stars who are back on the football field.

Wide receivers Vuciri Hakim, Kaden Christmann, and Conner Kraft hadn't played football in two years, stepping away to focus on basketball.

"These three basketball kids have really transformed our team this year," said head coach Troy Mattern. "Anytime we lose any kid for whatever reason, we don't like that.

NDSU football's game at Arizona this week is the first FBS matchup for the Bison since upsetting Iowa in 2016. NDSU is 9-3 against FBS opponents and has won six straight against those teams.

They'll face a 1-1 Arizona team that's coming off a loss to Mississippi state. Although the coaches are the only people on the team to face an FBS opponent, they're hoping to pass their experience down to their players.

Matt Cullen has joined the Fargo Force's ownership group, the team announced Wednesday.

Cullen is a Moorhead graduate who played 21 NHL seasons with eight teams and is a three-time Stanley Cup champion. He will assume a minority stake in the organization and will play a major role in shaping team values and player/coach development, the team said in a statement.

The Central Cass Squirrels started the year ranked fourth in 11B after a 9-2 finish last season.

After a convincing 34-14 win over Oak Grove, they were upset by Oakes 14-22 in the second week of play.

A big 49-25 win over Northern Cass put Central Cass back on track Friday.

Despite the an emphatic 56-14 win over Drake in the season opener, the Bison appeared to start the game a bit flat as Drake went 75 yards on their opening drive to score the first touchdown of the day.

Senior quarterback Cade Torgerson zipped a 6-yard touchdown to junior receiver Micah Madyun to lift the University of Jamestown to a dramatic 27-24 victory against Valley City State on Thursday, Aug. 25, in nonconference college football for the "Paint Bucket" trophy at Gordon Hansen Field.

"It's pretty awesome," Jimmies head coach Brian Mistro said.

Madyun's TD catch came after VCSU kicker Masila Siua drilled a 36-yard field goal to give the Vikings a 24-21 lead on the first possession of overtime before the Jimmies had their chance to answer.

Five years ago this week, Tom Hoge was back in town winning the Bobcat Open at Fargo Country Club.

Hoge had missed out on the FedEx Cup Playoffs and was trying to get his game back in form.

Fast forward to today and Hoge is preparing for the richest golf tournament he's ever played in, the Tour Championship.

Fargo South has been one of the more dominant football programs in North Dakota over the years, holding more football state titles than any other school.

However, South has not reached the semifinals in seven seasons, but they are looking to start an upward trend this season.

"South football has been a huge name for a lot of years and to be a part of it, it's special," said junior quarterback Kolby Nissen.
