Life is coming at Karter Menz pretty fast these days.

"I always wanted to play college football but I never imagined I could go that high. The last few months I started to believe that I could." Menz said.

What's happened over the last few months?

Nearly every big-name Division I football school in the Midwest has contacted Menz, from North Dakota State to Minnesota to Nebraska.

It was heartbreak in the matter of less than a second.

Moorhead senior hurdler John Jenkins was confident he'd be able to punch a state ticket in the Section 8AAA Track and Field Championships. He was competing in the 110 meter and 300 meter hurdle races.

He finished third in both by a combined .06 seconds.

Those were his two main races, but he still had one more event left. Jenkins was going to run the anchor leg for the 4x400 meter relay team.

The Moorhead Spuds are heading back to the Minnesota boy's Class A, Section 8 finals.

The Spuds boys lacrosse team defeated Elk River 10-4 in a section semifinal on Tuesday, June 7, at Jim Gotta Stadium.

Moorhead is returning to the section finals in back to back years. The Spuds won the 2021 section championship with a 10-6 win over Buffalo.

Before Tuesday's game, Spuds head coach Andrew Law said that winning faceoffs was the key to winning the game, and he was enthused that his team came through on his hopes.

North Dakota State track has grown accustomed to sending athletes to the NCAA Championships and coming home with hardware.

Starting with Laura Hermanson in 2009 to Akealy Moton last year, the Bison have racked up All-American honors.

This year though, they will make history with perhaps the most unlikely entrant to the championships.

At long last, the Twins have reached their much-needed off day.

But instead of stumbling into it, as you could imagine a team whose depth has been stretched thin and was playing in its 18th game in 17 days might, the Twins finished the run with an 8-6 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday afternoon at the Rogers Centre.

They finished the 17 days by taking two of three games from a good Toronto team after dropping four of five games in Detroit, their offense silenced in the middle of that series.

Experience in the state tournament helped Lamoure-Litchville-Marion defeat Surrey 11-1 in the 2022 ND Class B State Tournament on Thursday.

L-L-M head coach Derold Haugen said having been through the tournament grind before helped his team prepare for this year's tournament.

"We have been here before," Haugen said, "We kind of know that we got to do the little things, play good defense, and get good pitching. We did that and eventually we got the bats."

They waited 363 days for a little redemption, but the wait was worth it.

The Kindred boys golf team rolled to another Class B boys golf state championship on Wednesday, going +69 for the tournament. Oak Grove and Central Cass finished in a tie for second at +112.

Beulah's Champ Hettich turn in a three-over performance in his 36 holes to take the individual medal. Kindred's Paul Olson finished second at eight-over.

After spending five months in the transfer portal, former UND running back, Otis Weah, announced he's transferring to Missouri State.

The running back opted to leave UND in late November after a rocky fall that featured some off the field issues.

Weah lead the Fighting Hawks with 129 carries for 818 rushing yards last season. UND will play the Bears on Oct. 1.

Sunday morning, the Twins had two healthy shortstops on their roster. There was the present star, Carlos Correa, and the future, Royce Lewis, whom the Twins also hope turns into a star.

By Monday afternoon, they had none.

Lewis, who was recalled on Sunday from Triple-A, ran into the outfield wall making a play in center field hours later and suffered what the Twins are calling a bone bruise in his right knee, which landed him on the injured list. Things went from bad to worse on Monday for the Twins when Correa tested positive for COVID-19, something which manager Rocco Baldelli found out about during the Twins' 7-5 loss to the Tigers on Monday afternoon at Comerica Park.

It is already time to start handing out state championship trophies in North Dakota.

The 2022 State Track and Field meet kicked off on Thursday in Bismarck. 13 individual champions were crowned on day one of the meet.

In the team standings, Kindred leads in Class B boys, while Des Lacs-Burlington is in first for the Class B girls. Bismarck Century leads for the Class A boys and girls, respectively.
